ForewordForewordIn its endeavor to provide social security cover to millions of India's work force covered under ESI

Scheme, major thrust is being given for providing quality health care through ESIC Hospitals to the beneficiaries of ESI Scheme. ESIC is providing medical care in the form of medical treatment and attendance to IPs and their families in respect of medical, surgical and obstetric treatment under Section 56 of ESI Act. The provision includes domiciliary visits, outpatient treatment, specialist consultation, diagnostics facilities, inpatient treatment, super specialist treatment, referral treatment, old age medical care and physical rehabilitation.

The cash benefits under ESI Scheme are Sickness Benefit, Extended Sickness Benefit, Enhanced Sickness Benefit, Disablement Benefit - both temporary and permanent disablement, Dependant's Benefit and Maternity Benefit. Unemployment Allowances under the Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojna is also an additional Cash Benefit.

Since the year 1952, ESIC has come a long way in establishing hospitals in various parts of the country. The Corporation has, so far, set up 150 Hospitals and 42 Hospital Annexes, 1372/91 dispensaries/ISM Units. Super Speciality treatment is also available in some of the ESI Hospitals. The cases are referred to Tie-up Hospitals (about 800 in nos.) empanelled in each region, wherever such Super Speciality facilities are not available in ESI Hospitals.

To adapt with the changing health delivery scenario in the country and also to be the best in terms of infrastructure and other facilities, ESIC has chalked out an ambitious programme for modernization of its existing hospitals. The modernization programme is being implemented in a phased manner. Efforts are on to add state-of-the-art facilities in terms of machinery and equipments as per the requirement. The medical institutions of ESIC are striving to be 'Centers of Excellence'.

The Hand Book 'Arogyam' gives a brief of the facilities provided by 34 ESIC Hospitals directly run by the Corporation. (Other 116 ESI Hospitals are functioning under the control of the respective State Governments, as per the mandate of ESI Act, 1948). All efforts have been made to include user friendly details for the benefits of our Stakeholders.

I am sure that this Hand Book will be of great help to the Stakeholders of ESIC, especially the Insured Persons and their family members, particularly in the context when the IPs can avail the treatment at any of the hospitals of ESIC as per their choice.

The 200 bedded, ISO: 2008 certified hospital has out-patient and in-patient facilities with

all necessary infrastructures. With the renovation of the hospital under phase – I, the bed

strength will go up to 250 and is expected to start some ne super-speciality services like

plastic surgery, medical oncology and gastroenterology . In-patient facilities are provided in

Inaugurated on 30th April, 2011, this Hospital is the first Super Speciality Hospital of ESIC. The

hospital was planned to provide super speciality facilities by ESIC doctors in the disciplines

of Cardiology & Cardio Thoracic Surgery, Neurology & Neuro Surgery, Nephrology &

Urology and Paediatric Surgery. With 100 beds, the hospital is fully air conditioned with all

modern facilities for the OPD & indoor patients and also has ICCU, Cath Lab, ICU, Dialysis Unit

and state-of-the-art modular operation theaters, 3 Tesla MRI & 128 slice CT machine. The

OPD of the hospital gets around 250 referred cases per day from various hospitals. The

Located in the eastern most corner of Guwahati city adjacent to the borders of

Meghalaya, the hospital is well connected by road with the rest of the city of Guwahati.

The hospital was commissioned in 1985. Initially, the hospital was run under ESI Scheme,

Govt. of Assam and was taken over by ESIC on 4th April, 2003. It is the only referral hospital in

Commissioned on 1st December, 1971 with bed strength of 150, today, it is a 600 bedded multi-disciplinary hospital which also serves as a referral centre for other ESI Hospitals of Delhi and NCR. An ISO 9001-2008 (OQS) certified and rated as “H-2” Category by ICRA, the hospital

been a referral hospital for the other ESI Hospitals of Karnataka. Under the Model Hospital Scheme, it was

handed over by the State Government to ESIC on 1.4.2003. From a humble beginning with 100 beds,

the bed strength has now gone up to 500. The Hospital offers post graduate courses in 8 specialities and

