The Jaeger-LeCoultre Watch Co. of Switzerland was established in Le Sentier, Valee de Joux in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre. After 175 years it is still one of the most important manufacturers of ebauches (raw movements), and has supplied mechanisms to almost all the notable producers of luxury watches, including Vacheron & Constantin and Patek Philippe.
Merging with the Alsatian watch factory of Edmond Jaeger in 1925, the name Jaeger LeCoultre soon appeared on wristwatch dials. They are a watch collector’s watch and rank as investment-grade timepieces.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following men’s vintage timepiece from the firm, a 14kt Solid Yellow Gold Tank form model that dates to the early 1940s (ca 1940 – 1942). Given its faceted hooded lugs this was a hard watch to photograph but I can assure you it is in remarkable condition – perhaps even nicer than my pictures illustrate.
Quadruple-signed for LeCoultre, it measures 36mm end to end and 20mm in width (22mm with signed Jaeger-LeCoultre crown). This works out to be just over 1-3/8 inches long by ¾ of an inch wide, not counting the winding crown but appears larger in person given its narrow bezel framing. My watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 17 jewel, manual wind LeCoultre mechanism to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory color, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition – professionally restored to its correct status. It features a 60 minute outer track, raised gold numerals, original gold Baton-style hands and a recessed, rectangular seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and ‘sweep’ seconds hand. Signed LeCoultre below the 12 and Switzerland at the base of the dial, beneath the bezel.
The solid glass crystal is in mint condition. The LeCoultre-signed two-piece case is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent condition – nicely faceted on the hooded lugs. The matching yellow gold finished winding crown is signed “JL” for Jaeger-LeCoultre and is in excellent condition, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent to mint shape, free of any wear or engravings and with a fine brushed, satin finish. Taking a look inside I find an original and high-grade mechanism signed LeCoultre Co., Swiss – Seventeen 17 Jewels, VXN with serial number #329,924, dating it to the early 1940s (ca 1940 to 1942). The inside case lid is stamped CASED & TIMED IN U.S.A BY LECOULTRE – 14 KARAT

Founded by Swiss immigrant Albert Wittnauer in New York City, the Wittnauer Watch Company. became an official business in 1880, when the brand was “officially” introduced. Albert, along with his brother Louis (and later Emile) imported complete watches or just mechanisms from its Geneva, Switzerland factory. In 1889 the company ran its very first advertisement. Appearing in the twentieth anniversary issue of the Jewelers’ Weekly, the ad notes that the company sold both “plain and complicated” watches, suggesting that it was a source for chronographs and repeating watches.
By the 20th century they were firmly established as providing watches, chronometers and military timing devices to the military, famed early explorers and the general public, and are on record for producing the first waterproof watch called the “All Proof” in 1918. Long associated with the Longines Watch Co. via a US partnership the firm is now owned by Bulova, once a great competitor.
I am happy to offer for sale the following men’s timepiece from Wittnauer, an early 1950s model (No. 1058) with a Guilloche dial and Rope bezel – both unique details. This 10kt White Gold filled watch is quadruple-signed for Wittnauer, on the dial, winding crown, case and mechanism.
It measures 37mm lug tip to lug tip and 32.5mm in width (34.5mm with Wittnauer crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-1/2 inches long by just over 1-1/4 inches wide, not including the winding crown. It has been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David and its higher grade 17 jewel, manual wind Wittnauer 76/3 caliber “Revue” mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored to its correct status in the recent past. It has a finely engraved “Guilloche” design that has a “sunburst” effect in person, very nice. Features include raised silver hour markers, original silver steel Baton-style hands and a recessed sub-seconds dial with engine-turned background and ‘sweep’ silver steel seconds hand. Signed WITTNAUER below the 12 and SWISS MADE at the base of the dial.
The gently domed hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent condition and without flaw. The Longines-Wittnauer signed case is 10 Karat White Gold filled and in excellent condition – complete with fancy “ROPE” bezel. The original winding crown is a matching white gold color and signed with the Wittnauer trademark. It

