You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town. Your new home. Moving here just before the

start of your second year of high school has been a hassle, but you'd like to think you've shouldered the burden well. You can't remember what you were

dreaming about, but it feels eerie to be here. Almost like this life isn't yours,

or at least wasn't but a moment ago. As if sparked by that very line of thought, you recall that you made an important decision. A decision to give

up your old life in exchange for a new one. In a moment of clarity, you briefly regain all of your original memories, along with an instinctual

knowledge of how to keep them.

-Imagine A Wall: You build a great wall, a dam inside of your mind, visualizing it around your regained memories. You will never forget your old

life. New memories will take up the same space as they would have anyway, and you will be just as prone to forgetting them as you would have

regardless of your decision here. However, it’ll take time for you to recall the memories of your new life, and you will only be given enough snippets to act

“in character” to remember your family and friends here, and how you

Page 2: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

generally treat each other. The ‘old memories’ of your new life will gradually

come to you over time, aided by spending time with the people you have memories of, and you will eventually retain a perfect set of both memories.

Your original memories of everything you’ve left behind will never fade, and be as clear as they are right now, even if you later wish to forget them.

-Imagine A Gate: You build a great wall, but add an escape, a gate to let your memories leak out over time. You retain memories of your old life, but

your mind makes no new space to accommodate the memories you’ll receive. For each memory of your new life you gain, you must give up a

memory of your old life. This exchange rate will be such that you will only need to lose about 8 years worth of memories to gain all the memories of

your 16 years here, and you can choose which memories to forget, and which type of memory (the person, year, or event) you would like to gain.

From there, your mind will function normally, minus any other mind altering

effects (IE: Mystery Envelope) meaning that as time passes on, you will lose some memories through simply forgetting to recall them and focus on them

enough to remember them. You will, however, be given about four years worth of memories, as space to ‘bookmark’ memories, whether of this life or

your old one. Bookmarked memories will never fade, being as clear as they were the moment you bookmarked them, and you can change which

memories are bookmarked at any time. If you ever choose to forget your old life, you can by simply choosing not to think about it, and immersing

yourself in your new life.

-Imagine A Field: You do nothing to hold your original memories, letting them scatter to the winds, before a great flood swallows your mind. For the

next few days, not really starting until you’ve settled in at your new home, but finishing before your school year starts, you will be given all the

memories of your new life here. They will be particularly sharp and clear,

and you will be given the mastery of an eidetic memory over your new life, able to choose which memories to keep and discard, or to let sit in neutral,

to fade away as they would naturally, at will and without limit. A boon, for one so quick to forget their old life, to keep every joyful and important

memory of their new one.

Feeling content that you’ve made the right choice, a sudden bump in the ride jolts you back to reality. You grab your bags to keep them close, and

enjoy the view from the window as you think of where you’re going. You're headed to: (Pick One)

-The Countryside: Where nothing exciting ever happens. A small populated

town with a single school, and plenty of family owned shops with friendly

Page 3: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

rivalries with each other. If there's a corporate business that just opened,

expect it to have a tense relationship with plenty of the families here. Getting the latest book, game, or movie is going to take a while, about a

week on average, and the tight knit community leaves little hope for anonymity. Still, there's plenty of peace and quiet to take in among the

beautiful natural landscape, and many strange places to explore. It'll be difficult at first, but if you can get the locals on your side, you'll find it easy

to rally them to your cause in an emergency. Plus, if you ever have a few days free, you can always take the train to a nearby city to get your fill of

fun and excitement.

-The City: Where you'll never get a moment alone. Tall buildings and bustling people are everywhere, and the only places you'll ever be free of

something or someone trying to sell you something will be places common sense would suggest you avoid. There are plenty of competing stores, both

giant market chains and smaller businesses either running out of business or

holding on through the virtues of a strange gimmick or incredible service. You'll never be bereft of things to do and new places to see, from

amusement parks, arcades, and more, you'll be lucky if you even manage to visit them all before the year ends. Living here makes it easy to be just

another face in the crowd, but likewise makes it hard to find a moment alone or places where you aren't probably being watched. Still, this is where the

action is, where great memories can be made and with plenty of great people to meet.

Soon enough, you arrive at your destination, and quickly begin making your

way to the exit. As you step off the train, you meet: (Pick One)

-No one: Despite your age, you aren't going to be living with family, or anyone else. Your parents, or perhaps someone in charge of your

inheritance, has bought you an apartment here. It'll be small, but you'll be

the only one you have to clean up after, and having no one to report to at the end of the day is a huge relief. If circumstances or whim should keep

you away until late at night, there won't be anyone to be suspicious of you, and if your grades plummet, there won't be anyone to ground you. Similarly,

if you get sick, there won't be anyone to look after you, and if someone with connections decides to throw their weight around, you'll be facing them on

your own. You receive enough money for rent, a reasonable amount of expenses for food and clothes, and just a tiny bit left over to treat yourself

with at the end of each month. If you want anything more, you'll likely have to get a job.

-Your Family, Rushing Towards You: You weren't gone too long, only

staying behind for one last week with friends you, strangely enough, can't

Page 4: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

really recall the names or faces of right now, but your family reacts as

though they haven't seen you in years. You're used to this kind of behavior however, as they've always been this way. It's rare for you to wake up on

your own, instead of a parent or sibling cheerfully greeting you good morning before you stumble your way to the breakfast already prepared for

you. Your lunches are often packed with delicious, balanced meals, and embarrassing notes that you likely appreciate more than you let on. You can

expect plenty of family activities planned on your days off of school, and plenty of gifts provided you don't pester them for money too often. Of

course, this all comes with the burden of having every scrape and bruise fussed over, and if you have trouble in school, you can expect many long

talks from your concerned parents. It'll be a bit too much, with so little you can hide from them, and so little they don't want to know about, but it's nice

knowing that come what may, you'll always have a warm embrace waiting at home for you.

-Your Family, Waving and Smiling: You're asked how your week was, and you give a vague answer to hide your jumbled memories, before you're

pulled into a hug and one of your bags are carried for you. You suppose you have a pretty standard family, with the occasional family vacation and plenty

of time to spend with them at home. They aren't always around, with work sometimes demanding a lot from them, but they always try to make it to the

important events in your life. You have a fairly balanced routine, with the chores cycling through each of you, and you're often kept from sleeping in

too late on your weekends. As long as you aren't gone too late or at least check in ahead of time, your parents are fine with you spending time away

from home as long as it isn't every day, and as long as you aren't being the embodiment of the rebellious teenager cliche, they'll be fairly understanding

with any trouble you have at school provided you make an earnest effort to improve. You get a good allowance, enough for a new game about once a

month, and you'll get new (if cheap) clothes whenever your old ones are

worn out. Anything fancy you'll need to buy on your own, but might get them to provide for you if you play your cards right, and make it a rare

occurrence.

-Your Family, Waiting Impatiently: Honestly though, you're surprised they showed up at all. Your parents have always been pretty busy, and while

you weren't shown any real coldness from them, you've kept a respectable distance from each other emotionally. You carry your bags on your own as

they lead the way, and conversation is kept rather light, with occasional jabs that simultaneously show their interest and lack of knowledge about your

life. Life at home is pretty much "fend for yourself, and don't cause trouble", you and any siblings you may have keep the house clean and cook your own

meals, with your parents often coming home late from work. You get a short

Page 5: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

family vacation about once a year, and you only need to report in if you

aren't going to be spending the night at home. You get a pretty sweet allowance that almost goes as much to your upkeep as it does your hobbies

and interests, with occasional bonuses or deductions depending on how well you do at school. Your parents have made it clear they expect you to stay

out of trouble, and you can expect there to be some tension between the two of you if you don't. Nevertheless, they won't make you face the world

alone. They'll always be there to bail you out if you ever get in over your head, and once in a blue moon they even manage to take a day off to

support you with whatever club activities you may have at school.

-A Relative, You Haven't Seen in Years: Maybe it's an uncle who hasn't seen you since you were a baby, maybe it's an older sibling who had gone

off to college before you finished middle school. Whatever the case, you two share a blood relation, and a friendly if somewhat distant relationship.

They're taking you in more as a favor to your parents or a desire to have

some help around the house than a desire to see you, but they aren't averse to the idea of growing closer. Most of your clothes and allowance will come

from any money your parents might send to you, with your relative pitching in only as much as they feel they're expected to. They might reward good

behavior or pay you if you take care of their child or keep a secret from your parents, but they see you more as a tenant than their responsibility. As long

as your late night antics or behavior at school aren't causing them trouble, they won't do more than give a stern talking to or threaten to tell your

parents what's going on. What kind of relationship you have during your time here, and how things are whenever you leave, will depend a lot on how

you choose to handle things.

-A Family Friend You Genuinely Don't Know: As a complete stranger walks up to you, every social cue you can detect showing that they

recognize you, it takes you a moment to realize that this isn't just your

memory being funny, you really haven't seen them before. After they introduce themselves however, you recall the name as one your family told

you when you left. A friend of one of your parents, they decided to take you in after whatever circumstances caused you to be here and your parents

elsewhere. Whether they just didn't want you to be on your own but wanted to send you to a better school, or whether you're under some kind of legal

trouble, is up to you to decide. Regardless, they have an awkward and distant relationship, mostly taking care of you out of friendship to your

family than any fondness of you. They'll likely try to get to know you more, and offer whatever sage advice they think they can offer, but it's pretty clear

they don't really know how to handle you, and might hide behind a gruff persona to ensure you don't step out of line. Don't expect any allowance, but

if the two of you get closer they might splurge on a gift for your birthday, or

Page 6: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

offer you a part time job wherever they work. Like the previous choice, this

one requires you to fill in the blanks. Whether or not you're staying in the attic of a small restaurant they own, or staying with your childhood friend's

family, is all up to you. The only thing you can be certain of is that they'll likely raise hell if you cause them trouble, moreso than the relative, but

otherwise let you do things on your own. As long as you don't romantically pursue any children they have, then who knows what'll happen.

Finally you arrive at home, and after a few hours to eat and unpack, you

decide to check out your new school. With classes starting tomorrow, it's important to make sure you know how to get there. Following the directions

you found on your phone, you find yourself face to face with: (Pick One)

-A Broken Gate: Well, more like half of one. The other half has long since fallen apart and been removed, and the half that remains looks like it could

fall off its hinges too at any moment. Compared to the rest of the school,

this isn't anything strange. Run-down is the only way to describe this school, a building that while not likely to collapse on top of you is pretty clearly on

its last legs. Any acts of mischief or vandalism will likely go unnoticed amongst all the wear and tear, and there's certainly nothing stopping you

from sneaking in at the middle of the night. If you're in the Countryside, this is likely reflective of the town's poor financial health, teachers will either be

earnest and hardworking hopefuls who plan to revitalize the school, or as dreary and depressed as the building itself, surrendering to the fact that this

town is in decay. If in the big City, this is likely indicative of how little the city thinks of those that go here. Likely a place only the poor

and misbehaved end up, expect rowdy and down on their luck students, with faculty that see working at this place as an insult to their pride, a perfect

stomping ground to run things however they want, or a chance to reach out to those society seems content to cast aside. You'll likely have some free

time with little in the way of homework and quizzes to study for, and if you

can handle the unsavory sorts that tend to be sent here, you might end up as a king among them.

