History of Android Editions Since the year 2008, Android has issued a number of 39 updated editions and 18 API stages, which are highly commercially. Here we have described the chief landmarks. 1) Android 1.0 This android mobile was released in the year 2008. This version was made public as the most admired Smartphone operating system. It included the features like camera, Gmail App and sync, Google Maps, IM, SMS and MMS, Media Player, Custom Notifications and Wallpapers, Voice Dialer, YouTube Player, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support. As it was the first android device, it also consisted of Android Market which permits applications download and updates via the Market App. 2) Android 1.5 Cupcake This Android Smart Phone was launched on 30 April 2009. It was supported by Linux kernel 2.6.27. The version consists of more updated features and several other UI changes. It has Support for Widgets which comprise of small application views that can  be entrenched in other applications and can receive episo dic information. Other up to date features include soft keyboard with text prediction, video recording, copy/paste in  browser, animated screen options, auto-r otation, stock boot animation, video and photo uploading to YouTube and Picasa. 3) Android 1.6 Donut This Android Smart Phone was released on 15 September, 2009. This phone was based on slightly changed version of Linux kernel 2.6.29. This version consists of Quick Search Box which allows the searching of various voice and text entries. It also has gallery, camera, and camcorder integration. It also gives the option to search for app screenshots in the Android Market. Users can also select multiple photos at a time for deletion. The Smart Phone also provides support for upgraded technologies of CDMA/EVDO, 802.1x, VPNs and WVGA screen resolutions. The phone is also known for its high speed and also had New Gesture Builder dev tool and New framework APIs. 4) Android 2.0 Éclair This Android version was made public on 26 October, 2009. It is based on the same version of Linux as the previous version but the updated changes include Multiple Accounts which can help the synchronization of e-mail and other contacts, e-mail and contact sync, exchange support for e-mails, more quicker contacts, Bluetooth 2.1, searching facility for saved SMS and MMS, Live Wallpapers, Latest Camera features, Browser support for HTML 5, better and new Framework for APIs, optimization for hardware speed and an option to change the screen size and resolutions. 5) Android 2.2 Froyo This version has Android Cloud to Device Messaging (C2DM), portable Wi-Fi, enhanced Bluetooth, numeric password support, Adobe Flash, shortcuts on Home screen, PPI screen, Multiple languages for keyboard, Car and Night mode UI frameworks. It also has Chrome V8 JS engine in the browser. 6) Android 2.3 Gingerbread This version was made public on 6 December, 2010. It has more upgraded features such as Near Field Communication, give more good control over the apps, multiple cameras, XL size screen and resolutions, mixable audio, native input and sensor events, SIP based inter telephony, Download manager, WebM/VP8 video playback support, AAC Audio,

1)  Android 1.0

7)  Android 3.0 Honey CombThe Android edition was launched on 22 February, 2011. It was the first Android tabletand the features include new virtual and holographic UI, Added system bar, added action

8)  Android 4.0 Ice cream SandwichThis Smartphone was released on 19 October, 2011. The features were updated Appsmulti tasking, Android beam for NFC, Apps accessible from lock screen, drag and dropfolder creation, resizable widgets, screenshots capture, real time speech to text dictation,face unlock, google chrome, data warnings for users, Shut down Apps in background,Built in Photo editor, WebP image support, Wi Fi direct, platform for phones and table,swipe to dismiss notifications.

9)  Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

This android version was launched on 27 June 2012. It has a smoother user interface withGoogle new search app, (GCM), Vsync timing, triple buffering in graphics pipeline,synchronization and anticipatory touch, multiple language support, key maps, expandablenotifications, android beam with Bluetooth data transfer, offline voice dictation,multichannel usb audio, gapless playback, lockscreen widgets, multi user and multiscreen support.
