The KUKKIWON star ted in 1972 as a

Taekwondo Central Dojang and has taken an

initiating role in globalizing Taekwondo and

invigorating the martial arts Taekwondo.

The KUKKIWON laid the groundwork to

globalize Taekwondo by conducting the 1st

World Taekwondo Championships in 1973 and

launch the World Taekwondo Federation.

In 1978, the KUKKIWON fort i f ied the

foundation of Taekwondo development by

unification of 10 Kwans(Chung Do Kwan, Moo

Duk Kwan, Ji Do Kwan, Song Moo Kwan,

Chang Moo Kwan, Kang Duk Won, Jung Do

Kwan, Oh Do Kwan, Han Moo Kwan, and

Early Years of

KUKKIWON

Opening of KUKKIWONKUKKIWON held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Central Dojang on the hulls of Yeoksam-Dong Gangnam-Gu, Seoul on November 19, 1971.

Unifying the Promotion Test System and Master Education TrainingKUKKIWON’s Promotion Teat regulations were drafted on March 1, 1972. The KUKKIWON Poom/Dan evaluations were only conducted for black belt holders who completed the Master Education’ conducted by the KUKKIWON.

Academic Aspects of Taekwondo On September 2, 1985, KUKKIWON held the ‘1st World Taekwondo Seminar’ to discuss the academic aspects of Taekwondo. Local and international scholars and notable Taekwondo figures presented and debated the theoretical foundation.

Established TaekwondoDemonstration Team On September 6, 1974, President Kim created a Taekwondo demonstration team. The team played a significant role in globalizing Taekwondo through a non-government diplomacy.

KUKKIWON Demonstration Team KUKKIWON demonstration team demonstrated at the IOC Headquarters(President of IOC Juan Antonio Samaranch) on October 1987.

Unification of Taekwondo

‘Kwan’ In July 1978, the headquarters held a board of directors meeting and decided to first resolve the unification issue. On August 5, they agreed to shut down ten Kwans. They finally became on step closer to Taekwondo unity.

The First Military Taekwondo Championship The First Military Taekwondo Championship were held on November, 1st, 1980.

The Central Dojang of Dream At the end of 376 days of construction, the opening ceremony was held on November 30, 1972. The long awaited construction of Taekwondo Central Dojang was finally complete. Established World Taekwondo Federation

With 35 representatives of the 17 countries, Former president Mr. Un Yong KIM founded the WTF on May 25, 1973. WTF was the first device that turned Taekwondo – a traditional martial art - into a global sport.

The Meaning of KUKKIWON symbol A new KUKKIWON trademark was established on February 1, 1976. The earth in the center signified peace and unification of the human race. The newly designed CI reflected KUKKIWON’s purpose.

Strengthening the Poom·Dan Promotion Test Criteria

The KUKKIWON formulated a policy to revise

the overall problems on the Poom·Dan Promotion

Test and manage the 4·5th Dan test directly.

Therefore it will be more difficult to receive the

Dan certificates. It will be expected to improve the

quality of instructors and Dan holders.

KUKKIWON-Ministry of National Defense cooperate to activate the Military Taekwondo

The KUKKIWON has signed an MOU agreement with the Ministry of National Defense

(Minister Han Minkoo) to activate the Military Taekwondo on April 15th, 2015 at the

minister’s office.

The Defense Ministry will support the military Taekwondo Demonstration team, military

band, and the honor guard to the KUKKIWON events. The KUKKIWON will support the

training course for military Taekwondo Poom·Dan examiner.

The KUKKIWON was recently selected as the ‘Future heritage of Seoul’ by the future

heritage conservation committee of Seoul City(Mayor Park Won-soon). Future heritage

is tangible·intangible heritage which has the value to pass to future generation, but not

registered as a cultural property.

He emphasized that the KUKKIWON will continue to lead a bright future of Taekwondothrough strengthening the global Taekwondo stature, Instructor training, and establishment of the Promotion Test system.