The 150 bedded Multi Speciality Hospital with a campus area of 16.2 acres of

land is situated in the remote village of Ezhukone in the District of Kollam and is a

referral centre for IPs attached to 13 ESI Dispensaries. The hospital provides service

to more than 1 Lakh IPs and their families. The Casualty, OPDs, Laboratory, Ayurveda

Unit, Plaster room, Male Medical Ward & ICU are situated in the A-Block. Administrative

offices, Physiotherapy, X-Ray & ECG are in the ground floor of B-Block. The OT

Accredited with ISO 9001: 2000, the 330 bedded ESIC Hospital, K.K.Nagar, Chennai, which is a

model speciality hospital, is catering to the medical needs of around 7 lakhs ESI Insured

persons of Chennai City besides giving treatment to the patients referred from other parts of the

country. ESIC took over the hospital from Tamil Nadu Government on 1.4.1991 and later on it was

converted into an Occupational Disease Centre for South Zone. During 2011 the hospital was

Specialized Comprehensive cum Diagnostic services on

The 100 bedded ESIC Hospital with state-of-the-art equipments , constructed in 2.15 acres of land

will provide good quality secondary health care services to 1.44 lakhs of insured persons and 5.5

lakhs beneficiaries in southern part of Tamil Nadu, particularly of Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and

Kanyakumari districts. The OPD services were started with effect from 16th April, 2012. Presently, the

OPD is managed by part-time specialists in five departments Viz. Surgery, Paediatrics, General

Medicine, Orthopaedics and O&G. The process of appointing part-time Ophthalmologist, Dentist,

and Ayurvedic Physician is in progress. On an average, per day, 100 investigations in Microbiology /

Biochemistry/ Pathology are conducted by the clinical laboratory of the hospital and nearly 10-15

ECGs are taken. Efforts are being made to appoint more specialists, General Duty Medical Officers

and Para-medical staff.

The hospital is conducting two medical camps in each month, one at the Hospital premises and one

outside the Hospital. For secondary and care / diagnostic procedure, at present the cases are

referred to tie-up hospitals and diagnostic centers.

Facilitation centre, Sankalp ( for HIV), DOTS centre and

Yoga centre. Diabetic Clinic, Rectal Clinic and Well Baby

Clinic are being run on Wednesday, Friday and Wednesday

respectively. Regular health check-up camps are held in the

hospital and at the premises of the employers.

Diagnostic Services

Laboratory facilities for blood and body fluid,

histopathology, radiology with ultrasound are available. For

special investigations like CECT, MRI, TMT, ECHO etc. the

hospital has got tie-up arrangement with best available

diagnostic centres.

The 300 bedded newly constructed hospital is providing secondary health care

with all facilities for outpatient and inpatient treatment. The hospital also provides

AYUSH services. Out of the nine operation theatres, two are fully imported

modular state-of-the –art – operation theatre. The hospital has a modernized labour

room with separate operation theatre for gynec. & obst. emergency. Besides the

neonatal intensive care unit, two intensive care units, one each for medicine and

surgery. The Opthalmology department is equipped with latest equipments like Laser,

OCT, Angiography etc. This is the only ESIC hospital where retinal surgeries are

performed.

The 300 bed strength ISO certified hospital is situated in the south west part of

Kolkata. The hospital is providing quality secondary care services. It also functions

as an occupational disease centre for the eastern zone of India and is playing an

important role in identifying dreaded occupational diseases. Round the clock in-

patient, OT, labour room, radio diagnostic, PACCU, NICU, ambulance services,

Ayurveda OPD services, etc. are provided by the hospital. Wellness van has been

introduced to provide preventive and promotive services at the factory level as well as

at the residence of the beneficiaries. The hospital also conducts regular health check-

up camps at the work places. Recently, post graduate course has been started in the

department of Gyne & Obst. (MS course).