-An Ordinary School Gate: Really, there's nothing new here, it's just like

any other school you could think of. While not great it's in fairly good shape and with the occasional act of vanity, such as a bust of the principal, to show

that they can afford some luxuries. Every kind of teacher and student can end up here, and it's clear you're in for a standard life at this school. Maybe

that's a relief, or maybe that's a disappointment. Sneaking in at night or trying anything from fighting a student to graffiti will require a good amount

of skill and caution, but you can probably manage as long as nobody notices that anything's been happening more than a few times. Expect standard

amounts of homework, and the usual somewhat difficult tests. There's likely

Page 7: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

a rivalry in any field, from delinquents to the student council. Excelling in

any area will earn you some respect, but certainly not all of it. You'll have to master a wide variety of skills if you want to be seen as someone in charge

of the students here.

-An Intimidatingly Fancy School Gate: Seriously, you haven't even gone inside and it's already like this place thinks it's too good for you. Everything

is done up to display wealth and power, that this is a school for the elite, or perhaps, a powerful prison for its students. You don't have to guess that this

is some kind of private school, and you can expect the best of the best in terms of equipment and teachers, at least on credentials if not in

personality. You'll likely have to prove yourself to the other students before you'll be viewed as an equal, and can expect trust and friendships among

your fellow students to come slowly. At the very least however you'll be protected from any bullies, as this place is quick to crack down on any sign

of disobedience. Of course, should you leave your homework in your desk,

you'll need to pull off a miracle to sneak in and get it once the school locks up for the evening, and if you ever need to take care of an emergency, you'll

have to be discreet if you don't want to find yourself thrown out, or heavily punished. Really either the school is going to be trying to push you out, or

keep you in, and neither situation really cares too much about how you feel about the matter. Expect a plentiful amount of difficult homework. This place

might try to break you, but you know, there's a saying about diamonds being formed under intense pressure. Maybe you'll rise above this stronger

than ever before.

-Gender Exclusive: (Completely Optional, must be combined with another school choice) Oh, there's also a small plaque next to the gate

with the school's name... And the fact that it's only for either men or women. Did you know about this? Did your parents? Are you even of the

gender it's allowing in? If that last one's a "no", expect plenty of hijinks

involving needing to keep your gender a secret, and if your parents find out they accidentally sent you to the wrong school (or that you intentionally

tricked them so you could spend time surrounded by members of the opposite sex) then you'll be removed from the school (and maybe from the

town, depending on your living arrangements) faster than you can say "Let me explain!". Of course, maybe I'm being ridiculous, and you're just being

sent to a gender exclusive school for some perfectly normal reason. If you aren't interested in members of the same sex, do not despair! After all, if

there's a school exclusively for your gender, there's gotta be one nearby for the opposite gender, filled with attractive students just as eager/desperate

to find a date as you might be! (Feel free to also pick what kind of school the other gender exclusive one is like, if it's the same or

different from your own.)

Page 8: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

The next few days pass by without incident. You manage to avoid getting into trouble, and you're slowing getting acquainted with your classmates. It's

during a normal day like this, that things suddenly take a turn for the weird, all starting when: (Pick Any Number, whether you combine them or

keep them all as separate factors, please try to give it a consistent narrative. For more information on how combining concepts works,

see the bottom of this PDF.)

-You Woke Up In The Middle Of The Night: It took a few minutes of stumbling around before you realized something was up. The lights wouldn't

turn on, and your alarm clock had midnight stuck to the screen, neither blinking nor changing as what had to have been minutes passed by. Even

your phone didn't work, tossing out the hopes of a power outage being responsible. Eventually, you went outside, to find the world supernaturally

still, and with no one in sight. You weren't sure how long things stayed likes,

but it couldn't have been more than an hour or two, before the world turned back to normal in an instant, electronics working and whatever nightlife

there was resuming as normal. You were tempted to brush the whole off as a weird dream, but then it happened again.

-You Fell Into Something, and Just Kept Falling: Maybe you stuck your

hand into a tv, maybe you touched your reflection only to move right past it. Whether you stepped into a shadow and suddenly fell into it, or bumped into

a wall with a cartoonish door drawn into it with chalk, and moved passed it like it was made of tissue paper, it all comes down to one simple fact. You

crossed a threshold, and found yourself someplace that couldn't be real. Whatever the case may be, you luckily managed to make your way back

home by crossing through a different portal before any danger could find you, and have been keeping an eye out for them ever since. You've

prepared for an expedition of sorts now, determined to figure out just what

it was you stumbled into.

-You Turned On an App That Wouldn't Go Away: You were certain it was a virus of some sort, nothing legitimate redownloads itself to your

phone every time you uninstall it, but with nothing better to do, you gave it a tap. Just like that, the world you knew melted away, replaced by an odd

mockery of the town you were familiar with. While the landscape shares a lot of similarities, you've found that you can't turn the App off unless you're

standing someplace that won't warp you back into an object, and moving in one world moves you in the other. You've been slowly testing the App in

short bursts, but you're beginning to think it's safe for a longer experiment.

