ECONOMICS (Micro Chap- 1,2,3,4,5 & 10)

Do the following questions in the notebook.

1. In an underdeveloped economy why is there the need of efficient utilization of resources? 2. A farmer is getting more profit in producing opium than wheat. In the situation of famine which crop

should be produced? 3. Why has power crisis increased in India? 4. According to the law of demand, by increasing the price of a good its demand decreases but in the

case of petrol, its demand is increasing with increase in price .Why? Explain. 5. How can the productivity of Human resources be increased? 6. What efforts should be made in an economy for the continuous use of exhaustible natural resources in

production? 7. How is the law of diminishing marginal utility applied with regard to education/ knowledge? 8. The demand for electricity is increasing but due to scarcity of resources its supply cannot be

increased. Give any two measures to decrease the demand for electricity . 9. Even though the price of petrol is very high , its demand is very high. How can the demand for petrol

be decreased? 10. What is the opportunity cost of an input which has no alternative use? 11. Utility is directly linked with the usefulness of a commodity. Is it true or false? Give reason. 12. Trendz produces both jeans and shirts .How will an increase in the price of jeans affect the supply

curve of shirts ? 13. All points below the budget line show the various possible bundles which cost exactly equal to

consumer’s income. Is it right or wrong? 14. If Ram is offered Ice Cream free of cost , how much Ice Cream will he consume? 15. What happens to the budget set if both the prices as well as the income doubled? 16. A consumer consumes only two goods X and Y. At a consumption level of these two goods, he finds

that the ratio of marginal utility of price in case of X is higher than in case of Y. Explain the reaction of the consumer.

17. Does a fall in income have the same effect on the demand for a given commodity? 18. There is train and bus service between New Delhi and Jaipur. Suppose that the train fare between the

two cities comes down, how will this affect demand curve for bus travel between the two cities? 19. If a good can be used for many purposes, the demand for it will be elastic. Why? 20. If prices of salt and cigarettes, both rises by 10% , will the quantity demanded of both goods be

affected in an equal manner? 21. Law of diminishing marginal utility will operate even if consumption takes place at intervals. Defend

or refute. 22. There are three different supply curves passing through the origin. A curve makes an angle of 600.

Curve B makes an angle of 450 and curve C makes an angle of 300. What will be the price elasticity of curve A, B and C?

23. Answer all the questions in terms of shifts in or movements along the demand and supply curves: (a) In 2001, the Supreme Court of India banned smoking in public places. How is this likely to affect the average price of cigarettes and the quantity sold? (b) New discoveries of oil reduce the price of petrol and diesel. Consider their effects on the market for new cars. (c) New environmental regulations require the drug industry to use a more environment friendly technology whose running cost is higher but which discharges less chemicals than before. How would it affect the price of drug ? (d) A new steel plant comes up in Jharkhand. People who were previously unemployed in the area are now employed. How will this affect the demand for colour T.V. and Black and White T.V. in the region?

Page 4: Holiday Homework, Summer- 2016 - …shirdisaipublicschool.com/pdf/Summer_holiday_hmwrk_16-17/Class XII... · The younger generation ... Write an article in about 550-600 words on

(e) In order to encourage tourism in Goa, the Government of India suggests Indian Airlines to reduce air fare to Goa from the four major cities of Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi. If the Indian Airlines reduces the fare to Goa, how will this affect the market demand curve for air travel to Goa?

24. Indicate whether the following will lead to extension, contraction, increase or decrease in supply curve: (a) installation of new machinery resulting in fall of cost of production. (b) A firm deciding to maximize sales instead of profits. (c) Imposition of excise duty on production of certain commodity.

25. Why have the problem of power and electricity in India increased? 26. Demand for certain socially undesirable products like tobacco & liquor is increasing day by day

which is a great concern for the health of the people. How can government bring down its consumption?

27. Suppose a consumer’s preferences are monotonic. What can you say about his preference ranking over the bundles (10,10),(10,9) and (9,9)?

28. Due to improvement in the technology the marginal cost of production goes down. How will this affect the supply curve of the commodity ?

29. Many foreign companies like Wal –Mart are coming to India with a profit motive and targeting richer section of our economy by producing goods for them. Which economic value is overlooked by them?

30. Small scale industries use more labour instead of machinery. Highlight the values they promote.

1. Write a program to display the sum of the series: 1 + x3/3! + x

5/5 + x

7/ 7! + …….

2. Write a function in C++ to print the sum of all the non-negative elements present on both the diagonals

of a two dimensional array passed as the argument to the function.

3. Create an array of structures “Students” which stores details of 7 students (rollno, name, marks in three

subjects). Write a program to create such an array and print out a list of students who have failed in

more than one subject. Define the fail criteria as average of marks in all three subjects is less than 40%.

4. Write the definition of a class Photo in C++ with following description:

Private Members

– Pno //Data member for Photo Number (an integer)

– Category //Data member for Photo Category (a string)

– Exhibit //Data member for Exhibition Gallery (a string)

– FixExhibit //A member function to assign Exhibition Gallery as per Category as shown in the

following table

Public Members

– Register() //A function to allow user to enter values

//Pno, Category and call FixExhibit() function

– ViewAll() //A function to display all the data members

5. Define a class CONTEST in C++ with the following description :

Private Data Members Eventno integer Description char(30) Score integer qualified char Public Member functions ● A constructor to assign initial values Eventno as 11, Description as ‘‘School level’’, Score as 100, qualified as ‘N’. ● Input() – To take the input for Eventno, description and score. ● Award (int cutoffscore) – To assign qualified as ‘Y’, if score is more than the cutoffscore that is passed as argument to the function, else assign qualified as ‘N’. ● Displaydata() – to display all data members.

6. Write a function to modify any given string such that the single or multiple blanks present in it are filled

by the character ‘@’. The function should return the modified string. e.g. My @ name @ is@.

7. Write a function check() to check if the passed array of 10 integers is sorted or not. The function should

return 1 if arranged in ascending order, -1 if arranged in descending order, 0 if it is not sorted. Take into

account error handling when a float value is entered.

8. Write a program to create a file “Text1.txt” and enter four lines of text in it. The file should stop taking

input after 4 lines of text.

9. Write a program to create a file “Para.txt”. Input some words in the file. Then write a function to count

the number of words present in “Para.txt”. Assume that each word is separated by a single blank/space

character and no blanks/spaces in the beginning and end of the file.

10. Write a function in C++ to count the number of "Me" or "My" words present in the text file

"DIARY.TXT". If the file "DIARY.TXT" content is as follows:
