Thehistory ofAlbaniaemerges fromprehistoric stage3000 BC, with early records ofIllyriainGreco-Roman historiography. The modern territory of Albania has no counterpart in antiquity, comprising parts of the Roman provinces ofDalmatia(southernIllyricum),Macedonia(particularlyEpirus Nova), andMoesia Superior. The territory remained under Roman (Byzantine) control until theSlavic migrationsof the 7th century, and was integrated into theBulgarian Empirein the 9th century.The territorial nucleus of the Albanian state formed in the Middle Ages, as thePrincipality of Arbrand the Sicilian dependency known as theKingdom of Albania. After the collapse of the Axis powers, Albania became a communist state, theSocialist People's Republic of Albania, which for most of its duration was dominated byEnver Hoxha(died 1985). Hoxha's political heirRamiz Aliaoversaw the disintegration of the "Hoxhaist" state during the wider collapse of theEastern Blocin the later 1980s.The communist regime collapsed in 1990, and the former communistParty of Labour of Albaniawas routed in elections in March 1992, amid economic collapse and social unrest. The Paeolithic finds of Albania show great similarities with objects of the same era found at Crvena Stijena inMontenegroand north-westernGreece.[2]During the Bronze Age, several artifacts fromtumulusburials have been unearthed in central and southern Albania, showing close connection with sites in southwesternMacedoniaandLefkada,Greece. Archeologists have come to the conclusion that from the middle of the third millennium BC, these regions were inhabited byIndo-Europeanpeople who spoke anearly form of Greek. A part of them later moved toMycenaearound 1600 BC and founded theMycenaean civilisationthere.[3][4][5]On the other hand the Illirii, probably the southernmost Illyrian tribe of that time[6]that lived on the border of Albania andMontenegro, were possibly neighboring with the Greek tribes.[6][7]In the late Bronze Age and early Iron Age a number of possible population movements occurred, with theBrygesbeing settled in areas of southern Albania-northwestern Greece[8]andIllyriantribes moved into central Albania.[5]The later derive from early Indo-European presence in westernBalkan Peninsula. Their formation can be assumed to coincide with the beginning Iron Age in the Balkans, during the early 1st millennium BC.[9]Archaeologists associate the Illyrians with theHallstatt culture, anIron Agepeople noted for production of iron, bronze swords with winged-shaped handles, and domestication of horses. It is impossible to delineateIllyrian tribesfromPaleo-Balkansin a strict linguistic sense, but areas classically included under "Illyrian" for the Balkans Iron Age include the area of theDanube,Sava, andMoravarivers to theAdriatic Seaand theShar Mountains.[10]Antiquity[edit]

The territory the tribes covered came to be known asIllyriatoHellenisticandRomanauthors, corresponding roughly to the area between Adriatic sea in west,Dravariver in North,Moravariver in east and the mouth ofVjosriver in south.[11][12]The first account of Illyrian peoples comes fromPeriplusor Coastal passage an ancient Greek text of the middle of the 4th century BC.[13]The Illyrian tribes that resided in the region of modern Albania were theTaulantiiin central Albania[14]theParthini, theAbriand theCaviiiin the north, theEncheleiin the east,[15]theByllionesin the south andseveral others. In the westernmost parts of the territory of Albania along with the Illyrian tribes lived theBryges,[16]aPhrygianpeople, and in the south[17][18]lived the Greek tribe of theChaonians.[16][19][20]In the 4th century BC, the Illyrian kingBardyllisunited several Illyrian tribes and engaged in conflict withMacedonto the southeast, but was defeated. Bardyllis was succeeded byGrabos,[21]then byBardyllis II,[22]and then byCleitus the Illyrian,[22]who was defeated byAlexander the Great. Later on, in 229 BC, QueenTeuta[23]of theArdiaeiclashed with the Romans and initiated theIllyrian Wars, which resulted in defeat and in the end of Illyrian independence by 168 BC, when KingGentiuswas defeated by a Roman army.Greeks[edit]Beginning in the 7th century BC, Greek colonies were established on the Illyrian coast. The most important wereApollonia,Avlona(modern-dayVlor),Epidamnos(modern-dayDurrs), andLissus(modern-dayLezh). The rediscovered Greek city ofButhrotum(AncientGreek:,Vouthrotn) (modern-day Butrint), aUNESCO World Heritage Site, is probably more significant today than it was whenJulius Caesarused it as a provisions depot for his troops during his campaigns in the 1st century BC. At that time, it was considered an unimportant outpost, overshadowed by Apollonia and Epidamnos.[24]Roman Era[edit]

