Dear friend,
At Hamm Clinic, we are committed to our mission – providing quality and culturally competent mental health assessment and treatment for adults in our community, particularly the underserved and those who cannot afford the full cost of care. After so many successful years we have our traditional approaches to care, but we do not let tradition stand in the way of progress.
For instance, we continue to support our clients who need medication as part of their care, but we are making more frequent use of pharmacogenomics, an approach which is designed to provide genetic information useful in determining correct medications and dosing. For some clients, we are even using long-acting injectable medications. This method of drug delivery can make it more likely that clients continue their medications because they don’t have to remember to take their pills on a daily basis. It also can make it less likely that these patients will be hospitalized for their illness.
We are very pleased to report that our psychology training program has a brand new seven-year accreditation from the American Psychological Association and we continue to search for new ways to involve trainees in the life of the clinic and of our community. Our commitment to relationship-based therapy is as strong as ever, and this year our research committee is evaluating the use of a tool to measure a client’s satisfaction with therapy sessions before the session is even over. The results of this research will be shared broadly with the mental health care community. We re-built our electronic health record infrastructure, continued the ability to send text messages to remind clients of their appointments, and clients can still download registration forms and pay bills online.
But, even with all these changes, we still believe each person comes to the clinic with a unique situation and that a careful assessment that informs treatment is essential. As we say at Hamm Clinic, mental health begins with a conversation. Thank you so much for all you have done and we invite you to continue your support of the essential work of Hamm Clinic.
