HISTORY TOUR

The Channel Islands were the only part of Britain tohave been occupied by German forces in World WarII. Explore unique wartime history and see thetraces the five-year-long occupation left behind,from concrete defences, bunkers and fortifications,to a network of underground tunnels.

Add on the amazing Escape Rooms. You will have tofind clues, break codes, solve puzzles and find thekey to your freedom. Using your powers ofobservation and problem-solving, you and yourteam will have to work together to escape

Students can also learn about Jersey’s prehistory, The Hundred Years War, castle and fortress building, the Napoleonic Wars and World War I.

Jersey offers a unique experience and we willprovide the best Guides the Island has to offer. Youwill visit the War Tunnels and Military Museum, andwe will combine all of this with excursions and thesuperb experiences Jersey has to offer.


HISTORY TOURINTRODUCTION

Itinerary: With Day 1 being a date to suit in 2020

Day 1

Meet at your nearest airport to check in for your flight to Jersey.

On arrival in Jersey, your Tantivy coach, together with a Sweet Chariotrepresentative, will meet you. Transfer to your 3* hotel, where you will stayfor the next 3 nights on a full board basis.

This afternoon, you will visit the fantastic Channel Island Military Museum,housed in a WW2 German bunker on St. Ouen’s Bay. This museum gives aninsight into occupation, from German military artefacts to memories,recounted and recorded by locals who lived through it.

Return to your hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2

This morning you will visit the Jersey War Tunnels. Built by forced labourbrought to the Island, these tunnels formed a field hospital during theoccupation but now serve as a museum dedicated to telling the story of lifeduring the occupation. On arrival all pupils will be given a replica identitycard issued to the Islanders by the German forces.

This afternoon you will enjoy a visit to Mont Orgueil Castle beforereturning to your hotel for dinner.


HISTORY TOUR

Day 3

Today you will embark on a Guided Tour of the Island Fortifications. Hitlerordered the island to be turned into an impregnable fortress, and that’sclear to see when you explore the Island further. During the tour enjoy astop for lunch on the beach.

This afternoon you will have some time in St Helier to explore the capital.

Return to the hotel in time for your evening meal.

Day 4

This morning, travel to the Channel Islands Occupation Society Bunker. Avisit to the bunker is a unique opportunity to glimpse into this period ofhistory, and a chance to see traces of the occupation years for yourself.

After lunch collect your luggage and board your coach to the airport foryour return flight home.