By 395 AD dioceses in which the region was divided were theDiocese of Dacia(as Pravealitana), and theDiocese of Macedonia(as Epirus Nova). Most of the region of modern Albania corresponds to theEpirus Nova.Christianization[edit]Christianity came toEpirus nova, then part of the Roman province ofMacedonia.[27]Since the 1st and 2nd century AD, Christianity had become the established religion inByzantium, supplanting pagan polytheism and eclipsing for the most part the humanistic world outlook and institutions inherited from the Greek and Roman civilizations. TheDurrs Amphitheatreis a historic monument from the time period that was used to preach Christianity to civilians during that time.When the Roman Empire was divided into eastern and western halves in AD 395, Illyria east of the Drinus River (Drinabetween Bosnia and Serbia), including the lands that now form Albania, were administered by the Eastern Empire but were ecclesiastically dependent on Rome. Though the country was in the fold of Byzantium, Christians in the region remained under the jurisdiction of the Roman pope until 732. In that year the iconoclast Byzantine emperorLeo III, angered by archbishops of the region because they had supported Rome in theIconoclastic Controversy, detached the church of the province from the Roman pope and placed it under thepatriarch of Constantinople.When theChristian church split in 1054 between Eastern Orthodoxy and Catholicism, the region of southern Albania retained its ties toConstantinople, while the north reverted to the jurisdiction of Rome. This split marked the first significant religious fragmentation of the country.After the formation of the Slav principality of Dioclia (modern Montenegro), the metropolitan see of Bar was created in 1089, and dioceses in northern Albania (Shkodr, Ulcinj) became its suffragans. Starting in 1019, Albanian dioceses of the Byzantine rite were suffragans of the independent Archdiocese of Ohrid until Dyrrachion and Nicopolis, were re-established as metropolitan sees. Thereafter, only the dioceses in inner Albania (Elbasan, Kruj) remained attached to Ohrid. Later it was part of provinces of theByzantine empirecalledThemes.When theRoman Empirewas divided into East and West in 395, the territories of modern Albania became part of theByzantine Empire. Beginning in the first decades of Byzantine rule (until 461), the region suffered devastating raids byVisigoths,Huns, andOstrogoths. In the 6th and 7th centuries, the region experienced an influx ofSlavs.The new administrative system of the themes, or military provinces created by theByzantine Empire, contributed to the eventual rise of feudalism in Albania, as peasant soldiers who served military lords became serfs on their landed estates. Among the leading families of the Albanian feudal nobility were theBalsha,Thopia,Shpata,Muzaka,DukagjiniandKastrioti. The first three of these rose later to become rulers of principalities during the years 1355-1400. Many Albanians converted to the Roman CatholicChurchat that period.In the first decades under Byzantine rule (until 461),Epirus novasuffered the devastation of raids byVisigoths,Huns, andOstrogoths. Not long after these barbarian invaders swept through the Balkans, theSlavsappeared. Between the 6th and 8th centuries they settled in Roman territories. In the 4th century, barbarian tribes began to prey upon the Roman Empire. TheGermanic Gothsand AsiaticHunswere the first to arrive, invading in mid-century; theAvarsattacked in AD 570; and theWhite Croatiantribes invaded in the early 7th century. The area, known asKutmichevitsa, became an important Bulgarian cultural center in 10th century with many thriving towns such asDevol, Glavinitsa (Ballsh) and Belgrad (Berat). When the Byzantines