P3 &P4; P5 – P7 School Association Autumn Disco The School Association will be holding their annual Autumn disco on Thursday 26th October. It has been decided to split the year groups this year to ensure that everyone who wishes to buy tickets can do. Tickets will go on sale before and after school from Friday 6th October. They cost £1.50

P1 & P2 School Association Superhero PartyChildren in primaries 1 & 2 can come to a special party dressed as their favourite superhero on Tuesday 31st October. Again tickets, costing £1.50 can be bought before and after school from Friday 6th October.

Nursery NewsThis week nursery has had a science focus with the children interested in experiments. We have been mixing colours in ice cube trays to use as paints. The children are becoming more aware of the changing season and we will be looking at Autumn in more detail next week.

We say thank you to our two PGDE students, Mrs Mitchell and Mr Thomson who leave us to go back to university. They have had a valuable experience in nursery and will return in November to carry placements in school.

The parent consultation times are in the cloakroom for parents to sign up to. It would be nice for Miss Young to formally meet and chat about your child’s progress. Thank you.

Edinburgh University Music StudentsWe have once again been asked to host music students from Edinburgh University as part of their studies. They will be with us until Christmas and will work with primary 2 children on a weekly basis. Previous feedback from these sessions has been extremely positive and I am sure that the children will thoroughly enjoy them.

Rugby Festival at Leith AcademyPrimary 4 children have received rugby coaching from Leith Rugby Club on a weekly basis. This is culminating in a festival which will be held at Leith Academy on Thursday 12th October.

Scottish OperaScottish Opera will be coming into school next Thursday (12th October) to work with Primary 6 & Primary 7 children on an opera entitled “Tam o’Shanter”. The children will continue working on their performance with a view to performing to parent and carers on the afternoon of November 2nd. Details regarding this performance will follow at a later date.

Boardmaker in Libraries

As many of you will know, we use a computer programme called Boardmaker to make visual supports for children. These symbols support the children in planning their day and making good choices. Leith Library is offering parents and carers the use of this resource during their opening hours. These drop-in sessions offer support in how to use Boardmaker; look at examples of visual support resources along with the opportunity to make your own visual supports.

The sessions will be held on October 13th 10.15 – 11.30am, November 6th 6.30 - 8.00pm, and December 8th 10.15 – 11.30am

Further information can be obtained from the local library.
