The Book Stacksection 1:50 hollie sinapril 1, 2015

Situated close by the busy street of St. Clair Avenue West, the Book Stack library is here to provide a comfortable space of gather-ing and conversation. The hearth placed in the core of the library acts as a “community family room” draws in visitors and creates a warm ambience throughout the whole building.

The library is organized with the main collection stored tucked away in the floor to ceiling shelving on the left while the more open spaces on the right are occupied with work tables, a comput-er lab and large seating areas for groups to sit together. The fireplace draws users from both sides of the library to interact with one another and make the overall experience intimate and inviting.

The Snow Hut aims to create an inviting space in cold climate regions to draw in wanderers. Large concrete panels leaning on one another create a teepee shaped building with a bonfire type setting in the center. The pitch of the hut is open as a skylight to allow natural light seep in as well as the windows with shutters inbetween the concrete panels. With those elements, the Snow Hut is made to be a cozy shelter from the harsh weather conditions of Alaska.

The main idea was to stack the units in a way where light wells would be created through the gaps and the way the units intersect with each other. With the site sloping upwards to the west and the complicated configuration of units, circulation also became key. In order to conserve space, the slope was used as the main means of egress. ramps were built to create and conjoin walkways branching off from other units.

re: Configure is a metal module that gives a fresh look to the tradi-tional marketplace often found in European and Asian countries. With its irregular pentagonal shape, the modules can be organized to fit any type of event space making it adaptable to any given circum-stance.

The general idea for the shape was to mimic the natural slopes and hills found towards the grand river as well as the arch created from the trees above the pathway. Evolving from creating the slope with the building to mounding dirt over the roof, the final concept was to use a green roof where people can use the green space while providing eco-friendly benefits towards the structure.

The site is situated between two nature pathways alongside the Grand River at Cambridge, Ontario. The driveway on the left of the studio opens out to Grand Avenue South.

arts unionville graduates art show 2014

I love experimenting with different mediums such as pen and ink, acryl-ic, pastel, charcoal and more. My grade 12 painting series (the 4 canvases on the top) experiments with newspaper collaging to illustrate the theme of rebirth and the influence of social media. Painting is a way for me to express my thoughts and is something I enjoy to do on my spare time.
