Hollie Andrews Loughborough University I'm Holly Andrews from Loughborough University and I specialise in woven textiles. The course itself is just titled textiles innovation and design and then you choose your specialism from three different pathways, so I chose woven textiles. For my collection I looked at things that you see in everyday life and I manipulated using Photoshop them in a way to make them into works of art that you wouldn't necessarily know was the original thing that it started off as. I used a lot of architecture for inspiration, but not obvious architecture! Then I merged it with other layers on Photoshop, to create the abstract lines in my work to then produce them into my own designs. My inspiration comes from our everyday surroundings but mainly architecture and abstract a geometrics. For my colour schemes and palettes I started off at looking at Mondrian and very simple primary colours that are classic and then I developed them from there through my photography. I wanted to focus on bright colours, but still have the black, whites and greys to still soften it. The dyeing technique that I used is called ikat and it’s a lot of dip dyeing, so you dye a lot of different areas of the warps. It involved using a lot of elastic bands and dyeing different sections to get the variation through the colour. I love the design industry. I'd like to be somewhere where I can be creative! I'm not too specific about what I'm going to do just as long as I'm working in design and making works of artwhether it's textiles or fashion I'm quite open minded.

I'm Holly Andrews from Loughborough University and I specialise in woven textiles.

I'm not too specific about what I'm going to do just as long as I'm working in design and making works of art… whether it's textiles or fashion I'm quite open minded.
