Looking back on 2014

We guided one of the large corporates in India on water related CSR interventions based on a Water Stress Index created on a pan India basis considering water availability, quality and climate induced uncertainty.

We prepared a framework for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) to guide inves tments in the na tura l resource management sector for a Program operated by NABARD, KfW and GIZ. We are also developing for Gujarat International Finance Tech-city (GIFT) an Environmental and social Policy Framework that embeds sustainability considerations.

We conducted several DDs across India and overseas covering numerous sectors. These DDs were for investors and corporates checking adherence to Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, Sector specific EHS guidelines by World Bank Group and OECD Principles of Corporate Governance.

Improving environmental compliance AND competitiveness is what business looks for. Along with IVAM, the Netherlands, we are working with 50 Bangladeshi textile wet processing industries to conduct Cleaner Production audits. In this process, EMC trained local consultants and built capacities in achieving savings up to 20% in water and energy consumption.

We were engaged by Government of Mauritius to operationalise the Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) Plan and integrate into Public Procurement Process for the Ministry of Finance. A Green Criteria was developed for 5 products, 60 procurement officers were trained and bid documents with a guidance manual were prepared. SPP in Mauritius is a first in many aspects amongst the developing world and a model to follow.

A new year is an opportunity to look forward to. As well as an occasion to look back on the year gone by. At EMC LLP, we have selected a few special projects of 2014 to share with you; for the learning and the impact we’re proud to have achieved through them.

Two projects under this category include – Advanced statistical analyses of water quality data of 18 stations on River Godavari over 7 years for Maharashtra Pollution Control Board. Second project involved application of AERMOD-7, OCD and ISC-ST for a Thermal Power Plant near a coastal area with comparative assessment and validation of the models with field data.

Looking forward to 2015

Happy New Year!

EMC has grown as a family over the past eighteen years developing lasting relationships with our clients, associates as well as our ex-EMC team. We have a strong link with Academia and take in a number of Interns every year. Unlike consulting companies, we have forged bonds with local communities, making us different. Do visit us online at www.emcentre.com

We are perhaps the only Indian environmental company active not only within India but also prominently positioned overseas with an envious number of international clients. Our hope is to escalate this unique feature in 2015 and beyond.

Areas we want to focus in future include Strategic CSR Advisory, Sustainability Transformation in Organizations, Green Productivity, ESG at Financial Institutions, EHS, Energy and Social DDs, Advanced Environmental Data Analytics and Modeling. We will be expanding our team and seeking partnerships on this basis.