managed to conquer the First Bulgarian Empire the fortresses in eastern Albania were some of the last Bulgarian strongholds to be submitted by the Byzantines. Later the region was recovered by theSecond Bulgarian Empire.In theMiddle Ages, the nameArberia(seeOrigin and history of the name Albania) began to be increasingly applied to the region now comprising the nation of Albania. The first undisputed mention of Albanians in the historical record is attested in Byzantine source for the first time in 10791080, in a work titledHistoryby Byzantine historianMichael Attaliates, who referred to theAlbanoias having taken part in a revolt againstConstantinoplein 1043 and to theArbanitaias subjects of the duke ofDyrrachium. A later reference to Albanians from the same Attaliates, regarding the participation of Albanians in a rebellion around 1078, is undisputed.[31]It was in 1190, when a local Albanian noble calledProgoncreated thePrincipality of Arbr, with its capital atKruj. After the fall ofProgon Dynastyin 1216, the principality came underGrigor KamonaandGulam of Albania. The southern part was governed by the semi-independent, Serbian ruledDespotate of Epiros.Along with the Serbian ruled Albania, there was also thePrincipality of Arbr, and later the AngevinKingdom of Albania. On the conquered part of Albania, which territory stretched betweenMat Riveron the north andameriato the south, Ottoman Empire established theSanjak of Albania[32]and in 1419Gjirokastrabecame thecounty townof the Sanjak of Albania.[33]Beginning in the late-14th century, the Ottomans expanded their empire fromAnatoliato theBalkans(Rumelia).By the 15th century, the Ottomans ruled most of the Balkan Peninsula. Their advance inAlbaniawas interrupted in the 15th century, whenGeorge Kastrioti Skanderbeg, the Albanian national hero who had served as an Ottoman military officer, renounced Ottoman service, allied with some Albanian chiefs forming theLeague of Lezhand fought off successfully Turkish rule from 14431468 upon his death. Three major attacks (Siege of Kruj (1450),Second Siege of Kruj(146667),Third Siege of Kruj(1467)) suffered Albania during this period from major armies led by the greatOttomansultans themselves,Murad IIandMehmed IIThe Conqueror. Albania was almost fully re-occupied by theOttomansin 1479 after capturingShkodrfrom Venice. Albania's conquest by Ottomans was completed afterDurrs's capture from Venice in 1501.Ottoman-Albanian wars[edit]Many Albanians had been recruited into theJanissary, including the feudal heirGeorge Kastriotiwho was renamedSkanderbeg(Iskandar Bey) by his Turkish trainers atEdirne. After some Ottoman defeats at the hands of theHungarians, Skanderbeg deserted on November 1443 and began a rebellion against theOttoman Empire.[34]After deserting,Skanderbegre-converted to Roman Catholicism and declared war against the Ottoman Empire,[34]which he led from 1443 to 1468. Under a red flag bearing Skanderbeg's heraldic emblem, an Albanian force held off Ottoman campaigns for twenty-five years and overcamesieges of Krujled by major forces of the Ottoman sultansMurad IIandMehmed II.However, Skanderbeg was unable to receive any of the help which had been promised him by the popes or the Italian states, Venice, Naples and Milan. He died in 1468, leaving no worthy successor. After his death the rebellion continued, but without its former success. The loyalties and alliances created and nurtured by Skanderbeg faltered and fell apart and the Ottomans reconquered the territory of Albania, culminating with thesiege of Shkodrain 1479. Shortly after the fall of the castles of northern Albania, many Albanians fled to neighboring Italy, giving rise to the modernArbreshcommunities.Late Ottoman period[edit]

