The Hong Kong Dental Association is proud to present you the 2013 Hong Kong International Dental Expo and Symposium (HKIDEAS) which will be held on 9 – 11 August 2013. It will be a continuation of our commitment to foster advancement and exchange of knowledge and skills in the field of dentistry.

The success of the 1st and 2nd HKIDEAS in 2010 and 2011 has reinforced our determination to make the congress a regular event to update our dental colleagues on the latest dental technology and developments.

This year our theme is “Blueprint to Success”. We aim at bringing forth an insightful and enlightening scientific programme by inviting renowned dental experts in various domains to share their research results and clinical experience, hoping that the improved knowledge and science will ultimately be transformed into best practice of dentistry. This event will serve as an ideal platform for dental professionals to broaden their horizons. It also provides an excellent opportunity for exhibitors to showcase their sophisticated products and devices.

We believe the great diversity of sightseeing attractions in Hong Kong will impress every participant, giving them memorable and interesting experiences.

I sincerely look forward to seeing you at the HKIDEAS 2013. Your participation will certainly help make this event another success.

Hong KongRenowned for its expansive skyline and deep natural harbour, Hong Kong is one of the two special administrative regions (SARs) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the other being Macau. As one of the world’s leading international financial centres, with a perfect amalgamation of chinese and western influences, it is truly and rightfully known as “Asia’s World City” or “East meets West” destination.

To ensure you have a comfortable stay during the symposium, we have briefly put together some important information. We hope you find this helpful.

WeatherHong Kong has a sub-tropical climate, being temperate for nearly half the year, with cool, dry winters and hot, humid summers.

May - AugustMay to August are hot and humid with occasional showers and thunderstorms, and the highest temperatures often exceed 31°C. July to September are the months during which Hong Kong is most likely to be affected by tropical cyclones. About 80 percent of the rain falls between May and September. The wettest month is August, when rain occurs about four days out of seven.

For further information and current weather, please visit the Hong Kong Observatory websitewww.hko.gov.hk.

TransportationHong Kong has one of the most efficient, relatively inexpensive and user-friendly means of transport network. Payments can be made using an Octopus Card, an electronic stored-value card that is widely accepted on railways, buses and ferries. Generally, the Octopus card + MTR + Buses form the dream team of Hong Kong transportation. With bilingual signage across the territory, cruising around the streets, lanes and busy areas is easy. The train journey via the Airport Express is an interesting experience as well.