Page 9: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

-You Had A Dream That Felt Incredibly Real: You fell asleep in your bed,

and woke up to find yourself in a completely different world. You pinched yourself, and felt pain. This wasn't a dream. You'd somehow been sent into a

fantasy world! After about a week of trying to figure out where you were and accepting that this was your new reality, you suddenly found yourself

turning into stone. As you became completely petrified, you woke up gasping for breath, laying on your bed in a room you never thought you'd

see again. You were going to put the whooe thing behind you, but when you fell asleep that night, you broke through the stone shell that had incased you

in the other world, to discover that you were back, and two weeks had passed.

-You Noticed Something No One Else Did: An animal you had never seen

before crawling along the chalkboard, inhuman ears poking out from someone's hat, for brief moments you see something that couldn't possibly

be real. What's worse, is that you've seen them interact with the world

around them. Someone's tail knocks over an object on the table behind them, or a weird cross between a frog and a slug eats a piece of litter on the

sidewalk, and no one sees the trash that was there a second ago, and just believes the wind carried it away whenever you bring it up. It's like

everyone's selectively blind, and fearing you're going insane, you resolve to force an interaction between the strange things you've seen, and the people

who believe you're insane.

While your bizarre experiences are certainly quite unsettling, they were benign at first, until one day, while experimenting with your unnatural

surroundings, you found yourself being pursued by: (Pick Any Number, whether you combine them or keep them all as separate factors,

please try to give it a consistent narrative. For more information on how combining concepts works, see the bottom of this PDF.)

-A Feral Beast: A strange creature with animal intelligence, it pursued you with a ravenous look that bordered on madness obsession. As you would

soon find out, the world was full of these, always eager to devour those who wandered into this world, or, depending on your previous options, slowly

draining the life or emotions from unaware victims, or always trying to eat those who they felt were too weak to fight back.

-Another Human: You aren't the only person who discovered this world,

who dreams of another world, or who sees through the veil. There are people who have been utilizing these supernatural events for their own

purposes, and they see you as a threat to their plans. They're organized, but bound by the same rules you are, and too busy to use their full might

against you right away. As you continue to elude them, or defeat them and

Page 10: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

foil their plans, you're elimination will become more and more of a priority

for them.

-An Abstract... Thing: Something like a beast, but with a physiology and behavior that doesn't quite fit that of a hungry animal. Its form and powers

are likely drawn in some way from human perception, embodying nightmares, suppressed emotions, forbidden nightmares, or people's beliefs.

It and the world they inhabit have a clear connection to humanity, even if what the connection actually is isn't entirely clear. Regardless, your presence

here, or awareness of them, draws them towards you, and it's clear they take great offense to the idea of your continued existence.

-Someone Not Quite Human: Really, if it wasn't for the tail, the ears, the

fangs, the green skin, or whatever few details they possess that makes them obviously inhuman, you think the two of you would be a lot alike. They're

sapient, creative, every bit someone you should be able yo befriend, except

they seem to have a chip on their shoulder, and view either humanity as a whole or you in particular as an enemy. There are a lot of them, but they're

largely disorganized, with goals ranging from merely annoying you, to eating you alive, to ripping out whatever part of you lets you notice/interact with

them, regardless of whether you'll survive the experience. Depending on their individual natures, and any other threats that may exist, it's possible to

form a temporary ceasefire, or a tenuous neutrality of staying out of each other's way, but they'll never really stop aiming to accomplish their goals.

Despite your efforts, you couldn't escape your pursuer, and realizing there

was no other choice, you decided to fight your way past them. As if sensing your resolve, you found yourself aided by: (Pick Any Number, whether

you combine them or keep them all as separate factors, please try to give it a consistent narrative. For more information on how

combining concepts works, see the bottom of this PDF.)

-A Strange Inhabitant of This Other World: (Requires an enemy type

besides 'Another Human') It seems not all of the creatures here hold malicious intent towards you, some would rather assist you to achieve their

own ends. Whether a tamed beast or an inhuman, there's something they gain from their bond with you that makes it in their best interests to keep

you alive. Maybe by giving up your voice in a pact with them, they'll receive power beyond what they could achieve on their own, or maybe you're the

only one who can read the spells from a book they're carrying. Regardless, your power in this realm comes almost entirely from another living being,

and your bond with them. While it is in both of your best interests to get along, they don't really need you, and if pushed too far, may sever their ties

with you completely. This relationship will require some give and take, and

Page 11: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

patience as you try to understand each others perspective. That said, they

aren't likely to be so abrasive right out of the gate, and if you treat them with respect, you're bound to have a loyal friend who will gladly sacrifice

themselves to keep you alive.

-An Object That Holds Power Over Them: Maybe these inhumans are weak to iron, or a legendary sword is the only thing that can slay these feral

beasts for good. Whatever the form, your power manifests as a tool of some sort that is especially effective in channeling or fighting against the strange

magic that this other world is made from. It doesn't have a will of its own, so it can't disobey you, but it can be taken from you, and without it you'll be at

a severe disadvantage. If it's something you can make more of, it might be a good idea to do so, and if it's not, there's probably at least some way to

sharpen your skills with it, and enhance it further into something that can slay any threat.

-A New Power That Was Lurking Inside Of You: It turns out you aren't entirely your old self anymore, this new world has changed you in some

way, bestowing you with the power to fight back. Maybe you can channel the same types of magic your enemies were using, or you find yourself with

enhanced strength and speed in this dream world. Whatever it is, you now have a latent power within you that makes you far more of a threat than the

average human, and gives you the opportunity to really hold your own in this strange new world.

After successfully defending yourself, you managed to escape back home.

