HOW to make DELICIOUSKROLGD\UHFLSHV

‘Tis the season for tacky Christmas sweater parties, outrageous games of Dirty Santa, and twinkling lights galore. !e spirit of Christ-mas is running wild in the halls of Cullman High School as the "rst se-mester draws to a close. Visions of to-do lists dance through the heads of everyone here on campus as the hustle and bustle of the holiday sea-son consumes the time of students and teachers alike. Students receive the gi# of study guides, worksheets, and powerpoints as they tirelessly prepare for the end-of-the-semester exams in hopes of maintaining that “A” average. However, the end is in sight because only a handful of days "lled with these dreaded semester exams seperate the students from the freedom of Christmas break. Spending some much-needed time with family and friends is the de"nition of a relaxing Christmas break that comes to a close way too soon. In an e$ort to provide you with some Christmas spirit of your own, my sta$ and I have worked tirelessly to provide a jolly ole’ Christ-mas Edition for you to enjoy. Lexi Oliver has given us an informative wrap-up of "rst semester. Hadley Hall has compiled some scrumptu-ous recipes to devour this holiday season. I know you are dying to know the outcome of Hollie Bennett’s teacher who’s who student poll. Also, keep an eye out for our friend, Buddy the elf, who is hidden throughout the paper. If you circle him in every spot, come show Ms. Calahan and she will give you a Christmas surprise. !e Hilight Sta$ wishes you a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

I’m Dreaming of a DIY Christmas How to Make Your Very Own Christmas Ornaments Sarah Robinson, Staff Writer

Christmas is everyone’s favorite time of year, and what is one of the main things

we do to prepare for the big day? We decorate! So this year If you are feeling in the holiday spirit to get crafty, I have just

the thing!

Har

d

3

From popcorn string, glass balls, and angels on top, all of our Christmas trees are always

unique. Everyone has a different way of doing it, but one thing is for certain,

Christmas tree decorating is a must! So this year make yours better than ever with these

fun, DIY ornaments!

Snowman Glass Ball: 1. Buy a clear glass ball ornament 2. Take off the top (typically metal) casing 3. Fill the ornament with white string / ribbon

/ fabric 4. Put the casing back on top, make sure it is

secure 5. Use markers or paint to make a snowman

face on the front

1

Easy

Snowman Peanuts: 1. Obtain a peanut

and paint it white

2. Cut a piece of ribbon / fabric the size and texture a scarf you want

3. Find an acorn and take off the top, if this is not possible you are able to make one out of construction paper as well; if possible try to out its hat on directly you paint it so that you are able to get it to stick easily

4. Put scarf on dried acorn, and make the face of a basic snowman.

2 Medium

Ribbon Tree: 1. Cut a piece of ribbon about 19”. With a fine tip marker

made a tiny dot 2” from one end to mark a starting point. 2. Make dots along the ribbon spacing them apart at: 2 3/4”,

2 1/2”, 2 1/4”, 2”, 1 3/4”, 1 1/2”, 1 1/4” and 1”. (The spaces between get smaller by a quarter of an inch).

3. Insert your double threaded needle through the beginning dot, a beed. Then come back through the pearl bead and ribbon to secure the bottom of the tree.

4. Add another bead and go through the next dot again and again…

5. Until there are four loops on each side ending with a pearl on top. Thread through another bead and back through the pearl and ribbon to secure just like at the beginning.

6. Finally go back up through both beads again and tied a knot at about an inch or so to make a hanging loop

7. Clip the ends of the ribbons to make sure they do not fray

The Bottom Line Even if you’re not Captain Crafty, you can still manage to create a fabulous ornament!

All I Want for Christmas is...An inside look on this season’s most popular gifts to give or receive

this holiday season.Kara Jackson, Staff Writer

Yes, it is that time of year again. It’s time for Christmas shopping, whether it is for close friends and family or for yourself when you have that parent who never knows what to get. Sometimes it’s hard to decide what to buy because there is such a large variety of things from which to choose. I have searched many web sites and found some possible gifts in all price ranges for handy men, techy guys, girly girls, or that cheap, secret Santa gift.

Under $10 (Secret Santa gifts):

x An ugly Christmas themed sweater can be purchased at the Foundry for about $5.

x A cute Christmas ornament

Under $25:

x The Make-Up Brush Case + Travel Pouch is ǞŘŘǯśŖȱȱĴ¢ȱǯ

x The Skil 29-Piece Gold Oxide Metal Twist Drill Bit Set is $19.97 from Lowes.

Under $50:

x Sephora by OPI: The Tinsel Town Collector’s Set is $49.50 from Sephora. This is an exclusive limited edition.

x The iLive-App Enhanced Speakers System For IPod or iPhone is $47.49 from Sears

Under $100:

x The Glo Brilliant Personal Teeth Whitening Device is $199 from Sephora.

x The Midland XTC20SVP2720P wearable video camera is $74.96 from Wal-Mart.

You can never go wrong when you give a cute Christ-mas tree ornament to some-one.

This is a great make-up organizer.

Listen to music as loud as you want with these awe-some speakers.

Give the gift of white teeth this year.