JanissaryMuskets.Upon theOttomans' return in 1479, a large number ofAlbaniansfled to Italy,Egyptand other parts of the Ottoman Empire and Europe and maintained theirArbreshidentity. Many Albanians won fame and fortune as soldiers, administrators, and merchants in far-flung parts of the Empire. As the centuries passed, however, Ottoman rulers lost the capacity to command the loyalty of localpashas, which threatened stability in the region. TheOttomanrulers of the 19th century struggled to shore up central authority, introducing reforms aimed at harnessing unruly pashas and checking the spread of nationalist ideas.Albaniawould be a part of theOttoman Empireuntil the early 20th century.The Ottoman period that followed was characterized by a change in the landscape through a gradual modification of the settlements with the introduction ofbazaars, military garrisons and mosques in many Albanian regions. Part of the Albanian population gradually converted to Islam, with many joining theSufiOrder of theBektashi. Converting from Christianity to Islam brought considerable advantages, including access to Ottoman trade networks, bureaucratic positions and the army. As a result many Albanians came to serve in the eliteJanissaryand the administrativeDevirmesystem. Among these were important historical figures, includingIljaz Hoxha,Hamza Kastrioti,Koca Davud Pasha,Zaanos Pasha,Kprl Mehmed Pasha(head of theKprl familyofGrand Viziers), theBushatifamily,Sulejman Pasha,Edhem Pasha,Nezim Frakulla,Ali Pashaof Tepelena,Haxhi Shekreti,Hasan Zyko Kamberi,Ali Pasha of Gucia,Mehmet Aliruler ofEgypt[35]andEmin Pasha[citation needed].Many Albanians gained prominent positions in the Ottoman government, Albanians highly active during theOttoman eraand leaders such asAli Pashaof Tepelena might have aidedHusein Gradaevi. The Albanians proved generally faithful to Ottoman rule following the end of the resistance led by Skanderbeg, and accepted Islam more easily than their neighbors.[36]No fewer than 42Grand Viziersof the Empire were of Albanian descent. The Ottoman period also saw the rising of semi-autonomousAlbanian ruled Pashaliksand Albanians were also an important part of the Ottoman army and Ottoman administration like the case ofKprl family. Albania would remain a part of the Ottoman Empire as the provinces ofScutari,MonastirandJaninauntil 1912.Birth of nationalism[edit]

The image of the "Turkish yoke" had become fixed in the nationalist mythologies and psyches of the empire's Balkan peoples, and their march toward independence quickened. TheAlbanians, because of the higher degree of Islamic influence, their internal social divisions, and the fear that they would lose their Albanian-populated lands to the emerging Balkan statesSerbia, Montenegro,Bulgaria, andGreecewere the last of the Balkan peoples to desire division from the Ottoman Empire.[37]However, in the 19th century after the fall of theAlbanian pashaliksand theMassacre of the Albanian BeysanAlbanian National Awakeningtook place and many revolts against the Ottoman Empire were organized. Such revolts included theAlbanian Revolts of 1833-1839, theRevolt of 184344, and theRevolt of 1847. A culmination of the Albanian National Awakening were theLeague of Prizren(18781881, with the backing of sultanAbdulhamid II) and theLeague of Peja, but they were unsuccessful to an Albanian independence, which occurred only in 1912, through theAlbanian Declaration of Independence.Independence of Albania (1912)[edit]Main articles:Albania during the Balkan Wars,Albanian Declaration of Independence, andProvisional Government of AlbaniaFurther information:Independent Albania,Occupation of Albania (19121913),andTreaty of London (1913)The initial sparks of the firstBalkan War in 1912were ignited by theAlbanian uprising between 1908 and 1910[38]which had the aim of opposing theYoung Turkpolicies of consolidation of the Ottoman Empire. Following the eventual weakening of the Ottoman Empire in the Balkans,Serbia, Greece andBulgariadeclared war and sought to aggrandize their respective boundaries on the remaining territories of the Empire. The territory of what is now Albania was invaded by Serbia in the north and Greece in the south, restricting the country to only a patch of land around the southern coastal city ofVlora. The uprisings of 19101912, and the Montenegrin, Serbian, and Greek invasion of Albania, led to the proclamation of independence byIsmail QemaliinVlora, on 28 November 1912. The independence was recognized by theConference of Londonon 29 July 1913.