years. They have a lovely family of 3 children, and 11grandkids. Jack’s favorite job prior to Sheldon Mead-ows was working at Excel Office where he deliveredand set up furniture. Being a brakeman for the rail-road was very interesting as well.

Jack had a CB radio in his house & garagewhere his handle was, appropriately, “Handyman.”For example, he just finished building new cherrycupboards in his barn, and he even built the desk heworks at every day. A fun fact about Jack is that hecreated a parade float that he works on with hisfamily. His float started with two large gingerbreadon it, and now it has become a complete gingerbreadfamily with two gingerbread children sitting on cute

wooden rocking horses. Hedecorated it with lights, and ithas been in several parades. Ithas won awards and it ispretty amazing.

Jack will be retiringsoon. He has been such awonderful employee and says,”He will miss everyone!” Hewill continue to fix things, one of the favorite things heloves to do here, as he makesa new deck around his pooland remodels his barn. Wewill miss his smile aroundhere, but we wish him thevery best in his retirement! Wethank him for all he has doneat Sheldon Meadows!

Jack has been our Maintenance Manager forfour years. When asked, he said his favorite day hereis Safety Day where he gets to light things on fire andteach all about safety. I believe some safety skills helearned the hard way. For instance, he enjoyedsnowmobile racing on an ice track at HudsonvilleFairgrounds (perhaps not the safest sport.) He wonseveral trophies racing, but a 2nd place trophy heearned was memorable. He was winning the racewhen the 2nd place snowmobile decided to broad-side him. Jack flipped over his windshield and wentflying. He restarted his snowmobile, finished the raceand came in second. Then, he promptly went to thehospital where he received stitches in his badly in-jured knee. He loved pushinghimself and his machineswhenever he went snowmo-biling, dirt biking, and mo-torcycling.

Jack grew up in ForestGrove and worked at Smalle-gan’s Slaughter House, wherehe earned enough to buy hisown house at age 19. He livedthere for 15 years until hebuilt his current house in For-est Grove. Jack worked forHolland Die Cast, until hemet a beautiful woman, Pam,who caught his eye. He re-fused to date someone whoworked with him, so he quit, and asked her out. She hasbeen his wife for over 44
