VOL.4 NO.4 October 2012
At HGA, we have been fortunate in having dedicated and committed men of high integrityat the helm of affairs right from its inception 19 years back. The last 10 years has been
very trying and it is to the credit of the management that they have not succumbed to the
numerous pressures that they were subjected to by the so called activists and self-promoting NGO's. The Honorary Secretary of the Club as its Chief Executive Officer is indirect line of fire in most of these on-going activities. In addition to this he has the task ofrunning the club and managing its future where the buzz word is growth.
The present incumbent occupying this chair of the Secretary is Captain B.L.K.Reddy.Kant to some and BLK to others he had been a Joint Secretary for a yearbefore taking over as the Secretary for the last 4 years. As an IAF pilothe had seen action in the Bangladesh war and has been inthe thick of action at the HGA. A pilot cum farmer cum land
developer he has totally devoted the last 4 years to thecause of HGA. The fruits of his labour are apparent. Wenow have a 16 hole golf course which is the bestmaintained in the twin cities, a very popular ClubHouse with a fine eatery and a hugely popular party
venue.
I first ran into Kant some 30 years ago at SchipholAirport. Both of us were then e m p l o y e d b y D u t c hcompanies and it was natural that we made frequent visits
to that country. For a long time both our Dutch associationand meetings at airports continued. He used to visitHyderabad for short sojourns in between his flying duties.Being an avid golfer he would head straight to the Army GolfCourse at Bolarum during these visits and that is where we kept ourassociation going.
I wanted to provide our readers with an inside kaleidoscopic view of the travails andsuccesses at HGA during his tenure and invited Kant for a walk the talk interview. During allthese years it has been an education to talk to him on a number of varied subjects like for
example how things functioned in a remote corner of Nigeria. This time around it wasanother type of education to talk to this officer, golfer and more so a gentleman and get toknow his views on a number of subjects pertaining to HGA. Details of this journey throughtime follow in the subsequent pages.
thWe had our Nineteenth Annual General Body on the 30 of September. This is covered in thisissue.

By The Rules
Two friends were playing golf one day.
They decided that they would adherestrictly to the rules with no improving
their lie. After a few holes, one guy'sball landed on a cart path.
As he reached down to pick up his ballto get rel ief his fr iend said,"We agreed that we would not improveour lie.
N o m a t t e rhow much thefirst fellowt r i e d t oexplain thath e w a sentitled to thisr e l i e f , t h esecond felloww o u l d n o t
allow it. Sothe man wentto the cart toget a club.
As he stoodover the ballhe took a fewpractice swings, each time scraping the
club on the pavement, taking out bigchunks of blacktop and sending out lotsof sparks!
Finally, after several practice swings hetook his shot. The ball took off andlanded on the green about 6 feet fromthe pin.
Great shot!" his friend exclaimed.
"What club did you use?
"YOUR 7-iron!" he replied.
Alternate Shot
A golfer playing in a two-man alternateshot tournament drove his tee shot tothe edge of the green on a par-3 hole.
