Knights of Columbus Mission
Statement: To provide a means by
which Catholic Men could support the
Catholic Church, To provide Financial
Protection to Protect their Families and To
engage in works of Charity to Benefit the
Less Fortunate.
Once upon a time there was a man named Benny. Benny was a simple man with simple tallents and simple desires. He was a quiet fellow who
loved to walk the beach when he had some time to spare. He was the kind of guy you wouldn't mind having a drink with, but anything more might
be tedious. One day, as Benny was walking the beach, he stumbled over a small black jar shaped object. Benny curiously picked it up and began to
brush off the sand. Woosh. Benny winced as sand flew into his eyes, blinding him temporarily. By the time he opened his eyes, a shadow had
been cast over him. "I AM KHALROG, GENIE OF THE URN, YOU HAVE AWOKEN ME FROM MY SLUMBER. WHAT IS YOUR ONE
TRUE DESIRE?" the genie bellowed. Stunned, Benny could hardly believe what he was seeing. Benny thought for a moment as he regained his
senses. Then he began to speak, "Well, I've always wanted a magnificent beard. I've always had a hard time with the ladies and I hear great beards
are a wonderful attraction." "VERY WELL," replied the genie, "YOU MAY HAVE YOUR BEARD. HOWEVER, I MUST WARN YOU THAT
THIS BEARD COMES AT A PRICE: YOU MUST NEVER SHAVE IT OFF." Benny thought for a moment, then agreed to the genie's
conditions. A brilliant beard protruded from Benny's chin and grew and grew until finally it reached his belly. This was fantastic! Surely he would
be a ladies' man now! Years passed by as Benny became an icon of beard lovers everywhere. He won contest after contest. Then one day, he met
the woman of his dreams. They went on several dates together before she revealed to him that she would love nothing else than to see him without
his beard. Benny loved his beard, but he loved this woman much more. Reluctantly, he agreed to shave it off. The next morning, Benny grabbed
his razor and started to shave his beard. POOF! Suddenly, Benny was teleported into a round, black room! "Egad!" Benny cried. "Where am I!?"
"YOU HAVE DISOBEYED THE ONE RULE, BENNY," a voice behind him roared. Benny stammered, "But I... I... it's only a beard! Why are
you doing this to me?" The genie replied, "I AM THE GENIE OF THE URN, BENNY. I HAVE RULES. WHEN THOSE RULES ARE
BROKEN, YOU MUST BE PUNISHED." "So... so... what's my... my punishment then?" Benny stuttered. "YOU WILL REMAIN HERE IN MY
URN FOR ALL ETERNITY AND THE WORLD WILL KNOW YOUR FAULTS." the genie exclaimed. And from that day forth, Benny has
taught all Benny's everywhere the most important lesson of all: A Benny shaved is a Benny urned.

Grand Knights Report …
Well, I think its safe to say Summer is finally here. I know my family is anxious
for school to be out and summer break to start!
It was a pleasure to hand out our Scholarships at the annual Holmen High
School banquet on May 25th. Our Scholarship winners were Taylor Greenwold-
Don Pedretti ($400.00), Kate Balder-Monsignor Delbert Malin ($500), and Mackenzie Schmit-
Father John Rossiter ($500.00). It was amazing to hear how much generosity there is within
our community. Local money given away to HHS Seniors totaled $400,000, and total money
given out hit $1,300,000!
We’ll have a bit of a lull while we enjoy summer and travel, and start prepping for our 30th
Anniversary as a council. We decided we’d give a it a go at doing an old fashioned picnic to
celebrate our accomplishments over the past 30 years. It will be falling on Sunday, July 17th
from 1pm to 5pm. We are extending an invitation to our Parish family to help celebrate with
us. So if you are around, stop by and have a meal and play some games over at the Halfway
Creek Shelter, next to the band shell. As a bonus, the Band Shell will be playing music
starting at 5:00 pm.
That will be a busy weekend, as we also have been invited to help out with Freedom Fest.
They asked us to also help out on Friday night for a few hours with a new family oriented
venue, free to all. So we’ll be asking for volunteers for both Friday and Saturday nights (July
15th and 16th).
Kornfest Fun Run and our Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast will be coming up fast in August,
scheduled for August 20th and 21st. Gary, Pete, and myself are seriously looking for co-
chairs to help with these events. Yes-these are a lot of work, but the work is much easier
when you can spread it out with several people. Please, please consider
stepping up and helping to keep these fundraisers going into the future.
These are big fundraisers for our Council.
As always, thank you all for your generosity and support for all that
represents the Knight of Columbus and may we continue to strive to
support our community, our faith and our fraternity through out this Year
of Mercy and our 30th year as a council.
Vivat Jesus!

