Sharing Education Programme
Year 9 pupils from Belfast High School, Dominican College and Hazelwood Integrated
College took part in a Maths Money Challenge during February. This workshop was held
in Dominican College and was part of a series of events for The Sharing Education
Programme which promotes collaboration and sharing between schools across NI. The
pupils will use Mahoodle, the Virtual Learning Environment, to review their work and to
foster collaboration and communication between their schools. Arts Society of Ulster
Congratulations to Joel McGrath who was awarded first prize by the
Arts Society of Ulster for his work which had been included in the
CCEA True Colours Art Exhibition. Each year the ASU visit the
exhibition and award a first and second prize. Joel was presented with
a certificate and £100. His work will also be shown at the Arts Society
of Ulster Exhibition in April. Another piece of Joel’s work has been
awarded a Merit Prize in the annual Texaco Art Competition.
Roadsafe Roadshow
Belfast High School recently hosted the PSNI/Cool FM Road Safety Roadshow, giving
our Sixth Form pupils and pupils from local schools the opportunity to experience this hard
-hitting, award-winning show. The show uses actors, real life members of the
emergency services and victims of car accidents to tell the story of a young 17 year
old driver and the horrific crash that ended with their permanent disability and the death
of a passenger. The Roadshow allowed students to see the dangers of being under the
influence while driving, and made them aware that every action has a consequence while
they are out on the roads of Northern Ireland.
Medallion XV
In their final match of the 2011-12 season, the Medallion XV hosted a touring team from Hugh
McRoberts School, Canada on Monday 19 March. The match was followed by lunch and
presentations. Thank you to all parents involved in hosting the boys, providing and serving lunch
and supporting the team throughout the year.

Congratulations to all pupils who achieved Bronze,
Silver and Gold Awards. Special congratulations to
the Gold Award winners - Kristian Bell, Matthew
Kingston and Rebecca Lucas.
Sailing News
Congratulations to Andrew Penney

to represent Ireland at the Laser
National Youth Squad Academy in
England.
Spring Concert
Our annual Spring Concert was a great success highlighting the wide range of musical
talent among the pupils of the school. The concert featured large ensemble performance in
the forms of school orchestra, band, junior and senior choirs. There were also wonderful
individual and small group performances, especially ‘Entr’acte’ the flute and guitar duet
featuring Clara Chivers and Anselm McDonnell and Jacqui Barnes’ cello solo (Bach’s
Prelude from Cello Suite No 1). The tuba solo by Andrew Barkley was as impressive as
the Rock Group’s ‘Supermassive Black Hole’ was loud. Andrew Beckinsale premiered his
own composition ‘Antimatter’ on piano and the Big Band presented a beautifully sultry
rendition of ‘Malaguena’ by Lecuona. The Senior Choir rounded off a hugely successful
evening with a tear-jerking medley from ‘Les Miserables’.
