The Foaming ProcessThefoamingprocessisperhapsthemostcomplexexistinginpolymerprocessing,involvingseveralresincharacteristics,equipmentcapabilitiesandformulations.Ingeneraltermstheblowingagentsareinjectedathighpressuresintothemoltenpolymer.ThismixtureishomogenizedandiscooledtotemperaturessignificantlylowerthanforinjectionmoldingPPproducts.Atthislowertemperature,thepressureisreducedatthedieexitandthedissolvedgasisnolonger
stableinsidethepolymer,formingcellsthatexpand.Chemicalfoamingagentsarealsousedtonucleatethefoamprovidingamoreuniformcellstructure.
HMSofferssomeimportantsuperiorcharacteristicssuchashighdissolutioncapacityoftheexpansiongaswithhighsolubility,resultingingreateruniformityofcellstructureandabilitytoreachlowerdensitieswithhighermeltstrength.
