Flea Market Donations The Tuesday morning Flea Market Sorting Group is back and
gratefully accepting your donations. Should you have any
questions, please speak to Jim or Marilyn Parsons.
Paper Napkins Needed! Twelve months a year, members of our
congregation gather to celebrate their birthdays.
The most important way of helping is to attend in
your birth month as there can't be a party without
cheerful guests! A second way is to offer to
donate a cake; while a third is to think of this
small group ministry when you are tidying up af-
ter any sort of a
celebration at your own home. Please donate all
unused paper napkins --- any colour, any theme!

Job Description
Arrive at Highlands by 8:30 am to have coffee plugged in by
8:45 am
Prepare and set up coffee and tea urns, cups, milk, sugar and
cookies for before worship coffee time
Easy to follow directions are available on signing up and posted
on the inside door of the top right hand cupboard in the 200 wing
kitchenette.

The popular Edgemont Village
concert series returns this
summer for its 18th year,
brought to you by North Vancouver Recreation and Culture.
Edgemont Village is a great spot to come and enjoy free outdoor
concerts on Friday evenings in August. Enjoy live music, dancing,
iced beverages, ice cream, frozen yogurt and delicious food from
local eateries. Bands are selected to bring vibrant, diverse and fun
music to each evening. You will find something to suit every musical
taste!
The Local and Live concert series is very popular, so you will want to
get there early and bring a chair or blanket. Once you have your
spot staked out, you can explore the merchants of Edgemont
Village.

September Spotlight: Adult Programs
Science Religion and an Evolving Faith with Robert McDonald September 5-9 Science and Religion are often portrayed as opposites, but what if scientific discovery is the Mystery revealing its creative role in the Universe? People may experience a sense of Mystery, but don't believe all religious doctrines. This program will use the science of Big History and a DVD entitled "Painting the Stars" to prompt discussion about what an evolutionary Christian spiritual-ity might look like. Time for reflection will also be included. No answers will be provided, but there will be some good questions to live with.
Seeing the Mystery:A Contemplative Photography Experience with Rhonda Pigott September 12-16 Together we will explore the sacred through the eyes of the camera, as we slow down, rest, and rejuvenate. This is not a technical course, only a basic knowledge of your camera's operation is required. Each session will have a time of meditation, visio divina, aha's and questions as well as a time for pho-tographing, discerning, journaling, shar-ing, and a new way of seeing. This is a respectful time of each other's soul work.
Spiritual Eldering with Jim Kalnin and Lois Huey Heck/Tim and Donna Scorer September 18-23 Let's ensure that the decades following the years of paid work and home-making are a time of creativity, engagement, mentoring, and compassionate accompaniment. After all, that could be a third of our lives! Let's build a cul-ture in which aging people learn what it means to grow into eldership, a time of life in which experience and wisdom become a resource and gift for com-munity. As a group of people 55 and older, we will spend time together listen-ing, remembering, exploring, practising, and creating as we become the kind of community that will make this kind of difference in our kind of world.

Ministerial Panel in
North Vancouver
A message from Highlands' Climate and
Environment Action Group
The Panel’s meeting in North Vancouver will be held at the
North Vancouver District Hall on Friday, August 19:
1030-1200: Local government roundtable
1430-1900: Public town hall
This is one of a number of meetings being held along the pipe-
line’s proposed route. At these informal sessions, the Panel is
engaging with local communities, stakeholders, and Indigenous
groups and identifying additional views that could be relevant to
the Government’s final decision on the project. The public is
welcome at all sessions.

Memorial Garden Service Sunday, August 14, 2016
You are invited to join us on Sunday, August 14 in the Memorial
Garden for our annual Memorial Service. This is a special service
to remember those who have been laid to rest among the flowers
and plants. After the 10 am service, we will make our way to the
Memorial Garden, where Sandi Parker will lead us in prayer
and remembrance. All are welcome.