[39][40]The border between Albania and its neighbors was delineated in 1913 following the decision by the Ambassadors at theConference of London. The delineation of the new state's borders left more than half of Albanian communities outside Albania. This population was largely divided betweenMontenegroandSerbiain the north(which then included what is nowKosovoand theRepublic of Macedonia), andGreecein the south. A substantial number of Albanians thus found themselves under Serbian rule.At the same time, an uprising in the country's south by local Greeks, led to the formation of theAutonomous Republic of Northern Epirusin the southern provinces (1914).[41]The republic proved short-lived as Albania collapsed with the onset ofWorld War I. Greece held the area between 1914 and 1916, and unsuccessfully tried to annex it in March 1916;[41]however in 1917 the Greeks were driven from the area by Italy, which took over most of Albania.[42]TheParis Peace Conference of 1919awarded the area to Greece. However the area definitively reverted to Albanian control in November 1921, following Greece's defeat in theGreco-Turkish War.[43]Principality of Albania[edit]Main article:Principality of AlbaniaIn supporting the independence of Albania, the Great Powers were assisted byAubrey Herbert, a BritishMPwho passionately advocated the Albanian cause in London. As a result, Herbert was offered the crown of Albania, but was dissuaded by the British Prime Minister,H. H. Asquith, from accepting. Instead the offer went toWilliam of Wied, a German prince who accepted and became sovereign of the newPrincipality of Albania.[44]ThePrincipalitywas established on 21 February 1914. The Great Powers selectedPrince William of Wied, a nephew ofQueen Elisabeth of Romaniato become the sovereign of the newly independent Albania. A formal offer was made by 18 Albanian delegates representing the 18 districts of Albania on 21 February 1914, an offer which he accepted. Outside of Albania William was styled prince, but in Albania he was referred to asMbret(King) so as not to seem inferior to theKing of Montenegro.Prince William arrived in Albania at his provisional capital ofDurrson 7 March 1914 along with the Royal family. The security of Albania was to be provided by aGendarmeriecommanded by Dutch officers.

Etnonimi arbr - shqiptarEMRI KOMBTAR SHQIPTAR N STUDIMET E PROFESOR ABEJTGjat ksaj kohe, dmth, gjat kalimit nga antika n mesjet, sikur dihet prve frkimeve q kan pasur me fqinjt, prve ndeshjeve kulturore, fetare etj., u zhvilluan edhe disa procese t brendshme, t qndrueshme pr organizimin e mvonshm t arbrorve prball sfidave t kohs. Ktu mund t prmendim: formimin e gjuhs shqipe prpara dyndjes s sllavve, prhapjen e krishtrimit, organizimin kur m i dobt e kur m i fort t fiseve n shkall krahine, organizimin kulturor etj.

1. Interesimi i abejt

Problemi i prejardhjes s etnonimit arbr-shqiptar dhe emrit t vendit t tyre Arbri-Shqipri i ka nxitur shum studiues q t merren me hulumtimin e tij n aspektin interdisiplinar. shtja e studimit t ktij problemi lidhet me vet rrjedhn e studimeve albanologjike n prgjithsi dhe onomastikn n veanti. Filozoft, historiant, arkeologt, etnograft - etnologt, gjuhtart ( indoevropeistt, ballkanologt, albanologt, helenistt, sllavistt, germanistt, romanistt, ilirologt, trakologt, trako-ilirologt, pellazgologt, etruskologt etj., ), problemin e prejardhjes s etnonimit arbr, arbror, arbnuer, arbnesh, arbresh, shqiptar; emrin e vendit Arbni, Arbri, Shqipr; t gjuhs, arbrisht, arbnisht, shqip, ilirisht, pellazgjisht, etruskisht etj., e kan trajtuar sipas shkollave t dryshme, metodave e domeneve t ndryshme, nga aspekti diakronik e sinkronik, nga aspekti historik, material e shpirtror, etnologjik, fonetik, gramatikor, etimologjik e sociologjik, por edhe pse deri m tash jan dhn rezultate t shumta, nga disa aspekte edhe m tutje ka mosknaqsi e mospajtime mes studiuesve t ndryshm. Eqrem abej, etnonimin arbr/shqiptar ose si shprehej ai: emrat e vjetr nacional, emrat nacional, emri i popullit, dhe toponimin Arbr/ Shqipri, i ka trajtuar n nj thellsi, pothuajse shteruese shkencore, duke pasur parasysh studimet dhe rezultatet e arritura deri n kohn e tij dhe zbulimet arkivore t vjela nga ai ose paraardhsit e tij. Eqrem abej problemin n fjal e ka trajtuar n disa artikuj, n t cilt trajtonte probleme t ndryshme e domos problemin e vendit t formimit t popullit shqiptar e t gjuhs shqipe, dhe n artikuj t veant.