is in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent shape with no wear or personal engravings, stamped 10k Gold Filled at the edge. Inside I find a clean and high quality mechanism that is signed Wittnauer Watch Co. Inc., Seventeen 17 Jewels, [Caliber] 76/3 Revue, Swiss – AXA. The inside case lid is signed [Model] 1058 - Longines Wittnauer Watch Co. Inc. - Wittnauer, New York - Geneva – 10k Gold Filled with case reference number below.
This cleaned, oiled and regulated beauty winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new & high quality 18mm deBeer hand crafted lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching color buckle so you’re all set. All in all a striking, mid century Retro Modern dress watch that was quite adventurous for its time.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Long before the Bulova Watch Company would become famous the world over, long before there was a “Bulova Observatory” on top of a Fifth Avenue skyscraper, the company existed as a small jewelry store on Maiden Lane in New York City, owned and operated by Joseph Bulova. A young shop assistant named John Ballard convinced Joseph to start selling watches directly to other retailers, leading to the establishment of watch factories in Switzerland and the U.S.A. The rest of course is watch history, with Bulova being one of the most recognized names in the field.
I am pleased to present a very handsome vintage men’s timepiece from the Bulova firm, the Senator model that dates to 1940. This is the third and final Senator model I’m listing this summer – a 10K Rolled Gold Plated example that follows two previous, solid gold models. I’ve always liked the shell lugs on this model, a case design that was shared by the Bulova “Spencer” as well.
Triple-signed, this American-made model measures 34mm end to end and 21.5mm in width (23mm with original unmarked crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-3/8 inches long by 7/8 of an inch in width, not including the crown – a smaller gent’s size by today’s standards but very normal in the 1940s. My Bulova-trained watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 17 jewel, manual wind 8AH caliber mechanism to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory colored, matte enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, a few small specks of age but showing nicely as you can see. It features a 60 minute outer track border, raised gold numerals, gold metal Leaf-style hands and a recessed sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and ‘sweep’ gold seconds hand. It is signed

BULOVA below the 12.
The solid glass, curved crystal is in mint condition. The 10kt Rolled Yellow Gold Plated case (with stainless steel back) is in excellent condition, complete with sculpted “SHELL” lugs that make the piece. The winding crown is unmarked but I can assure you it is the original. It is in great shape and it winds and sets smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the stainless back lid is in excellent shape with no wear or inscriptions. It is stamped BULOVA with case reference number as well. Inside is a clean, fully serviced Bulova mechanism, signed Bulova Watch Co., Swiss – Seventeen 17 Jewels [Caliber] 8AE. There is also a Omega symbol (that’s what it looks like) date code indicating a 1940 production date. The inside of the case lid is signed Bulova – 10k Rolled Gold Plate Bezel, Stainless Back – New York.
This Senator model has been fully serviced by a Bulova-trained watchmaker to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new and high quality men’s length 14mm alligator (grain) calf leather strap with matching gold color buckle. All in all a beautifully designed Art Deco Bulova model that’s ready to wear – thanks for dropping by!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Not until the First World War would the wristwatch be considered an everyday necessity for the gentleman, although their use by troops is noted during the Boer War, albeit limited. Prior to the Great War, watches were considered “women’s jewelry” and too effeminate for the discerning man. WWI would change this, putting the watch on the wrists of soldiers fighting in the trenches of Europe, this event having repercussions once the soldier returned home.
As one 1919 advertisement promoting wristwatches for gentlemen states, such devices were “manly watches for manly men – any man so out of date as to consider the wristwatch effeminate need only learn the kind of men who use them…the fighting men, the soldiers in the World War, the military and

