Sober Living Homes are Lightly Regulated

• Alcohol- and drug-free houses are not required to be licensed nor are they eligible for licensure.

• By definition, they do not provide alcohol or drug recovery or treatment services and are, therefore, not subject to regulation or oversight by the State Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP).

Alcoholism Stats

• It is estimated that there are about 14 million alcoholics in the United states.

• Some statistics suggest that upper class males of European decent are some of the most susceptible to abusing alcohol http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/Controversies/1116895242.html

Veterans Housing Assistance

• HUD allocated nearly 38,000 “Housing Choice” vouchers across the country. A housing subsidy is paid to the landlord directly by the local public housing authority on behalf of the participating Veteran. The Veteran then pays the difference between the actual rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by the program.

There Are Grants to Help With Rent

• California receives more grant funds from U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) than any other state in the nation to help address the issue of veteran homelessness. The State got nearly $16 million, about 25 percent of all the grant money going to local public housing agencies across the country. http://www.calvet.ca.gov/News/2013/05/30.aspx
