Cheruvathur Chakutty Thampi

International entrepreneur Cheruvathur Chakutty Thampi, is the founder, Chairman and Managing Director for Holiday Group and its subsidiaries. The group has over 2,000 plus employees across Middle East, India and Europe.

Born in the beautiful state of Kerala, India, in 1956, Mr. Thampi is an industrious, extraordinarily dynamic, self-made businessman. His passion for innovation & entrepreneurial ideas led him to explore several businesses opportunities, which led to carve out a niche & lucrative business empire.

With a combined asset value in excess of $1bn, the Holiday Group has grown over the past 30 years into major international companies with the chairman taking a hands-on approach and working relentlessly at the helm.

In 1980’s, he established his fi rst major endeavor in United Arab Emirates where he founded Holiday Marine Services, that was involved in Ship chandelling business, which subsequently diversifi ed into Duty Free, Liquor and Hydrocarbon trading business. The business success was attributed to the quality of products and service offered, whilst providing the ease of doing business, which made Mr. Thampi led in a specialized & competitive market.

In early part of the Millennium, Mr. Thampi ventured into the Hospitality business by opening Nalukettu Restaurant, a Keralite Themed Restaurant, which was one of its kinds at the time. In the latter years, the group ventured into Hotels and Resorts, which offers state of the art guest experience.

Mr. Thampi, a passionate philanthropist, has established “Cheruvathur Foundation” that owns and manages Thejus Engineering College, Kerala, India. The foundation provides moral and fi nancial support to the unprivileged children and physically challenged individuals.

Philip Philips, Chief Executive Offi cer, Holiday Group

Philip Philips, who joined Holiday Group in 2008, has diligently contributed in formulating the Holiday Group’s identity, revamping and restructuring the organization and setting up an IT savvy infrastructure. His enthusiasm and innovative management skills has facilitated the diversifi cation into lucrative business opportunities in Trading business, storage of Hydrocarbons and pioneered the group into Construction business.

Philip is a strategic thinker coupled with excellent execution skills thriving to manage multi- disciplined businesses and has been successful in taking a mature business to new heights. Philip has paved way into new business development, that facilitated growth.

Philip started off as an enthusiastic engineer working for Schneider Electric Switchgear franchise, where he learned the mechanics of manufacturing and assembly units, which helped in grooming a career. Subsequently he was deployed by MK Electric to manage distribution network in Middle East & Africa. As MK Electric, was acquired by Honeywell, Philip was part of integration team. He project managed several projects, and was instrumental in several product development from cradle to market. Later he was head hunted by Thomas & Betts (presently ABB) where he managed ELV business unit.

Philip, is also responsible for the Project and its budget of new ventures, which includes a 5 Star Hotel, Multi- storied High Rise Residential Developments and 117 MT Hydrocarbon storage tank to name a few major once.

Philip holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Pune University and double Masters post gratuate degree in Marketing and Finance from Southern New Hampshire University, USA.

Saidalavi, Group Finance Controller, Holiday Group

Saidalavi N.P has contributed in setting up a stronger fi nancial structure, which helped in better planning and effi cient cash fl ow of the group companies.

Saidalavi completed his education in Accounts and Finance in India with distinction and started his career as a Government of Kerala, India bureaucrat.

Subsequently he re-located to Dubai, where he joined Ramee Group and worked up the ranks to become the Group Financial Controller. During his decade long tenure in Ramee Group, he was responsible for managing the group fi nances. He has handles various portfolios alongside core Finance and Accounting.

Saidalavi also holds a Master’s degree in Commerce from Periyar University and an Arts degree from Calicut University.

Alison James, General Manager Retail UAE

Alison James has more than 20 years’ experience in retail. With a career founded in her home town of Cambridge, England she initially began in Supermarket retail and after a secondment working in the wine and spirit department, she quickly discovered a passion for wine and spirits.

To gain further knowledge and experience Alison found a new role working with Wine Rack as part of the Thresher Group. This would prove to be Alison’s career for the following 12 Years. During this time Alison held various roles across multiple brands within the Thresher Group including, Bottoms Up, Wine Rack, Threshers and Drinks Cabin.

Alison has completed the WSET Higher and Advanced certifi cates which are now known as WSET level 3. She continues a lifelong passion to learn about wines and spirits.

In 2009 she was recruited by Spinneys Abu Dhabi LLC for a position as Retail Channel Manager and later transferred to their sister company MMI Dubai as Head of Retail. During this time she opened fi ve new stores across the UAE and was the project lead for the Al Hamra Cellar refurbishment project. During her tenure she successfully delivered double digit profi t growth for every year of her fi ve years with Spinneys and MMI.

Sai has been instrumental in strategically developing the Eurostar cellar liquor business in Abu Dhabi as a whole and increasing sales & distribution in a highly competitive market capitalizing business opportunities. He is commercially savvy & worldly-yet principled and a wishes to do the right thing with Integrity but feet on the ground, when it comes to business. Sai believes that conducting business should be enjoyable & all about people & relationships, as most of his clients & business partners become friends eventually due to his contagious endearing approach. He has an eye for the gap in the market & leads by example with a passion for excellence combined with Integrity & reliability. Those core values have been the canvas for the success of the business & as an individual in his career.

He has a thorough knowledge of current hotel Food & Beverage management techniques and HORECA segment and started his accolades during his early years 1998 as a Key Account manager with Gray Mackenzie & Partners, (then part of Inchcape group PLC) being awarded the Heineken star performer award in the same year in recognition of outstanding sales combined with excellence in customer service. With 16 years of vast experience in Alcohol beverages in the gulf, he has played a key interface role as distributor manager in Abu Dhabi during territory alignment of distributors for Heineken brands, especially in the year 2005 during his tenure with Sirocco FZ co.

He was also recognized for creativity to overcome ATL (above the line) visibility restrictions for the on premise & implemented life-size in outlet branding for power brands from Heineken & Diageo during his tenure with Gray Mackenzie & Partners which went on to become shared best practice within the region between ADMMI/MMI/BMMI/OUA. The highlight of his career was positioning Gray Mackenzie & partners for marketing excellence award in the MENA region twice in a row awarded by DIAGEO in the year 2000- 2001 for the Johnny Walker “Keep walking Campaign” served as brand ambassador amongst other key achievements.

Sai is people oriented and a natural team player with leadership skills in managing diverse cultural & ethnic background. Has a proven track record of building successful business plans and developing strategic partnerships across key stake holders & partners-Managing a portfolio of global brands with multi-national organizations such as Sirocco FZ Co - (an OPCO of HEINEKEN Gulf) & creating a profi table change by achieving record breaking sales of over 48 KHL of beer with a turnover of over AED 100 Million per annum penetrating market share from 63% to 70% in Dubai & Northern Emirates On trade during 2007-2012.