Championship

2017 World Taekwondo Championship will be

held at Muju Taekwondowon in May, 2017 for

9 days. It is expected to participate over 2,000

athletes from 160 countries and it will be the

largest championships ever.

KUKKIWON selected as the ‘Future heritage of Seoul’

The KUKKIWON launched its first Overseas KUKKIWON BranchThe KUKKIWON signed an agreement with KUKKIWON GERMANY

(Chairman Park Soo Nam) to officially approve KUKKIWON Branch on

April 10th, 2015 at the KUKKIWON.

KUKKIWON has chosen Germany as a hub nation to invigorate the

KUKKIWON Taekwondo and expand KUKKIWON Target Business in Europe.

KUKKIWON held a meeting in AustriaThe KUKKIWON held a meeting with ETU and presidents of MNA to explain the purpose

of a KUKKIWON Branch and KUKKIWON Division overseas on May 31st, 2015 in Austria.

They have also introduced the current state of continent MOU and promotion projects,

while explaining the strategy to disseminate martial arts Taekwondo and KUKKIWON

project by installing the Europe Division.

KUKKIWON & ETU cooperationETU President Pragalos signed an MOU with KUKKIWON Taekwondo

Headquarters. The MOU entails cooperation between the two

organizations in the field of Poom/Dan Promotion tests, education of

instructors in Europe, as well as Hanmadang Festivals in Europe. The

signing of the MOU marks the beginning of an extensive cooperation and

the ETU is convinced this MOU will benefit the members in Europe.

Actively promoting KUKKIWON Businessat the World Taekwondo Championships in Russia

The KUKKIWON accelerates to enable overseas projects and enhance the global image.

The KUKKIWON installed the promotional booth at the Chelyabinsk World Taekwondo Championships, Russia, on May 12th to 15th,

and promoted its main projects and the 2015 World Taekwondo Hanmadang, by showing the KUKKIWON promotional video. Vice-president Oh Hyun Deok attended the WTF

General Assembly and explained the KUKKIWON overseas projects to the representatives of continental, MNA, and WTF Commissioners.

CHAMPIONSHIPEDUCATION

Promotion plan for the DispatchedMaster ProgramKUKKIWON has focused on the ‘Dispatched Master

Program’, which is one of the main projects.

This year’s project objective is to strengthen the

‘Global Business capabilities’ of the KUKKIWON by

dispatching highly competent masters to developing

countries and strategic countries.

The first Poom·Dan Promotion Test Examiner course in ChinaKUKKIWON conducted an International instructor course and Poom·Dan Promotion Test Examiner course in Qingdao, Shandong, China to improve the quality of Taekwondo in China.It was the first Poom·Dan Promotion Test Examiner course in China, which was organized by the Korea Taekwondo Association in China(KTAC). KTAC is the united group of Korean masters in China, and they’ve been trying to improve the relationship with the KUKKIWON since last year.

Instructor course held in the Russia World Taekwondo Championships

1. KUKKIWON Cup Taekwondo Championship in Malaysia

2015 Malaysia KUKKIWON Cup was held in Kuala Lumpur where 1,000 people attended on 2015 June

6th to 7th. It established the foundation to invigorate martial arts Taekwondo by adding board breaking

division and record breaking division.

3. India Taekwondo League Championship

KUKKIWON Cup was held in New Delhi, India on May 16th for four days where 1,500 people

participated from all over the India.

2. KUKKIWON Cup Taekwondo Championship in Bangladesh

The first KUKKIWON Cup in Bangladesh was successfully held in Dhaka. 649 people attended from the

18 cities and it was supported by the KUKKIWON and sponsored by the National Sports Commission of

Bangladesh and Bangladesh Taekwondo Federation.

5. The 2015 World Taekwondo Hanmadang signed an MOU with the Pyeongtaek City

KUKKIWON signed an MOU agreement with the Pyeongtaek City on February 24th to conduct the ‘2015 World

Taekwondo Hanmadang’ successfully.