For the next few days, you experimented with your new power and the supernatural elements taking place within your city. Eventually, you found

others like yourself, who were more than happy to work with you to keep each other safe. You are now part of: (Pick One)

-An Organization: A formal organization meant to protect humanity and rid the world of the more dangerous threats this other world provides. Expect

some form of official ID, some sort of quota, and resources for both combat training and supplies. Can be combined with Private School if you want the

organization to be a part of your education. Maybe they recognized your potential before you did, and sought you out as a student so they could train

you? You'll often have strict orders on what you need to accomplish, a strict schedule, and strict rules on how you can and can't use your powers, but

you'll never be bereft of help or resources for the more difficult threats, and they can help provide a cover for any late night activities they require of

you. Plus, the pay is good.

Page 12: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

-A School Club: (Cannot be taken with Private School) Many of those

with powers similar to your own are fellow students, and you all jumped at the opportunity to form a school club where you could use the time and

school funding to experiment with your powers, the world you had all recently discovered, and discuss what to do with it all. Maybe the club was

already founded, and you were invited into it when one of your senpai discovered your ability? Regardless, this place has a more relaxed

atmosphere than the Organization, with an elected club leader and more relaxed rules and regulations. You'll occasionally have to do things unrelated

to the other world to keep up whatever lie you're using to keep the club to yourselves, and have to divert curious students who don't know what they're

getting into. Your club funds will have to be used on solely group activities, no pocketing it for your personal gain. You'll have to have a more genuine

bond with no real leadership and plan outside of what you all agree upon, and offering whatever resources you can each come up with (and what you

think you can convince the school to pay for) but you're pretty free to decide

for yourselves what your powers mean, and how you want to do things.

-A Secret Club: It sounds more childish than it really is, but to put it simply, you're a ragtag band of various people from all walks of life, loosely

organized by the same curiosity and threats from the other world, trying to work together and keep each other safe. You have a public meeting spot, or

rotate among any of your homes whenever you think you can congregate there without suspicion. The exact nature depends on the size, it could be

something like the Organization, but just starting out and without any official funding, or be more like the School Club, where it's mostly a bunch of

friends working together, but they aren't all necessarily from the same school. Regardless, most major decisions will require a unanimous vote, but

for smaller tasks you can usually rely on having at least someone who can always rush to your aid, even if they might not really be able to do much.

-...You Aren't Sure, Actually: Really, you know there are other people aware of what's going on and similarly able to fight it, people who don't want

to hunt you down, and might be willing to help you, but there's no real group or organization. You haven't all gotten together and made a vow or a

set of rules. You just know you aren't alone, and that there are people who you know might be able to help you, and who know you might be able to

help them. There's no getting together regularly to discuss major plans, it's all suddenly going to wherever they are, asking for help, and hoping they

say yes. When you aren't working together, you're all off doing your own things, and you'll have to judge for yourself who you can trust with what

information. None of you are directly opposing one another for the moment, but there's no guarantee that they see things the same way you do, or want

the same things as you. An ally today may be an enemy later, or someone

Page 13: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

may hope to dump their problems at your door and run off, but if you play

your cards right you can still earn yourself a few true friends who will gradually come to stand by your side more frequently over time. Who

knows, at some point you might actually be a part of something.

The fact that you aren't alone in dealing with these strange events has been a great relief. You doubt anyone would believe a word you said if they

couldn't see it for themselves. It's great to have people who can know the full story, and there are even ones who can't that have still been a

great help in one way or another. As the months go by, the challenges you face are never too overwhelming with such great friends by your side.

There's: (Pick up to 15 Friends, but only up to 7 of them can know the truth behind everything, the rest will support you through other

means.)

-Your Friend From Back Home: You weren't the only one moving into

town that day on the train, but somehow you both missed each other until the first day of school, where you share the same home room. They're just

as new and clueless as you are when it comes to the town you live in and the strange supernatural happenings, but it's nice having someone to

explore the unknown with, and a familiar face you already know you can trust. (Pick someone you know from your old life, you are both now

the same age(16), and enrolled in the same highschool, in the same town. Your memories of your time together from your old lives are

changed when needed to fit your current ages and fit into your current lives. You must both decide on the same fate for your

original memories, and will be given time to discuss what option to pick. They must consent to being here with you, but they don't have

to have any supernatural powers if you or them don't want to. If you wish, you can change your backstory and have them be a sibling of

yours, sharing the same living space, regardless of your blood

relation in your past life)

-An Odd Stranger Who You Mistook For A Celebrity: It was certainly confusing for you when you both met. Whether you said anything about it or

not, you could have sworn you had seen their face before. Racking your brain for any affirming memories, you found none, but you still feel oddly

excited to see them here, and lucky to have them as a friend. (Pick any of the main cast from Persona 3, 4, or 5. Their memories and life will

change enough to keep them as canonically accurate as possible to how they were at the beginning of the game while seamlessly

integrating them into the rules of this new world, and events in both of your lives will match similarly to however the Protagonist of each

game got them to join up with them, with possibly major deviations

Page 14: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

depending on the new world and your personality. If you pick any of

the Main Protagonists, they have no special "Wild Card" abilities, no matter how similarly you make this world to any of the Persona

worlds.) (For the cost of an extra companion slot, you can import any fictional character of any media, who will be changed to fit this

new world, and either be changed to be about the same age as you, or given a role more befitting their original age. Similarly to the main

Persona protagonists, they are removed of any special abilities, and can only acquire those befitting this new world if taken as a close

friend. Said abilities will however match/reference the type of abilities they would have had in their old world as much as possible.)

(For another Companion slot, they can be given a shared history with you such as in the "A Friend From Back Home" option, with

optional sibling relation.)

