Recording Attributes vs Constructing Access Points
RDA Attributes
![Page 4: Hit the ground running!](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022070500/568168ba550346895ddfa39d/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)

![Page 5: Hit the ground running!](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022070500/568168ba550346895ddfa39d/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Attributes Attributes are elements that identify
and/or describe a person, corporate body, or work, expression, etc.
Within the MARC21 environment, attributes (especially for works) may appear in either/both authority records and bibliographic records
![Page 6: Hit the ground running!](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022070500/568168ba550346895ddfa39d/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Attributes vs Authorized access points
An authorized access point is made up: The preferred form of name (whether
person, work, expression, etc.) Attribute(s), but only if core or if necessary
to differentiate the name from a similar name
Some (but not all) attributes MAY be used in a authorized access point, but not necessarily
![Page 7: Hit the ground running!](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022070500/568168ba550346895ddfa39d/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Recording Attributes in NARs Need to be able to record attributes
independently of the 1XX Several new MARC fields have been
created to record these attributes Data may or may not be used in the
construction of preferred access points, and may not be in the same form as that in the preferred access point
SEARCHABLE in OCLC (en:)

Attributes in Bib Records attributes for works and expressions will
often be recorded in the bib record as well as the authority record
The same data may be recorded differently in bib vs authority records—one may use a controlled vocabulary, one may not