2. Horizonti historik dhe hapsira gjeografike Qkur studiuesit (historiant, gjuhtart, arkeologt e etnologt) lexuan n hartn e Ptolemeut t shekullit t II pas ers son emrin e fisit Albanoi dhe t qytetit Albanopolis, nuk pushuan s hulumtuari ]shtjen e afris s ktij emri me emrin etnik t vet arbrorve -shqiptarve dhe t vendit t tyre, Shqipris. Mirpo, shtja has n vshtirsi q n fillim. Pas daljes s emrit t fisit Albanoi dhe t qytetit Albanopolis, ky emr, n njrn an, tretet n dokumentet historike pr m se 2000 vjet, si thot abej dhe nuk ndeshet as n dokumentet e brendshme kombtare, as n dokumentet e kohs te fqinjt, pavarsisht se nj popull, si populli arbror nuk mund t qndronte aq indiferent n rrjedhat historike, ndrsa n ann tjetr rrnja alb- sht nj element, i cili prfshin nj zon t gjer gjeografike, jo vetm t zons etnike shqiptare e ballkanike por edhe evropiane. Studiuesi Antonio Galanti, duke u marr me kt rrnj shkruan: Britania e vjetr u quajt edhe Albion. Malsort e Skocis e thrrasin vendin e tyre Albany. Emri Alba gjendet shpesh nItalin e Vjetr (Alba-Longa n Lac, Alba Fucense n vendin e Marsejvet, Alba Pompeja,...). Edhe n Galin e mome e n Spanjn e Vjetr takojm emrin Alba. T gjith e kan ndigjuem emrin e qytetit Albi n Provenc, prej kah mueren emrin e vet heretikt albigez n shek. XIII (...) Rndsi m t madhe prkundrazi ka hipotheza se gati t gjith, a gati t gjith kta emra qesin ndr mend rranjen alb a alp q do me than i bardh e mal i lart (prej majes s bardh t mbulueme me bor). Mahir Domi nuk flet pr mnyrn se si sht bartur emri, por flet vetm pr vijimsin, nj element me rndsi pr prejardhjen e popullit shqiptar e t gjuhs shqipe nga ilirt, kur shkruan: vijimsia iliro-shqiptare q del n lidhjen e emrit kombtar t shqiptarve n mesjet (n burimet bizantine t shek. XI-XII e m pas Albanoi, Arvaniti, vendi Arbanon n burimet latine Albanenses/Arbanenses, n shqipe arbn/arbr, arbnesh/arbresh, arbnor/arbror), me emrin Albanoi t nj fisi afr Durrsit. Si Eqrem abej ashtu edhe Shaban Demiraj, m von, pyetje pr vijimsin e etnonimit arbr npr dokumente, u jan prgjigjur me mnyrn e jetess s popullit shqiptar (n fise dhe n nj homogjenitet t pamjaftueshm pr t shtrir dhe mbajtur gjall nj emr etnik t prbashkt. Duke u nisur nga kjo gjendje, sidomos nga pozita e abejt, historiani Muhamet Pirraku, konstaton se Mendimi i ngulitur n literatur se emrat Arben/Arbr, Arbnesh/Arbresh ishin Emri i Shqipris e i shqiptarve n mesjet, pr mendimin ton, nuk ka mbshtetje n faktologji dhe n realitetin mesjetar. Vendi dhe populli i coptuar n disa perandori e principata dhe n disa fe, n mesjet, nuk mund t mbante emr t njjt pr popullin dhe pr vendin. Mendimi i Mahir Domit del prball disa studiuesish, si ai grek Eras L. Vranusi, i cili n vitin 1970, e kishte vn