Note: For any of the companions listed, or those you choose to Import from

your old life or another world, you may swap them to the opposite gender or sexuality than what is listed/canon, should you wish to do so. This does not

consume a point. Changing anyone you bring with you requires them to consent to the change, however, and these changes can also apply to you,

before you begin your life here. By default, you come across as a moderately above average attractive member of your initial gender, with the same

sexuality you have now.

Having these people by your side are what made it possible to deal with the challenges that would lie ahead of you. Much to the dismay of any laziness

you may have, the entire year kept you incredibly busy. If it wasn't school assignments, there was a friend who needed help, and the weird happenings

in town always roped you into the fray one way or another. By the time your first year in this new town had ended, you'd already dealt with: (Pick Eight

Events, none more than once unless otherwise stated)

-Defeating A Major Threat: (May be taken twice) Whatever your enemy

was, an evil organization, the arrival of ever stronger feral beasts, or what, the main cause of all of these problems has been dealt with. Things haven't

completely settled down, you're sure another problem might rise up again soon, or your original problem might reveal itself to only be a smaller

fraction of a larger whole, but for now you and your friends can breathe easy. There's still school to worry about, but also more free time to hang out

with friends, or get some training it as you focus more on mastering your strange powers.

-Studying For Finals: (Can be taken three times) All the epic

adventures and supernatural threats aren't excuses that'll hold up if you

Page 15: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

flunk your grade, even if you're working for the organization that invited you

to this school in the first place! Keeping up your normal education is important if you want to land a good job after all of this, or at least want to

get the teachers and whoever you may live with off your back. Plus, people are typically more likely to listen to you if you're a model student. Really, it's

a pain, but studying for tests is a necessary part of a highschooler's life. At least you can invite your friends, and try to have some fun with it.

-A Rival Gang: In addition to whatever threats you typically faced, it turned

out there was another group vaguely similar to your own who were after the same things you were. Unlike the Organization threat, these people aren't

up to anything truly nefarious or outright bent on killing you dead, but they aren't the friendliest bunch, and they're pretty keen on making you and your

friends step down. Whatever threats may plague this town, they'll handle it their way, and don't need you interfering. Maybe they're students from a

rival school, or simply a less noble group of survivors than your own band of

friends. A ceasefire is certainly possible when the major threats arrive, and you might be able to end this with a solid friendship, but they'll still never

follow you as their leader, and typically be trying to one-up you in some way, most likely due to some weird feud you'll initially have over small

ideological differences in how to handle things, or maybe they just solely disagree with the way you pronounce certain words. Rivalries are weird.

The Criminal Is... YOU: Except it isn't, someone with either a connection

to the supernatural elements of this town, or a run of the mill criminal gang, has chosen you to be the scapegoat for their latest crime, and it seems like

nearly everyone has fallen for it! Expect your close friends, and maybe even your rivals, depending on when this happens, to either staunchly defend you

to the public, or be stunned with uncertainty. Nevertheless, you can bring most of them to your side just by explaining your side of things (The Rivals

will likely come around after a brief battle, and either choose to help you or

stay out of the way after), and with some help, you should be able to discover whoever framed you, and with some luck, reveal the truth!

-School Festival: Not necessarily as important as studying for your finals,

at least in the grand scheme of things, but expect your classmates and teachers to think lowly of you if you skip out on helping. You'll get to help

vote on what your class decides to do, and put any skills you may have to the test in getting things set up. It's really an easy job, compared to clearing

your name and fighting a giant monster of some sort, but balancing the two in the same season will probably be a bit of a chore, and it's still time taken

out of your day either way. Here's hoping you're able to have fun with it, and maybe impress some people with whatever skills you bring to the event.

Page 16: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

-Going Steady: (Can be taken more than once, you monster) This was

entirely by choice, but you couldn't let the moment slip by. You've fallen for one of your friends, whether one that knows the truth of things or not, and

decided to ask them out. To your excitement (and relief) they said yes, and the two of you have been a couple ever since. Not a whole lot has changed,

school isn't any easier or more difficult, and the threats on your life certainly don't care about your relationship status, but you've been putting aside

more and more time in between things to try and hang out with your SO, going to the movies, the amusement park, the arcade, or just spending

some time together at home. It's been great, and while you don't know if it'll last, you're grateful for the time you've had with them by your side.

-A Kidnapping: (Cannot be taken with only "Feral Beasts" as a

Threat) (Can be taken more than once) Not just any kidnapping, but one of your friends, captured by your enemies, and likely about to die. You

and your remaining friends (The exact number of which depending on how

many were captured and when exactly this occurred. You didn't befriend everyone at the start of the year, remember?) had to race against the clock

to rescue them before they could suffer a terrible fate, an ordeal which was fraught with peril, and pushed you all to your limits as you fought enemies

almost too strong for you to beat. In the end, things turned out okay, and you all grew closer, and stronger, for the experience, but you certainly hope

something like this doesn't happen again.

-Summer Vacation: All the crazy supernatural threats in the world couldn't take away your enthusiasm for a trip to the beach! Swimming in the ocean,

building sand castles, spending time with friends, and seeing whatever gender you're attracted to in swimsuits! If anything, the stress of your

double life only made you want this vacation more, and while it might not have ended perfectly (strange and embarrassing incidents occur with or

without magic powers behind the scenes), it was still a fun and memorable

moment for you and your friends.

-Winter Vacation: Having a snowball fight! Going skiing or snowboarding! Spending a romantic evening with your SO, or having fun exchanging gifts

with family and friends! A nice, cozy holiday to celebrate surviving another two seasons, and your bond with those you've survived them with.

