Alexander Campbell, tavern keeper about 1765. John Freeman, Schermerhorn keeper of a tavern in 1801. 8 June 1709 - William Appel petitions for license to sell drink without paying excise; granted by reason of his wound and incapacity to support his family. Schenectady Coffee House 1814 sold by Esther and Robert Hudson to Reuben Givens. One, Rogers, kept this Coffee House about 1805. This Tavern was owned by Harmanus A. Vedder in 1817, then sold by him to Albert A and Nicholas Vedder. Pearson Note: “for license permits by Mayer J C Yates 1798-1807 see his little book.” 1785 - Reuben Simonds kept public house in Church St. w/ side on lot now (1865) occupied by Mr. Crane. At his house the meetings of the Academy Trustees and Consistory while discussing the organization of Academy were held. His house was burned at the time Burr was building the Mohawk Bridge (1807?). His carpenters gave 1 days‟ work towards rebuilding it and the house was framed, raised and boarded in one day and Simonds moved in the next day.