naval men the world over, the big game hunters, the aviators, motorists, yachtsmen.” By the end of the 1920s, wristwatch production would surpass pocket watch output at most U.S. factories and Swiss factories, a trend that became more pronounced over time.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following military style watch, dating to after WWI (the 1920s) but in the military trench style. Its hinged-back, wire lug case is crafted of 14kt Solid Yellow Gold and was made by Jacques Depollier & Son , a prominent case maker and watch firm in the early 20th century.
Depollier was founded by its namesake in 1877 (in Brooklyn, NY) and made cases under the “Dubois” name as well. They are best known for their unique cases for WWI period military and sportsman watches, including one of the very first waterproof watches, a good ten years before Rolex. It was also a Depollier-cased Waltham that was on the wrist of pilot Roland Rohlfs when, in 1919, he broke the world record by flying to an altitude of 34,610 feet in a Curtiss L-3 triplane.
As with all Depollier watches this timepiece features a robust Waltham 15 jewel mechanism. One of its key selling points of this Depollier and similar sterling silver “Khaki” models was its“unbreakable glass that will not loosen or fall out” – in fact, one of the earliest uses of a heavy duty plastic crystal on a watch – this Depollier never had a glass crystal!
This watch measures 38mm from lug end to lug end and 32mm in width (34.5mm with winding crown) or 1-1/2 inches long by 1-1/4 inches wide, not counting the crown. My watchmaker David has fully serviced its 3/0 size, finely damasked 15 jewel mechanism and it runs very well and keeps accurate time.
This original white porcelain enamel dial is in excellent PLUS condition with no chips or damage – one small hairline at the edge (near the 4) only. It features a black 60 minute outer track border, Arabic style numbers, original Skeleton hands with fill and a recessed sub-seconds dial with 60 second chapter and sweeping seconds hand. Signed WALTHAM below the 12.
The hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent condition. Again, this model originally came with an acrylic (early plastic) crystal and NOT glass. The three-piece 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold case is in excellent condition, complete with solid 14k gold wire lugs that are solid and secure. The matching winding crown is in excellent condition with a secure stem sleeve. It winds and sets smoothly.
Turning the watch over I find that the hinged back lid is in excellent condition, decoratively monogrammed as shown. Peeking inside I find a clean 2/3 bridge, fifteen jewel mechanism with fancy damaskeening on the top plates. It is signed Waltham, 15 Jewels USA with serial number #26,986,679 – dating it to the mid 1920s. The inside case lid is clearly stamped J. DEPOLLIER & SON – 14K – 429,965 and is guaranteed to be 14k solid yellow gold.
This timepiece has just been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure that it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes complete with a new 14mm black men’s length oil leather strap with fold-over ends especially designed for solid wire lug watches such as this. All in all a excellent, early military watch from two of the finest in the watch industry – you can’t beat a

the 1920s through the 1940s, the Gruen Watch Company of USA & Switzerland was one of the leaders in wristwatch design and quality, even collaborating with Rolex (i.e., the Aegler movement duo-dial doctor’s watch) from its factories in Switzerland. Prior to WWII, Gruen was better known in the USA than Rolex, which at that time was concentrating on the British and Commonwealth countries (hence lots of early Rolexes coming out of Australia and the UK). Hans Wilsdorf and Gruen were friends and neighbors in Switzerland (their factories were just yards away), and even agreed to market their watches as Rolex Gruen in Europe, but the Great Depression and more urgent matters prevented this.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage ladies timepiece from the Gruen firm, a Guild series Cartouche model in pristine condition. This watch is 14kt White Gold (Reinforced with Metal), as stamped inside, a superior example of a 14k White Gold filled case.
Triple-signed, it measures 29mm lug tip to lug tip and 17mm in width (19mm with original cabochon sapphire crown). This works out to be just over 1-1/8 inches long by 5/8 of an inch wide, not counting the crown. It has been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David and its original 15 jewel, 4 adjustment Gruen Guild, manual wind mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The two-tone silver, enamel finished dial is in mint condition – professionally restored to its correct original status and beautifully done. It features black enamel painted Art Nouveau style numerals, original blue steel hands and a 60 minute inner track. Signed GRUEN below the 12 and Switzerland below the 6. The 14 Karat White Gold Filled engraved case (14kt Gold reinforced with metal) is in excellent PLUS condition. The highlight has to be its inlaid black enameling on all sides of the dial – in perfect shape. The original winding crown is of a style unique to Gruen (beaded) and features a cabochon sapphire tip (small nick). It is in great shape and operates smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid features a finely engraved floral border and is in excellent order. Inside I find a clean and higher-grade Fifteen Jewel Gruen Guild Series movement, a caliber 153. This movement is signed 15 JEWELS FIFTEEN – 4 ADJ. FOUR - GRUEN GUILD –153, SUISSE. The inside of the case lid is stamped GRUEN – 14K GOLD REINFORCED WITH METAL – WADSWORTH, 153 / 57