n dyshim nj lidhje t domosdoshme, n mos m shum pr nj ngjashmri t rastit, ndrmjet albanoit dhe arbri dhe studiuesit serb Bari, i cili m hert e kishte lkundur sikur shprehej ai: kontinuitetin e emrit t vjetr ilir Albanoi me emrin e arbrve t sotm. Ai mendonte se ky kontinuitet nuk ka ndonj domethnie ma t madhe, sepse t part e tyre kan muejt me e trashgue kt emr prej banorve t vjetr ilirjan natdheun e tyre t ri, poashtu sikur sipas rezultateve t shkencs bashkkohore edhe Albanoit ilirijan kt emr e kan trashguar prej popullsis s lasht joindoevropiane, dmth., prej popullsis mediterane, pr t ciln gja dshmojn toponimet e shumta, t nxjerra prej fjals mediterane alb- kodr, vend i ngritur, n t gjith zonn e shtrime prej Kaukazi deri n Liguri dhe n gadishullin Iberik Ndryshe nga abej, Demiraj e studiues t tjer dhe sidomos M. Pirraku, q e vejn n dyshim nj emr t mundshm pr tr popullin, Osman Myderrizi homogjenitetin e mundshm e gjen te rreziku nga ndrhyrjet e sllavve n mesjet: Kundrshtimi e frkimi i pandam me kta t huaj (sllavt-B.B.) zgjoi ndjenjn e solidarsis etnike ndr fise t ndryshme ilire tEpirit, t Maqedonis e tIliris e si konsekuenc duel edhe pranimi i nj emri t prbashkt, pr tu paraqitur si nj fuqi e bashkueme kundra tyre. Kshtu emri Arbn, tue qen emni i nj krahine t njohun, t fort e t prparueme, u pranua vetm si nj emblem bashkimi pr t gjitha krahinat e tjera dhe me koh u b emn kombtar Nuk duhet prjashtuar faktin q, nse arbrort ishin ndihms t fisit t avarve, ata n t vrtet u prhapn n t gjitha zonat e etnicitetit iliro-shqiptar dhe n kt mnyr u bn trashgues t ktyre zotimeve, por q identifikimi i tyre n literatur u b i njohur vetm pas shek. VII, kur u ndeshn me fillimin e deprtimeve t sllavve n Ballkan dhe rrezikun q u kanosej. Mendoj se mendimeve t msiprme m s miri u prjigjet historiani shqiptar Kasem Bioku, i cili mendon se shkak i paraqitjes s von t emrit Arbri, deri n shek. XI-XII, kur edhe fillon dobsimi dhe rnia e Perandoris Bizantine, sht praktika administrative, kancellareske e kishtare e shtetit bizantin pr t prdorur elemente t tradits antike, si: Ilir, Epir, Maqedoni etj. Prhapja, ose m mir t themi, stabilizimi i etnonimit arbr gjat kohs romake u b edhe pr shkaqe t ndikimit ekonomik e kulturor. Rruga Via Egnatia dhe roli i saj n Shqiprin e mesme ishte i fuqishm, prandaj nuk sht e uditshme q pikrisht kjo zon do t bhet vatra kryesore, nga e cila rrezaton m s shumti emri i arbrit edhe ather kur emri arbr n shkall kombtare do t ket m shum karakter metaforik(libror) sesa nacional. Mendimi i Biokut gjithashtu t kujton nj emrtes t dyfisht t emrit t Dardanis nga administrata romake, si Pirustae dhe popullata vendase Dardani. Po kjo shpjegohet edhe me nj element t rndsishm q e shnon Kasem Bioku: Shkrimtart