A Founding Notion: Protecting the
Breadwinner’s Income
While jobs may be safer in 2016, accidents, injuries,
and illnesses that can impact your ability to work still
happen. Most, in fact, do not happen on the jobsite or
place of employment. Did you know that a 2011 study
revealed that more than 95 percent of the long-term
disability claims on file were not work related?
The Knights have always sought to protect members’
families from the “loss” of a breadwinner. I’m sure you know all about Father
McGivney’s vision for our insurance program. But you may not know that Father
McGivney also wanted to find a way to help members who couldn’t work because of an
illness. After all, the “loss” of the breadwinner does not have to mean that person’s death;
it can also mean the loss of the breadwinner’s income.
Consider that loss for a moment. How would your family fare if a source of income
suddenly stopped? Could a dual-income family manage on one income stream? What
about young families with a working father and a mother who cares for the children?
What if his income halted due to an accident or illness?
I’ve heard some people say they have coverage at work, but too many aren’t sure what
this coverage entails, how much income it would provide or for how long. Having this
protection counts for something, certainly, but it isn’t “yours”; it’s provided by the
company for which you work at their discretion. It could be eliminated tomorrow.
That’s where a personally-owned disability income insurance product, like Income
Armor, comes into play. It can offer valuable income replacement in the event of an
injury or illness.. If you have a job, you must know about this coverage.

COUNCIL #9385 KNIGHT AND FAMILY OF THE MONTH
MAY 2016
Sir Danny Miles, wife Anita, and children
Johannes and Franziska are the May Family of
the Month. Sir Danny, with help and support from
his family, managed our contribution to the annual
State KC Charity Raffle. They worked many hours in
preparation and mailing of the raffle tickets, and
then processing the returned entries and donations,
leading the another successful raffle year. Thank
you and congratulations Sir Danny, Anita, Johannes
and Franziska!
Our council’s grateful thanks to Sir Knights Gregg Randall, Todd
Knutson, and Mike Bruha for another successful Tootsie Roll
Drive! For their many hours of
telephoning for volunteers,
event preparation, and
handing out tootsie rolls,
they are our Knights for
May. Well done Sirs Gregg,
Todd, and Michael!

up the good work!”

Summer is here and Holmen Kornfest is right
around the corner!
Summer is upon us, which also means the planning and preparation
for Holmen Kornfest is under way. Gary and Pete are already
moving on the Fun Run and I have started on the Biscuits and
Gravy Breakfast. Holmen Kornfest is August 20th and 21st this
year.
We are always looking for some worthy knights to step up and
become chairs for these much needed events. We are looking
forward to hearing from you!
As always, we are looking for new ideas to improve our
fundraisers, so if any of you have any ideas or suggestions , please
let me know ([email protected] or 608-769-2761(Cell).
Thanks for all of your support,
Grand Knight (and Breakfast Coordinator)

DID YOU KNOW ….Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J.
McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven
and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on
March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a
fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding
principles of charity, unity and fraternity.
The Knights was formed to render financial aid to members and their
families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy
members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted
among members and their families through educational, charitable,
religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.
The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J.
McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican,
brought about what has become the world's foremost Catholic fraternal
benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security
and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care
programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in
communities.
The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council
to more than 15,100 councils and 1.9 million members throughout the
United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican
Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba,
Guatemala, Guam, Saipan, Lithuania, Ukraine, and South Korea.
Our Holmen Knights Council was chartered on July 13, 1986. We will be
celebrating with a picnic at he Holmen Halfway Creek Shelter on Sunday,
July 17 from 1—5. Everyone is welcome !
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY !

JUNE 2016 PAGE 7
Faithful Friar’s Report …. Dear Sir Brother Knights, It is hard to
believe we are once again entering into the summer months. These
months bring to us many days of sun and relaxation. Of coarse there
are those days when we have to weather the high humidity and the
storms. We like to think that we can control the weather, but alas the
weather, as part of God's created nature cannot be controlled. As we
look at many things going on within the world, society seems to forget the truths
of God's natural law. We tend to forget we are creatures created in the image
and likeness of God. Too many today are trying to create God in man's image or disregarding
God totally. I enjoy teaching the 1st story of creation, in which God takes chaos , gives it
structure and order , and from it comes life. As we look around at the many who are trying to
disassemble God's structure within life we see chaos returning into the world. As Adam and
Eve in the Garden first disregarded God's commands bringing that chaos back onto the world.
It was once again the power of God's mercy, through the death of his Son, that once again
restored the structure and the order giving to us once again life. In this Year of Mercy ,during
these Summer months, let us not relax too much and forget to put in a little extra prayer,
calling upon God's Mercy to strengthen and guide us through these “chaotic” times so more
will recognize the order of God's love which gives life !!!!!!
God Bless,
SK Msgr. Steven Kachel
FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR’S REPORT ….This will be the last newsletter until around
September 1. If something comes up we will of course contact you. At our last meeting we
approved the list of new officers and voted on them. Thank you to all the new officers. The
dinner went well and our Guest Speaker was Susan Taylor who gave a very good talk about the
job of a financial coach and the interaction with clients. Our new Schedule for 2016 and 2017 will
start in September. I will be working on a couple of things over the summer. For those who are following my
personal movie selections, well summer time is a time for being out and about, so there will only be a couple
of rain day movies, but for sure I will be watching around June 6 in the morning. The Longest Day, and Is Paris Burning. I
hope all of you have a great and safe summer.
Regards,
Richard Lepsch.