with case number below.
Now to discuss the “reinforced with metal” stamp on this case. To quote an original Gruen pamphlet “The Gruen Reinforced Case is a 14kt. Gold-filled case, reinforced with extra gold where there is the greatest wear – in reality two cases, one gold and one alloy, fitted together. Thus stiffness or rigidity is given the outside, which is sufficiently heavy to permit fine, deep hand engraving and which fully resists all outside wear. It is therefore superior in gold value and in movement protection to any gold-filled case – second only to a high grade, heavy, solid gold case.”. So now you know what these cases are all about and perhaps why this watch’s case is in such fantastic shape.
This fully serviced Cartouche model winds and sets very smoothly while keeping very good time. She is fitted on a new 10mm black leather strap with matching color buckle. All in all a beautiful, ready to wear “Cartouche” model from the Roaring 20s – I think the high bidder is going to love this one.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following timepiece from the Bulova firm, a men’s 14kt Solid Yellow Gold model that dates to 1945 and is in excellent order. I am not familiar with the name of this model but its fancy “angled” lugs make it similar to the Douglas model. If you know the name please send me a message!
Triple-signed, it measures 37mm end to end and 22mm in width (23.5mm with original, unmarked crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-1/2 inches long by 7/8 of an inch in width, not including the crown. My Bulova-trained watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 17 jewel, manual wind 8AH caliber mechanism to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory colored, matte enamel finished dial is in excellent shape, professionally restored at some point in the recent past. It features a 60 minute checkered outer track border, raised gold numerals, gold metal Spade-style hands and a recessed sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and ‘sweep’ gold seconds hand. It is signed

BULOVA in raised gold lettering below the 12.
The curved acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The two-piece case is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent PLUS condition – complete with nice, angled lugs that are best appreciated when viewing the watch in profile (as shown above). The winding crown, while unmarked, is the original and in excellent shape, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent PLUS shape with absolutely no wear or engravings, past or present. It is clearly stamped BULOVA – 14K at one edge and 54,152 on the opposite side. Inside is a clean, fully serviced Bulova mechanism, signed Bulova Watch Co., Swiss – Seventeen 17 Jewels [Caliber] 8AH. There is also a TRIANGLE date code indicating a 1945 production date.
This fancy lug, Tank form model has been fully serviced by a Bulova-trained watchmaker to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new and high quality 16mm deBeer Paris hand crafted lizard grain strap with matching gold color buckle. I’ve always loved Bulova, an American company of great repute. It was founded by Czech immigrant Joseph Bulova and based in New York City, where the famous Bulova Observatory was located, high above a skyscraper on Fifth Avenue. Like Gruen, it also had a factory in (Bienne) Switzerland, established in 1912 and dedicated to the production of watch components and their assembly into jeweled movements. The firm is known for its aggressive advertising campaigns and for being the first to advertise on radio – with an announcer stating “B – U – L – O – V – A … 8:00p.m., Bulova Watch Time.”
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage ladies timepiece from the Bulova firm, a finely engraved, hinged case model that dates to 1925. This 14kt white gold filled model is in excellent condition inside and out and features a sterling silver, enamel finished dial and cabochon sapphire crown.
Triple-signed, its wire lug case measures 29mm end to end and 17mm in width (20mm with winding crown). In inches this works out to be 1-1/8” by 5/8” not including the crown and it is fitted on new black leather Swiss strap that will fit a wrist 5-1/2 inches to 6-3/4 inches in size. My Bulova-trained watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 15 jewel, 2 adjustment Bulova mechanism to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The sterling silver, enamel finished dial is in flawless condition, professionally restored to its original status. It features

black enamel painted numerals, a crisp checkered 60 minute inner track border, original blued steel Spade-tip hands and a finely engraved & etched Florentine center dial that must be seen in person to be appreciated. Signed BULOVA below the 12 and embossed SWISS at the dial base.
The glass crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The case is a a 14kt white gold FILLED beauty, a tour-de-force of Art Deco embossing and geometric engraving on the bezel, case sides and even the back lid. It is hinged at the rear and closes securely…in excellent condition. The cabochon sapphire winding crown is excellent as well, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent PLUS shape with no wear or engravings, just a finely engraved border. Peeking inside via the secure hinged back case (opens and closes perfectly), I find a high grade Oval-shaped Fifteen Jewel, manual wind movement that is signed Bulova Watch Co., Swiss, [Caliber] 6P – Fifteen 15 Jewels, Two 2 Adj.. There is also a “circle” date code stamp just below the crown, indicating a 1925 production date. The inside of the case lid is signed BULOVA QUALITY – FILLED – AMERICAN STANDARD with case number below.
This fully serviced timepiece winds and sets very smoothly while keeping accurate time. Founded by Ernest Francillon and Auguste Agassiz in the year 1832, the Longines Watch Co. of Switzerland was established in the “Long Meadows” (translated: Longines) near the town of St. Imier. Winner of countless horology awards, their wristwatches are among the best in the world, on par with the “big boys” of the Swiss watch making profession including its chief rival Omega.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Longines timepiece, a men’s ca 1950 14kt Solid White Gold model with 17 Genuine Diamonds set within the hour markers of the dial – it even has its original Solid 14k Gold Longines-signed buckle attached to a new deBeer strap. Please note that this is a larger size timepiece for its era and I have shown it next to a normal size men’s Bulova watch (see below) for comparison purposes.
This triple-

