What is new in 16-17?This school year began with a new fresh webpage and all high school students in grades 9-12 receiving a Chromebook to access their electronic textbooks, media databases, conduct research, and interact with teachers on the web.  Several research studies have reported that students receiving laptops demonstrate superior writing skills, improve literacy skills, and dramatically increase engagement in the classroom.

The elementary IPad implementation will continue in kindergarten and be expanded into grade 1.  Now our kindergarten and first grade students will utilize IPads. This tool will provide a new way to deliver differentiated reading and mathematics instruction. This technologically advanced tool will provide new early learners with engaging online programs and applications to go beyond simple paper and pencil practice techniques.  In addition, the interactive device will promote literacy, mathematics, and 21st century technology skills of the teacher and students.

The following new items were made possible through Trinity receiving over $200,000 in STEAM grant funding last year.

• A fabrication laboratory and broadcasting green room were added at the middle school

• A new fabrication laboratory at the high school• 3d printers, laser engravers, vinyl cutters, spindle routers, a t-

shirt press and state of the art software• Robots and drones• Programmable robot arms for the elementary science

classrooms • A makerspace and creation area was added to the high school

library• Video game programming courses at the MS & HS• FarmBot GENESIS, (https://farmbot.io/) a programmable

farming robot, will be added to Trinity High School this winter

The students and staff of West had a great time learning about nutrition with the Jump with Jill Tour. The world’s only rock & roll nutrition show Jump with Jill uses music and dance to celebrate healthy habits by transforming nutrition education into a live concert. Created by a registered dietitian and professional musician, the show uses singable anthems guaranteed to get students moving and learning about healthy habits.

Fourth grade students at Trinity South are revving up their reading by playing “reading bingo” each night at home. Students were given a reading bingo card with places to read or things to wear while reading. After reading 20 minutes or more parents are asked to sign off on the bingo space. Although, some spaces require a summary, this activity is meant to encourage students to want to read at home on their own. They just need to find their reading niche. Many students are so excited they’ve sent pictures to show where they have been reading! B I N G O!

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARDTrinity Area School District was honored to recognize five alumni during the first

Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony, held May 31, 2016 in conjunction with Senior

Awards Night. The Trinity Distinguished Alumni Award was created for a specific

purpose, “ to recognize and honor outstanding graduates of Trinity Area High School

who have excelled in their professions and/or made significant contributions to their

communities,…. and to display… to the students and to the public the accomplishments

of graduates who have distinguished themselves as role models.”

Dr. Lucas said, “This will be the first group of distinguished alumni to be celebrated at Trinity. Their picture and a plaque (shown below) will be forever displayed on our new Wall of Honor in the main foyer. A section of our district webpage will also be dedicated in their honor.”

Pictured are students who participated inTrinity South’s Produce Contest.  Each spring students are given a variety of seeds that they can grow at home over the summer break. At the beginning of each school year, the students may participate harvesting their produce and bring it to Trinity South.  Members of the Trinity High School FFA judge the produce and select the winners of each category.  The Produce contest was started at the Amity School and its founder was Chester E. Bailey, who was one of the first teachers at Amity school in 1952.  The produce was on display for Trinity South’s Open House nights.

What a great Trinity Hiller Tradition!

Trinity South’s Fifth Grade Science students worked in a group to complete the "Cup Challenge." Students attempted to make a pyramid of cups without touching the cups and used a rubber band and 4 pieces of string. They were practicing their communication skill using the GROUPS model. Students were required to Give thoughtful feedback, Respect others, On task the whole time, Use soft voices,

Participate actively and Stay with your group. Persistence was another skill we needed!

Trinity North’s first graders kicked of the new school year with an exciting Science lesson comparing a variety of soda eruptions with Mentos! Students were asked to predict which brand would have the biggest eruption after Mentos were dropped in each bottle. Along with their enthusiastic observations, students investigated and compared the reaction with the Mentos – which included providing conclusions through Collins writing. Dr. Tully joined us outside for this thought-provoking and fun “Sci-Fri” activity.
