NOVEMBER DECEMBER JANUARY IN THIS ISSUE

Since 2014, the Hnam Chang Ngeh project (House of Hope in Bahnar language) have been operating in Kon Tum. This development aid project is managed by the French NGO Poussières de Vie. Over the last three years, the hotel has welcomed many volunteers and staff from all over the world.

The Hnam Chang Ngeh training center has trained 113 young people to work in hospitality (82 females and 31 males). Many of our former students have found a stable job and got hired at the place where they did their internship and some of them are even employed now at Hnam Chang Ngeh!

Recruitment of the new students

In November, our Hnam Chang Ngeh teachers were busy with the recruitment of our next students. The potential students have done some English, Mathematics, and motivation tests. The selected students come from Sa Thay, Kon Tum, Ngoc Hoi & Dak Lak. After the selection, all Hnam Chang Ngeh teachers went to visit the students and meet their families.

The beginning of the training with one month of intensive English for the promotion 7 students

Thus, in December, 19 students have started at Hnam Chang Ngeh Training Center with a month of intensive English. The first month training consisted of 114 hours of classes: English (93 hours), Physical Education (12 hours) and Sexual Education (8 hours).

The start of hospitality classes

After a successful intensive month of English, the students have started their hospitality training. Indeed, the month of January focused on learning hospitality theory. Housekeeping, service and reception classes were taught by our staff and volunteers.

The promotion 6 students have started their 5-month internship in November

At the beginning of the month of November, our promotion 6 students have left Kon Tum to finally start their hospitality career. They have gone all over Vietnam (Phu Quoc, Mui Ne & Ho Chi Minh City) into our partner properties. For most of them, it was their first time in a bus and in a plane, how exciting!

Visit of students in their internship

In January, the Hnam Chang Ngeh teachers visited the promotion 6 students in their internship placements. It was a fulfilling moment for our teachers to see our students in action in the hospitality world and how inspiring was it to see our former students now employed and teaching the current interns about the industry.

HNAM CHANG NGEH HOTEL, RESTAURANT & BAR

Hnam Chang Ngeh is now offering guided tours!

Our guests will be able to go discover the area with three friendly locals: Mr A Loai, Mr Son and Mr Tri. If interested, please ask our receptionist about our different tours: Sunset, Bahnar or Jarai village, Coffee plantation or trek. Additionally, Hnam Chang Ngeh can organize motorbike rental for the guests.

Food & Drinks

A lot has happened at Hnam Chang Ngeh over the three last months. If you feel hungry, please do not hesitate to come to our restaurant or bar to taste the flavors of our new menu for food (Vietnamese and Western) and drinks (including mocktails).

Moreover, we have now opened our smoothie station! Every morning of the week, from 6 to 8:30am, our students practice the functioning of a business in terms of buying goods, transforming it and selling it to customers. The smoothie station offers smoothies, coffee, soy milk, and banh mih.

Staff

Hnam Chang Ngeh has welcomed 6 newcomers over the last months!

Nhi, a former student from promotion 4 is now employed at Hnam Chang Ngeh as a translator, waiter and receptionist.

Suưng, from promotion 6 has been added to the team for her 5-month hospitality internship. She takes care of the housekeeping at Hnam Chang Ngeh

Also, Joseph (F&B teacher), Sephora (Reception and Housekeeping teacher), Victoire (Communication and mathematics teacher) and Daniel (English teacher and Communication) have been added to the Hnam Chang Ngeh team!

EVENTS

Christmas with the students

On the 24th of December, our students have participated to a cooking competition. They learned how to bake cookies and French sablés with the help of our volunteers for Hnam Chang Ngeh Christmas dinner.

Vinh Son Christmas party

In December, the Hnam Chang Ngeh staff, partners (CapGemini) and students participated in the organization of the Vinh Sons’ Christmas Party. All of the 6 orphanages were united for a morning of games with the partners, the BAFA team and our students and in the afternoon, the children performed a talent show. Our promotion 7 students helped with the service of our partners.

Chef Leornad Lampin ‘s cooking class

During his stay in Hnam Chang Ngeh, the renowned French Chef Leonard Lampin organized a cooking class for our students and staff. Together, they created a French-Vietnamese meal where they have reinterpreted the famous French “Tomates Farcies” with local flavors.

Visit of Kon Klor hotel for the promotion 7 students

In order to get a deeper insight into the hospitality world, our students have visited one of our partners: Kon Klor Hotel. They got to learn a lot about the different job opportunities in hotels by interviewing the staff and seeing their operations.