signed Tank form watch measures 40mm lug tip to lug tip and 25.5mm in width (26mm with winding crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-5/8 inches long by 1 inch wide, not including the crown. It is powered by its original 17 jewel, 22L caliber manual wind Longines mechanism that has been fully serviced prior to auction to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, the original dial that has had its silver finish professionally restored. It features a 60 minute outer track border, applied rhodium hour markers with genuine diamonds (three diamonds each at the 12, 3 and 9 positions), original silver steel Baton-style hands and a separate seconds dial with recessed circular center and ‘sweep’ original silver seconds hand. Signed LONGINES below the 12 marker and SWISS at the base of the dial.
The curved solid glass crystal is in excellent shape with no flaws. The case is a two-piece design that is 14 Karat Solid White Gold and it is in excellent to mint condition, complete with curved sides and faceted lugs – not a flaw anywhere. The unmarked white gold finished winding crown is in excellent shape and operates smoothly.
Turning the watch over I find that the 14k solid white gold back lid is in excellent PLUS condition and without any wear or engravings, past or present. It is stamped K&L 14K at one edge for the case maker and gold content Looking inside I find a clean and fully serviced manual wind mechanism, signed Longines Watch Co., Swiss – Seventeen 17 Jewels [Grade] 22L, LXW with serial number 8,045,994 – dating the watch to ca 1950. In its glory years from the 1920s through the 1950s, the Gruen Watch Company of USA & Switzerland was one of the leaders in wristwatch design and quality, even collaborating with Rolex (i.e., the Aegler movement duo-dial doctor’s watch) from its factories in Switzerland. Prior to WWII, Gruen was better known in the USA than Rolex, which at that time was concentrating on the British and Commonwealth countries (hence lots of early Rolexes coming out of Australia and the UK). Hans Wilsdorf and Gruen were friends and neighbors in Switzerland (their factories were just yards away), and even agreed to market their watches as

Rolex Gruen in Europe, but the Great Depression (and more urgent matters) prevented this.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following self-winding men’s timepiece from the firm, an “AUTOWIND” model in 14kt Solid Yellow Gold that dates to 1960. This watch is entirely original right down to its Kreisler expansion bracelet (shown in photos below) and original Gruen Precision red display box – both in excellent shape. This was a presentation (award) watch and it appears that it was worn only a few times, if at all, in the past 52 years.
While much interest and excitement can be found with the firm’s Quadron, Pan American and Curvex models, not as many collectors are familiar with the company’s entry into the self-winding market beginning in the early 1950s, competing head on with Omega and Longines. Of note is this model’s jewel count: 23 jewels. Up until now I had never owned a Gruen automatic that wasn’t 17 jewels.
Triple-signed for Gruen, this Autowind model measures 41.5mm end to end and 34mm in width (35.5mm with partially recessed original, unmarked crown). In inches this works out to be 1-5/8” long by just shy of 1-3/8” wide, not including the crown. My skilled watchmaker David has fully serviced its 550ss caliber mechanism to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver color, enamel finished dial is in excellent overall condition – a few tiny specks of age but it shows very nicely as you can see. I guarantee it has not been restored or refinished. It features applied yellow gold hour markers, original gold metal Lance-style hands and a ‘sweep’ gold metal center seconds hand. Signed GRUEN PRECISION below the 12 and 23 JEWELS AUTOWIND above the 6.
The domed acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition with no flaws. The three-piece case is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent to mint condition – complete with curving lugs and without any flaws. The original gold finished winding crown is correctly (for the era) unmarked and partially recessed into the case. It is in excellent shape and operates smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is 14kt solid yellow gold with a separate, screw-down 14kt gold ring. This was a presentation watch and it is signed “In Recognition of 20 Years Service- Howard Marr – December 1960 – The Cornelius Company.” Personally I like inscriptions that are nicely done (this one is beautifully done) as they add to the history of the timepiece. The case back is also

