Some of the measures taken for staffwelfare are:-i. Expand the scope of Liberalized Active Retirement Scheme forGuaranteed Employment for safety category staff by enhancing theexisting criteria of gnde pay fiom '1,800/- to '1,900/-.ii. Considering the Indian family structure and values, extending medicalfacilities to both dependent father and mother of railway employees.iii. Increasing the scholarship for the girl child ofgangmen and group'D' employees to '1,200 per month for higher education.iv. Setting up of a Railway Vidyalaya Prabandhan Board (RVPB) toimprove quality of education to children studying in 269 railway schools.T?r,e Board will draw up a plan for improving the physical and educationalinfrastructure of these schools to be implemented in a time frame of threeyears.v. In order to provide easy access to medical facilities in remote andinaccessible areas for our employees, it is proposed to provide 20 MedicalRoad Medical Vans at different locations to begin with.vi.20 hostels for children of railway employees have been commissionedand another 20 would be set up next year.vii. Ministry is undertaking restructuring of all the cadres in the railwaysto afford adequate promotional opportunities to the officers and staff'

-z-6) RecruitmentAfter the new recruitrnent policy announced last year, recruitment processhas already been set in motion for filling the vacancies ofabout 1.75 lakh inGroup 'C' and Group 'D' posts. Steps have also been taken to fill up about13,000 posts in Railway Protection Force. These mega recruitment driveswill cover the backlog of SC/ST/physically handicapped quota.7) TrainingTo enhance skills of our frontline staff in dealing with the customers, atraining centre is proposed to be started at Kharagpur. Alsomultidisciplinary training centres would be set up at Dharwad, Kolkata andPune including an exclusive international centre at Agra. A new basicTraining Centre at Kurseong is proposed to cater to the needs of NortheastFrontier Railway including Darjeeling - Himalayan Railway.8) Railways will continue to strengthen the sports infrastructure and openmore sports academies, stadia and multi-purpose halls.
