It is a large apartment on the top of the Ritz Carlton residence tower in the centerof the Canadian city of Toronto. The views from here are stunning: the city on onesite and lake Ontario with the islands on the other side. It is 6200 sq feet of lightwith modern interior design and art. The biggest space is the combined living, din-ing and television area with a direct view on the CN Tower. In the other corner ofthe apartment is the kitchen situated wit its own sitting area. The rest is of thespace is occupied by the master bedroom, the master bathroom, a library and 3bedrooms with their own bathrooms.The interior is designed by Fernanda Dovigi, MD design, who lives here with herhusband and two children. “Light was my leading factor here. I designed it withflexibility in mind. If I create an interiors, I always take in consideration that whenYou want to sell it, other people can use it their way. You must keep it flexible.”

She grew up in Brazil in a family of painters and artists,went to business school specializing in fashion marketing,and became an interior designer.Fernanda: “This comes natural to me. I fell attracted to es-thetics and beautiful things. Love to go to art galleries anddesign showrooms in New York, Miami or anywhere else.Before I start on an project, I always know in advance whatfurniture goes in. It generally takes me five hours to makea plan for a new project.”Questioned whether she designs interiors for others, shereplied: “ No not really. Did not have had the time for that.We have so many projects ourselves. My husband loves tobuy houses, apartments, cottages but never with the idea

to sell them. Most of the time people love the places we have created and want to buythem. For example our Muskoka cottage. I designed the interior in a modern way, not likethe usual Muskoka style. Has to convince my husband of this modern approach but nowhe loves it. In Brazil we are used to a modern, somehow Californian interior style with aopen concept and a lot of light. I always incorporate lots of windows in my designs. Incombination with different textures it is the basic for comfort.”The comfort aspect goes certainly for the furniture. She loves clean lines and comfort. Ifit is not confortable, she doesn’t use it in her designs. Often she has the furniture shewants to use, adjusted to her wishes to enhance the comfort. A red line in her creationsare the artworks that she collects herself from the major art centers in the world.