4. Sri Lanka Army Commando Regiment held the first Taekwondo Championship

KUKKIWON signed an MOU agreement with the Pyeongtaek City on February 24th to conduct the

‘2015 World Taekwondo Hanmadang’ successfully.

KUKKIWON TAEKWONDOCHAMPIONSHIP

The Korean Cultural Service Poland was held the 4th Korea Festival successfully in Warsaw on June 13th. They had various programs such as Taekwondo Demonstration and traditional performances.

Former DTU president, Heinz Gruber and Mr. Russell Chanseob Ahn(Prof. of Berkely University) visited Kukkiwon for the 8th Dan test. They interviewed with the President Jeong after the test, and they promise to strive to train the next generation.

KUKKIWON had the 2015 World Taekwondo Hanmadang Organizing Committee appointment ceremony on June 10th. The 2015 World Taekwondo Hanmadang will be held on July 30th to August 2nd in Pyeongtaek City.

KUKKIWON plan to push forward an International Policy Project to promote Kukkiwon target business, including the

Kukkiwon Poom·Dan Promotion test, and vitalize the martial art Taekwondo to enhance business ability and build an international organization. We kindly ask your full cooperation on this matter.

• Purpose : In order to vitalize the KUKKIWON Business through building the overseas organization based• Direction : Promote to set up the KUKKIWON Branch or Division depending on national circumstances.

1) KUKKIWON BranchThe KUKKIWON plan to set up one branch for each nation. The KUKKIWON can directly establish the overseas corporation or approve a National Association or local subsidiary as the KUKKIWON Branch.2) KUKKIWON DivisionThe KUKKIWON plan to set up the KUKKIWON Division as a pre-stage, for establishing the KUKKIWON Branch and to carry out the KUKKIWON target business, including the KUKKIWON Poom·Dan Promotion Test through an agreement with the national association or Taekwondo organization.

1. Establish the KUKKIWON Branch or Division

• Purpose : In order to vitalize the KUKKIWON Poom·Dan Promotion Test project and to improve the value of the Poom·Dan certificates through formulating the Taekwondo Poom·Dan Promotion Test system.• Direction: Plan to move forward step by step to stabilize the KUKKIWON target business, including Taekwondo Poom·Dan Promotion Test.

1) Adjustment of delegated authority for Poom·Dan Promotion Test.The current Poom·Dan Promotion Test delegated authority will be deferred until the 15.06.30. Likewise, the KUKKIWON will delegate the authority from the 3rd to 7th Dan promotion test to the appointed National Associations OR Organizations which established the KUKKIWON Branch/Division, or which signed the MOU with the KUKKIWON since 2015.07.012) Adjustment of Poom·Dan Promotion Test feeThe Poom·Dan Promotion Test fee will be changed from GDP basis to GNI basis, and it will be divided into 3 levels starting at January 2017.

2. Formulate the KUKKIWONTaekwondo Poom·DanPromotion Test System

• Purpose : In order to vitalize the martial art Taekwondo through standardization of the existing martial art competitions and promote to the World Taekwondo Headquarters, KUKKIWON competition.• Direction : Settle the KUKKIWON Martial art Taekwondo competition by distributing the competition manual and expand the support.

1) Distribution of the existing martial art Taekwondo competition manual - KUKKIWON Cup/ Taekwondo Hanmadang competition manual development and disseminatotion2) Support martial art Taekwondo competition- Taekwondo Hanmadang competition : support US$50,000~$100,000 depending on the scale of Regional/national competition.- KUKKIWON Cup competition : support US$5,000~$50,000 depending on the scale of national competition KUKKIWON since 2015.07.01.

4. Increase the support of Regional & National KUKKIWON Taekwondo competition

• Purpose : In order to vitalize the KUKKIWON target business by expanding Education & Training through building the education/training system.• Direction : Plan to invigorate international Do-Jangs and improve ability for masters through mitigation of qualification for Foreign trainees and customized training.
