Hi, Hei, Hallo, Ciao, Salut, Nǐ hǎo, Namasté, Konnichiwa, Olá, Zdravstvuyte!

Thank you so much for downloading my comprehensive travel phrase guide. This travel

phrase guide features 22 languages around the globe and 22 of the most useful phrases

    that will transform your travels.

You don’t need to be fluent in a language to have meaningful interactions with the locals

and create memories that will last a lifetime, but you can be fluent enough for travel.

Learning to use just a few keywords and phrases can do wonders for enhancing your

travel experiences. Plus, it’s a great way to show respect and make a good first

    impression.

This is why I not only write detailed destination guides and create informative videos, I

also create free travel phrase guides and online language courses to help smart and

savvy travellers like you get the most out of their travel experiences through the power of

    language.

Hi! I'm Michele, an Australian language and travel blogger and ‘guide’ behind The

Intrepid Guide. I help my readers enrich their travels with beautiful and detailed

destinations guides, free travel phrase guides, and effective online language courses

so they can enjoy meaningful interactions with the locals and avoid being treated like a

tourist. Over the past few years, I've travelled the world and learned several foreign

languages using my unique building-block method which is the basis of all my language

    courses.

  • How to use this guide This guide is designed to be quick, fun and easy to consume and to whet your appetite for

    languages.

Step 1. Focus on learning one language language at a time. This guide is meant to be a long-term

resource you can refer to as you travel around the world and prepare for future trips and

need to brush up on some essential phrases.

Step 2. Spend 5-10 minutes a day at least a week before you trip revising your target languages.

You can use spaced repetition apps like Quizlet to help you review and retain what you’ve

learned. On top of that, also practicing saying things out loud, this is another great way to

improve your memory when you hear your own voice say the words.

Aim for uninterrupted study time when you’ll be most alert.

Step 3.  Use my secret weapon to remember these new phrases!

Being able to remember vocabulary isn’t a special power bestowed on those who have the

‘language gene’ (which doesn’t exist). It’s a learned skill. Remembering takes practice.

A practice that follows a simple method and my secret language learning weapon.

    It’s called: Memory hooks!

  • Memory hooks is where language learning breakthroughs happen. Here’s how it works.

A memory hook is where you map (or connect) something new with something you

already know. This way, you think of the 'hook' and work backwards to reach the new

    learned material.

For example, the subject pronoun he in Italian is lui (loo-ee), and she is lei (lay), so your

memory hook could be King Louis and Princess Leila. There's your memory hook!

Creating memory hooks is a very personal process. It can take time to find the right

memory hook that will help you connect the dots. But when you do, it’s magic!

Spend time creating your own memory hooks for the phrases in this guide and you’ll be

speaking the local lingo in no time!

Step 4. Once you arrive at your final destination, put into practice what you’ve learned straight

away. Start small with greetings then build up to asking questions as you gain more

    confidence.

Remember, have fun using the language. Don’t be afraid to ask people to repeat

themselves or to speak slower so you can understand them. Smile, and when in doubt

refer to this guide, use gestures, or use Google Translate. With that said, let’s jump right

    in!