stamped 14K GOLD, as shown, and is guaranteed to be 14k solid yellow gold. Inside is clean and higher-grade 23 jewel rotor automatic movement, signed Gruen Watch Co., Autowind – Twenty Three – 23 Jewels, Swiss, GXC. Below the balance is the caliber of F1560 (ebauche = Felca). The inside case back is stamped Cased & Timed by the Gruen Watch Co. – 550SS -026 with case number below. The “SS” after the caliber 550 stands for Sweep Seconds.
This fully disassembled, cleaned, oiled & regulated timepiece winds and sets smoothly (smooth rotor action) and keeps accurate time. It comes on a new 18mm black deBeer lizard grain band with gold finished buckle, a nice quality strap. This watch also comes with its original Kreisler, USA 10kt gold filled expansion bracelet (as shown on the watch in picture above) and original display box, signed “Gruen – The Precision Watch” both inside and out. The band and box are both in excellent original condition. If you ever wanted a vintage Gruen automatic this is IT I think – all original, with box, bracelet and a unique 23 jewel, 14k solid gold model – I doubt I’ll find another like it.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Founded in 1892, the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA would not officially start producing watches until 1894. Its first chosen name was the “Columbian Watch Co.” but this had already been copyrighted by the Waterbury Company. The name Hamilton was then chosen - a tribute to Lancaster’s founding father, Mr. Andrew Hamilton, a Scottish-born attorney who was instrumental in the town’s growth.
By 1908 Hamilton was producing a lady’s pendant (convertible) watch and, following the USA’s entry into WWI, a small line of military style wire lug trench watches were available for men. Hamilton never looked back, arguably producing the highest quality American made watches from the 1920s through the 1960s.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following men’s WHITMAN model from the firm, a streamlined, stepped sided 10kt Yellow Gold filled model that was first introduced in 1940. This is the first “Whitman” that I’ve had and what a nice one with its original butler finish dial and excellent case.
Triple-signed for Hamilton, its case measures 38mm end to end and 22.5mm in width (23.5mm with partially recessed original winding crown). In inches this works out to be 1-1/2” long by 7/8” wide, not counting the crown. Mr. Bryan Girouard (artdecowristwatchescom) has fully serviced its original 17 jewel, 980 grade manual wind mechanism to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver, butler finish enamel dial is in excellent condition – untouched since it left the factory and with only a speck or two of age. It features a 60 minute outer track border, applied 18kt Solid Gold numerals, original Spade-style gold metal hands and a

rectangular-form seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and ‘sweep’ original seconds hand. Signed HAMILTON below the 12.
The solid glass crystal is in excellent condition and clear. The rectangular, Tank form case is 10 Karat Yellow Gold Filled and in excellent PLUS condition with absolutely NO wear whatsoever. Note the stepped sides on this one – subtle but a nice detail. The winding crown (correctly unmarked for era and original) is a matching yellow gold-finished and in excellent shape, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent condition with no wear or engravings -one light scratch if I were to be picky. It is stamped 10K Gold Filled at the edge. Peeking inside I find a clean Seventeen jewel movement signed Hamilton Watch Co., 17 Jewels - [Grade] 980 with serial number G273,367. The inside of the case lid is stamped HAMILTON WATCH COMPANY - LANCASTER, PA., WADSWORTH - 10K GOLD FILLED – PEND’T PAT’D 5-3-27 with case number below.
This timepiece has been cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new 16mm black lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching gold buckle. Folks, you won’t be disappointed with this watch as it’s as nice and original as they come – a streamlined Art Moderne timepiece from America’s best – Hamilton.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers.
I am happy to offer for sale the following vintage men’s timepiece from Wittnauer, a late 1950s Execu-Matic 2122 model set within a stainless steel case with dramatically curved lugs. This automatic wind watch is what I would call a “real looker” and it

