“Malcolm would always tell me: don’t tickel it, hit the bugger!” - Angus Young

Page 5: High Voltage

First off I’m going to talk a little about the start of the band. The brothers, Malcolm, Angus and George Young was born in

Glasgow, Scotland, but moved to Australia to-gether with most of their family in 1963. In 1973 Malcolm Young and Angus Young formed AC/DC, and brought new band members, bassist Larry van Kriedt, vocalist Dave Evans and Colin Bur-gess as a drummer.

They got the idea of the name AC/DC after see-ing it written under a Sewing Machine. There were many different replacements in the begin-ning; Burgess was the first member getting fired. Already at that time Angus had his distinctive school uniform, an idea from his sister Margaret. In September 1974, Bon Scott replaced Evans. The band had only played in a single with Evans, with the tracks «Can I Sit Next to You, Girl» and «Rockin’ in the Parlour». The first track was played inn all over again with Scott under the name «Can I Sit Next to You Girl», and was released on the Australian version of T.N.T, and on the international issue of High Voltage. Today AC/DC is still playing live and released a new al-bum in 2008 named “Black Ice”. Witch sold for 1, 7 millions items the first week, and went up in the lists of top albums in a total amount of 29 coun-

tries. The second vocalist of AC/DC, Bon Scott, died 19th February 1980 after heavy drinking in the city. It’s speculated that he swallowed his own puke.

He was also alcohol poisoned. More things re-garding AC/DC was their success. Their debut album came in 1975 and was the Australian ver-sion of High Voltage. The album was recorded on only 10 days. On this time the band had a stable crew with the Young brothers, Scott as a vocal-ist, and Mark Evans on Bass guitar, while Phil Rudd played the drums. In the time from 1974 till 1977 the band was one of the most popular and successfull in Australia, thanks to a lot of Ap-pearances on international television. In 1976 the band signed an international record deal with Atlantic Records, and toured through Europe.

They were the heating band for including Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Kiss and Blue Öyster Cult. The band gave out the international version of High Voltage in 1976, and sold 3 million exam-ples. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap was released the same year. After the release of Let There Be Rock from 1977, Mark Evans was fired during conflicts with Angus Young. He was replaced with Cliff Williams.

“I’m starting off to talk about one of the most popular and famous rock bands in the history of 1970-90. They went from being a band practicing in the garage to give out singles selling for millions. It’s time for a little AC/DC lesson.“

The death of the beloved Bon Scott affected AC/DC a lot. Losing a member was a terrible thing for AC/DC to get past. It’s speculated that Bon

Scott died swallowing his own puke. But what he did die of for sure was alcohol poisoning, after a wild night out on clubs. He was at a later point replaced by Brian Johnson. This kind of brought the band to-gether again after losing a beloved AC/DC member. At that point AC/DC was back on top with a new vocalist. After that day, AC/DC has been on the top again ever since. But this year, they might get into more bad times. A rumor says that Brian Johnson (Vocalist) has gotten cancer.

If this turns out to be correct, AC/DC might need a new vocalist, or might call it the end of AC/DC. Witch I bet the fans don’t want to happened. AC/DC has finished their Black Ice world tour. Going on a total amount of 3 trips to Norway playing suc-cessful concerts. AC/DC has been awarded several times. One of them was for Angus young which was awarded as the songwriters of the year, 2010. At the last part of the article, I’m going to talk a little bit about Brian Johnson. AC/DC’s current vocalist, He was born at 5th October 1947 in Dunston, Gates-head, England. He took over the job as a vocalist in the band after that Bon Scott died in 1980. The band’s first album with Johnson as a vocalist, Back in Black, was given out later the same year and is the bands most selling album, on

second place of the world’s most sold album just under Michael Jackson’s album Thriller on first place. Before Brian was included in AC/DC, he played blues/rock in the band Gordie. He is performing on stage in an old sixpence, and the same typical clothes that he has used since he came in the band. Brian Johnson is now gotten positive cancer, as the rumor says. At this point I’m unsure if they still play concerts around the world. I’m now finishing off this article with a hope that you as a readerhave learned something new about AC/DC and might start listen-ing to them, and maybe become a fan of them too.
