The geocentric model

The geocentric model was developed thousands of years ago by Greek philosophers and was the accepted model of the Solar System for centuries. Geocentric actually means earth centred. This model is also called the Ptolemaic system in honour of the Greek scientist and philosopher Claudius Ptolemy, although the theory was around years before him. The geocentric model places the Earth at the centre of the universe with the Sun, Moon, stars, and planets circling it.

The heliocentric model

The heliocentric model, which means sun centred, gradually replaced the geocentric model. This new system places the Sun at the centre of the Solar System with the Earth and all the other planets orbiting it. This theory revolutionized everything because it reversed centuries of established opinion. Although the idea of a heliocentric model had been around as early as 200 B.C., it did not gain popularity until the 16th century.

Scientists

Nicolaus Copernicus invited the early theory of the heliocentric model from about 1510-1514, he later wrote his book commentariolus

Isaac Newtons

Isaac newtons discovery of gravity assisted in proving the heliocentric model, he believed in the heliocentric because his laws of gravity is " all mass attracts each other"

Khayyan believed in the heliocentric model in his poem "Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam (First Edition)" in the first lines he says "the Stone that puts the Stars to Flight"

Johannes Kepler, He believes that all the planets in the universe revolve around a sun in circles but he believed in heliocentric so much it did not explain why there are meteors flying around the universe his theory was flawed he later accepted the fact that his theory was flawed but there is still no answer to why our solar system is so round.

Galileo Galilei

Galileo Galilei was a scientist who believed in heliocentrism because he fought for belief in heliocentrism but was doubted because of the missing star parallax

Claudius Ptolemy

Claudius Ptolemy was a geographer, an astrologer, mathematician and an astronomer who had invented geometric models therefore he believed in geometrism, but did not believe that he had found the knowledge himself but from elders whereas people today suggest that he was completely independent in his work.

Pythagoras Pythagoras believes that the world rotated

around a great fire in the centre of the earth. He also believed that every over planet in the solar system rotated around earth. One of the reasons for this was that when the sun rises and sets it looks like the sun is going around the earth. The same was with the stars. At the time the Geocentric model of the universe was very common and was used a lot.
