    Once covering an area of 5 km2 (1.93 sq mi) of one of the last remnants of tropical dr evergreen

    forest of the !oromandel !oast" #$ind %ark &as originall a game reserve. 'n the earl 1*s" a

    garden space &as carved o$t of the #$ind forest and a residence called the Guindy Lodge &as

    +$ilt + #overnor ,illiam -anghorne (121/)" &hich had helped make 0t homas o$nt a

    sal$+rio$s place for rest and recreation. he remaining of the forest area &as o&ned + a ritish

    citi4en named #il+ert odericks from &hom it &as p$rchased + the government in 1/21 for a s$m

    of 35"***. he original area of 5*5 ha &as esta+lished as a eserve 6orest in

    191*. !hital (spotted deer) &ere introd$ced into the park pro+a+l after 1975. et&een 191 and

    19" a+o$t 12 ha of the forest" primaril from the a8 havan" &as transferred to vario$s