-A Major Illness or Injury: You aren't doing too well. Whether you've

caught the flu or injured yourself during your last adventure (or a comical, every day incident that feels especially embarrassing with all the deadly

threats you've faced), you're REALLY not feeling very good, or good at all, really. Here's hoping you live with somebody, or have a friend or SO you're

close enough to for them to be willing to take care of you, because this isn't

Page 17: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

something you'll be recovering from on your own, or at least, you really

shouldn't be. Can be passed off onto someone else if you don't want to deal with it, but you better be the one taking care of them then, or at least

checking in on them every now and then, and helping out whoever's doing most of the work.

-School Club Activities: What? Just because you might need to help save

the world every now and then doesn't mean you can't try to have a normal life. You ended up joining a club of one kind or another, and naturally, some

major event came up that you either couldn't, or wouldn't, miss out on. Dealing with baseball or football (and etc) season in one of the sport clubs,

playing at a concert or putting on a performance in the music or theater clubs. Being a part of the debate team, or the student council, a cooking

club, or something else, and working on all the things that happen there. It would look good on your resume in the future, and is a fun and important

part of highschool life. Plus, maybe you have a friend in the club who you'll

get to spend more time with, or learn something you'll actually get some practical use out of. Can also be taken for a friend, as something that's

important to them you spent plenty of time helping them train for, and cheering them on.

-General Acts of Heroism: In between all the things trying to kill you or

those close to you, there were also plenty of people in need of help. Lives weren't at risk, but livelihoods often were. There wasn't much anyone could

do to help them, but there aren't many people with the resources and skills you have. Your supernatural powers and general knowledge of the existence

of things most people wouldn't believe in gives you a special edge in solving these particular cases, and you weren't about to let their cries for help fall

on deaf ears. You put plenty of time into helping out whenever you could, probably making your friends, and the general public, like you a bit more.

-Valentine's Day: (Requires Going Steady) It's really only one day, hardly something that takes up too much of your time, but as far as

memories go, it's one of the most precious. You spend a wonderful day with the man/woman of your dreams, holding hands, exchanging gifts, maybe

having a romantic evening. Really, the whole day was incredible, and one you'll treasure for a very long time. (Does not actually end well for you

if you picked Going Steady more than once. Expect at least one broken heart.)

As the supernatural threats seem to die down, the school year ends, and a

chapter of your life is put behind you. Arriving home for what may be the last time (depending on if you'll be able to stay in this town another year),

you find a strange envelope sitting on your bed. Black with gold words, it

Page 18: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

holds no name or address to show who it's from or if it was really addressed

to you, just two simple questions written where they should be:

"Wasn't this fun? Do you really want it all to end?"

The words strike a chord in you, and you feel that this question isn't being asked superfluously. With all the strange threats you've dealt with, there

could be some kind of magic in this letter, the real question is:

Do you open it?

Page 19: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

Mystery Evenlope:

Eternity

You fall asleep right away, not even being able to read the letter inside, and when you awake, it's gone, and you're laying in bed as if you had actually

chosen to go to sleep. Your alarm goes off next to you, and without thinking, you begin getting ready for school. It isn't until you sit at your desk and

class begins that you realize you've done all this before. Somehow, you're still in the second year, and the calendar is back to what it was on your first

day of school. Yet, you aren't merely repeating the events of the past year. For one, all of your friends, and everyone you knew, remember you, and the

events of the year before. Their thoughts and memories become muddled when they try to recall certain details, such as the year (simply saying "last

year" when referring to the year of past events) or that they've been through this grade before. They'll remember you weren't here during events

that took place before your second year originally began, and they'll

acknowledge that they've known you for a year, and that they're in second year now, but trying to confront them with facts to make them realize the

oddness of the situation will only result in them giving a brief acknowledgement that "it is kinda weird" before waving it off, as if the

conversation has suddenly been plucked out of their thoughts or as if they simply didn't really care. Nothing you do will change this.

The problems you face will also change, though the exact nature of the

supernatural world itself won't be altered in any dramatic way, (if a supernatural world didn't previously have any Feral Beasts, it won't suddenly

have them now). Your opponents and special events will all be changed to some degree, as people are influenced by their memories of the year before.

While the schoolwork seems familiar to you, no one else will recognize this,

Page 20: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

feeling that they're facing new and challenging problems, even while being

able to retain the knowledge they learned last year. Without your influence, everyone's grades will be about the same, with some rivalries maybe going

the other way, and similarly with competitions between clubs, and the school festival. Things will be somewhat different in the ideas people put into play,

but people's capabilities to do things are the same as before. New media will be released, but technology itself won't really progress, with the boundaries

of what is already capable never being surpassed, but the upper limits of technology becoming gradually more common place. Video game or movie

sequels won't have better capabilities than what is technically possible now, but things that might have been too expensive to put into a gaming console

might no longer be too expensive, and games will have adapted to player feedback and go in new directions. Climate change, and other such global

issues will not get any worse, and wars will neither begin nor end. Everything will stay somewhat new and exciting, changing almost as if it

actually is the new year, but with odd limits in place that will remind you

that things are still the same. At the end of every year, you'll no longer see the same envelope, and simply go to bed right away, to wake up the next

day, ready to go to school again.

As time goes on, you might very well lose the life of a close companion against an especially powerful opponent.* Similarly, new people will enter

your life, your circle of friends changing every so often as random events (a death in the family pulling them to their hometown for the remainder of the

school year, etc) occur. The general number of people in town that are especially helpful towards you will always stay about the same, with new

ones introduced the next season that old ones are lost. People close to them will remember them, and be emotionally changed by the event, but as the

years go on, they'll only refer to it as something that happened last year, and as even they are replaced, the memory of past friends will be gradually

forgotten by your current friends, with only you there to remember them.