Page 37: holben/Descriptions/July 23, 2012.docx · Web viewTaking a look inside I find an original and high-grade mechanism signed LeCoultre Co., Swiss – Seventeen 17 Jewels, VXN

comes complete with its original hinged Longines-Wittnauer signed display case.
Triple signed, it measures 38mm lug tip to lug tip and 33mm in width (35mm with notched steel crown). This works out to be 1-1/2 inches long by just over 1-1/4 inches wide, not including the crown. It has been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David and its higher grade 17 jewel, rotor automatic Wittnauer 11ARB caliber mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The black enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored to its original status and I can honestly say it’s even more impressive in person as it has a “Sunburst” effect (raised lines) that is best seen when it catches the light. Needless to say this watch was a BEAR to photograph. Features include raised silver “arrow” hour markers and Arabic numerals, original silver steel Dauphine-style hands with luminous fill and ‘sweep’ silver steel seconds hand. Signed WITTNAUER below the 12 and Automatic above the 6. It is further signed SWISS at the base of the dial.
The gently domed hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The two-piece Wittnauer-signed case is all stainless steel and in excellent overall condition with dramatically curved lugs – almost like a drivers watch. The notched steel crown (unmarked) is in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the screw-down back lid is in excellent overall shape – a few small scratches but no wear or engravings. It is stamped Stainless Steel along the edge. Inside I find a clean and high quality rotor automatic mechanism that is signed Wittnauer Watch Co. Inc., Seventeen 17 Jewels, [Caliber] 11ARB Swiss – AXA. The inside case lid is signed Wittnauer, New York - Geneva – Montreal, Star W.C. Co. Stainless Steel – 2122 – 11SN with case number below.
This cleaned, oiled and regulated beauty winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new 17mm matte black lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching stainless steel buckle so you’re all set. Included is its original hinged display case – signed Longines-Wittnauer inside and out. It has a piece of the plastic missing from the bottom right edge (as shown in photo) but is great to have with the watch as it makes a nice package. All in all a nice and ready to wear early self-winding Wittnauer – the black sunburst dial and curved lugs really make this watch.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy

Founded in 1892, the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA would not officially start producing watches until 1894. Its first chosen name was the “Columbian Watch Co.” but this had already been copyrighted by the Waterbury Company. The name Hamilton was then chosen - a tribute to Lancaster’s founding father, Mr. Andrew Hamilton, a Scottish-born attorney who was instrumental in the town’s

growth.
By 1908 Hamilton was producing a lady’s pendant (convertible) watch and, following the USA’s entry into WWI, a small line of military style wire lug trench watches were available for men. Hamilton never looked back, arguably producing the highest quality American made watches from the 1920s through the 1960s.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following men’s PELHAM model from the firm, a fancy sculpted case 10kt Yellow Gold filled model that was first introduced in 1954 and also dates to 1954. Like the Whitman I just listed this is the first “Pelham” that I’ve had for sale – similar to the “Ryan” model and a true BEAR to photograph given its sculpted lugs and case. I can assure you that the case on this watch is in excellent PLUS condition and the dial is 100% original.
Triple-signed for Hamilton, its case measures 40mm end to end and 25mm in width (27mm with winding crown). In inches this works out to be just under 1-5/8” long by 1” wide, not counting the crown. My trusted watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 19 jewel, 753 grade manual wind mechanism to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver, butler finish enamel dial is in great overall condition – untouched since it left the factory and with only a light speckling of age. It features applied 18kt Solid Gold numerals and hour markers that sit upon a contrasting silver border, original Lance-style gold metal hands and a square shaped seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and ‘sweep’ original seconds hand. Signed HAMILTON below the 12.
The raised and gently curved acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The two-piece case is is 10 Karat Yellow Gold Filled and in excellent PLUS condition with absolutely NO wear whatsoever. I really like the sculptural quality of this one, curving around all sides of the bezel and with nicely sculpted lugs. The winding crown is a matching yellow gold finished (unmarked) and in excellent shape, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent PLUS condition with no wear or engravings. It is stamped 10K Gold Filled –Hamilton at the edge. Peeking inside I find a clean nineteen jewel movement with Geneva striping. A top notch mechanism. It is signed Hamilton 19 Jewels - [Grade] 753, USA with serial number 70809F, dating it to 1954 – the first year this model was made. The inside of the case lid is stamped PELHAM - HAMILTON WATCH COMPANY - LANCASTER, PA., 10K

GOLD FILLED with case number and case maker initials for Schwab & Wuischpard (S&W) below.
This timepiece has been cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new 18mm black deBeer hand crafted lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching gold buckle so you’re all set. If you collect Hamilton watches or simply like mid-century American design I think you’ll really like this original “Pelham” – my very first.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers.