e vjetr shqiptar e t huaj fjalt Epir e epirot i kan prdorur si sinonime t emrave arbr e arbn, kurse banort vends t Epirit(Shqipris s Poshtme) gjat shekujve t mesjets nuk e kan prdorur e njohur. Bie fjala, Maqedonia, si emr m i vjetr dhe Arbria si emr mesjetar, cilsohen si pjes t njra-tjetrs dhe kta dy emra dalin si sinonime. Gjat ksaj kohe, dmth, gjat kalimit nga antika n mesjet, sikur dihet prve frkimeve q kan pasur me fqinjt, prve ndeshjeve kulturore, fetare etj., u zhvilluan edhe disa procese t brendshme, t qndrueshme pr organizimin e mvonshm t arbrorve prball sfidave t kohs. Ktu mund t prmendim: formimin e gjuhs shqipe prpara dyndjes s sllavve, prhapjen e krishtrimit, organizimin kur m i dobt e kur m i fort t fiseve n shkall krahine, organizimin kulturor etj. Kasem Bioku, pr t njjtn period, ka dalluar edhe nj element t rndsishm pr temn ton, emrat personal. Sipas tij edhe pse me prhapjen e kristianizmit-emrat personal erdhn n pjesn m t madhe nga emrat e bots s krishter, duke iu prshtatur gjuhs shqipe, ata morn tiparet e nj antroponimie kombtare shqiptare. Kshtu gjat shekujve t mesjets u formua nj unitet antroponimik relativ te shqiptart kudo q ata banonin. N kto kushte, si dhe n konfrontim e bashkjetes me popujt ardhs pagan, q u dyndn dhe u vendosen n Ballkan dhe pr tu dalluar dhe veuar nga ta, jo m von se n kt periudh ndryshimesh t vrullshme etnike, emri arbr (Arbri, Albani) u b emr i prbashkt pr shqiptart. Mendimin e Henrik Bariit, q n t vrtet sht vetm nj vazhdim i mendimit t Norbert Joklit, Trombettit, Bertoldit, Taliavinit, Hubsehmmidi-tit, Popoviit etj., t cilt mendonin se rrnja alb-, arb- etj., duhej t ishte e trashgimis paraindoevropiane, e kan kundrshtuar Kasem Bioku dhe Eqrem abej. Bioku mendon me t drejt se emri Arbr (Arbri, Albani) sht trashguar nga onomastika ilire dhe abej, i cili nxori nj prfundim pr nj shtje kardinale pr gjuhn shqipe dhe historin e popullit shqiptar: Prej ktij emri rrjedhin rregullisht Arben, Arbr i shqipes, nj dshmi ndr t tjera, q shqiptart jan anas, autokton n vendbanimet e sotme dhe q aty ka nj vijimsi, nj konfirmitet gjuhe t paktn prej antikitetit.3. Shtrirja gjeografike

Prej shek. XI, kur emri Arbr, Arbn, fillon t dal npr dokumente t huaja, deri n shek. XVIII kur del etnonimi shqiptar, pr studimet gjuhsore dhe historike shtja e shtrirjes gjeografike e emrit t Arbrit paraqet nj element t rndsishm. Eqrem abej e ka konsultuar nj literatur t gjer dhe ka br nj pasqyr pothuajse shteruese pr shtrirjen e etnonimit arbr dhe top. Arbri, n Shqipri e koloni, te popujt fqinj dhe n burimet dokumetare e t tradits s tyre, ndrsa sa i prket lokalizimit t qytetit t Albanopolisit t Ptolemeut n Zgrdheshin e sotm, n Juglindje t Krujes, E. abej mendon se teza e Hanit, paraq