People that leave are highly unlikely to come back, though those that do not die may someday return. They'll only remember having been gone for a

year, and their memories will work as they did before they left. People that you don't know too well tend to change the most: The pregnant wife next

door will have her baby, and said baby will grow up to start their first year of school, but afterwards cease aging, and no one will find it odd that you, who

they've only known for a year, was there through it all.

Should you ever spend an entire year genuinely wishing to break the cycle, you will find yourselves fighting against a new, and powerful opponent

during the next repeat. Said opponent will claim to be responsible for all of the supernatural events you've faced, and the strange memory alteration

happening to everyone, who will be significantly more aware of the logical

Page 21: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

problems in their memory. Upon their defeat, everyone's supernatural

powers, and the other world itself, will be lost, and the most important individual events for everyone will be combined into a one year's worth of

memory that people will call "The Eternal Year". Any details they didn't consider important enough to fit within that memory will be lost, though you

will, as before, retain a perfect memory, as if every previous year really did happen only one year ago. Should you tell people of the memories they've

lost, they'll regain them, in as much as they choose to believe that what you say is true. Your third year of school will begin, in this town or someplace

else, depending on the origin you chose, and life will continue as normal. People will age, new technology will be developed, etc.

Only at one other point in your life, should you be filled with a desire for

another adventure, will you receive another strange envelope. Opening it will result in the next day beginning, as usual, with you slowly discovering yet

another set of strange, supernatural occurrences in your day to day life.

You'll face another threat, that you'll fight off with new powers of your own, and those around you will similarly get involved as old friends are given new

powers as well, or new people are introduced to fill the same quota as before. When that year ends, it too will repeat, with everything like the

previous time loop, until you once again choose to break the cycle. At which point, your life will remain ordinary until the very end, with only precious

memories, the lessons you've learned, and the bonds you've made being the only lingering change from your second run-in with the supernatural.

*At no point during your first year, or any repeat years, are you in danger of

dying. Plot armor will always keep you alive. Anyone you bring in from your old world will similarly be protected, but all others may be killed during

especially intense circumstances. Said circumstances will often however, try and first target those you are the least close to, though they may at times

try to take the ones you love most, depending entirely on the rule of drama,

should "they" find the effect of taking the less important unsatisfying. The new people introduced into your life, will never be exact copies of those you

lost, and often not even all that similar to whoever you lost most recently, but may share some similarities as the years repeat, and the number of

unique options gradually reduced.

Should you not open the envelope, the events of your third year in highschool will result in the defeat of a powerful entity responsible for the

supernatural events occurring in your town, and everyone will lose their powers, and resume a normal life.

ABOUT COMBINING

CONCEPTS:

-Really a lot of this is up to your imagination, but for ideas: Combining the Phone App and Real Life could mean that using your phone initiates

something that changes you to be able to more effectively notice and interact with the supernatural elements. Combine that with Feral Beasts and

An Inhabitant of This World, and you could have a pokemon style fantasy where these magic creatures are summoned through an app on your

cellphone, as if the creation and use of this app has altered reality enough for it to genuinely effect reality, and allow some to see the aftereffects

(seeing vague, semi transparent images of the creatures and powers used,

from the perspective of someone not currently using the app or who has the potential but hasn’t yet activated their powers)

-Combining the Organization and Feral Beast threats, you can have the feral

beasts be a neutral third party, attacking either you or them indiscriminately. With the above pokemon like idea, you could have

monsters controlled by the enemy, and wild monsters alike.

-Combining the Dream and Reality worlds, you could have it so that while initially, people only know each other from the Dream world by the

information they willingly give each other, instead, you can tell whenever someone else is a ‘Dreamer’ and maybe even who their alter ego is,

specifically. Likewise, if A Power Within is chosen, you may be able to draw upon a portion of your magical power or otherworldly might when in the real

world.

-Combining Feral Beasts and Subconscious Monsters, would give entities

that are a bit more logical, but still very abstract and emotion driven. On top of that, combining the A Power Within with and Inhabitant of This World

powers, would result in something less like a Persona and more like a Stand (I DON’T ACTUALLY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT JO JO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE,

but I have heard that some Stands are sapient or have some level of free will? So I suppose this would be like that, please correct me if I’m wrong)

-Essentially, combining any other world types with the Reality otherworld

type essentially means you don’t entirely go into another world, but shift more closely to a different frequency, the magical things having less of an

effect on you when in reality, and likewise harder to see and interact with.

Page 23: Highschool JRPG CYOA - desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz · Highschool JRPG CYOA You wake up on a train, two travelling bags beside you. Today is the day you'll arrive in a new town

Similarly, you’ll be more confined by reality when in the other world, and be

able to use it to spy on what people in the real world are doing, as you can see them like you can see the inhabitants of the other world when in the

normal one. This is entirely optional, but it wouldn’t make a lot of sense if people in reality could fully see what you’re doing when you break out the

magic powers, monsters, and equipment.

-Unless you want a world which acknowledges the supernatural, in which case, much of this CYOA changes rather dramatically. The supernatural

elements would not go away upon the end of the year like in most Persona games, but the Mystery Box potential could still be in effect.

-All threats may be combined into something new, or taken separately, or

both.

-The Dream Otherworld type is pretty different from the others, I don’t really

know how to combine it with the other types, though perhaps making it so that you experience a more abstract reality in your dreams, instead of a

straight up fantasy world, could work. Any ideas are appreciated. I’ll likely put any clever world builds in here to help others come up with ideas.

-Thank you for reading all of this, and I hope you enjoy my CYOA!
