Dock At Port Under Attack

Councilman Joe Yesenski at-. tacked the 600-foot extension of the dock at the ~ort of Anchor­age Wednesday night, charging that pilings are being installed crookedly and the design is. not ' consist with the old dock. ·

"There's a great difference in · the type of construction," he said. "I think the whole dock should be redesigned so it will match." .

Yesenski admitted that the de­sign might be practical, but he , said it is not aesthetically pleas­in~ '

Wallace Martens, chairman of the Port O,mmission, defended the construction of the dock and j pointed out that the plans were approved in advance by the I Port Commission and the City Council. ; ·

He said a less fancy structur'e was approved to obtain 600 feet of badly needed dock space~1 rather than the 450 feet tha( had been considered. He point! ! ed out also that a consulting engineer is "on the job at all 1 times" to detect any defects, ! such as croo~·ngs.
