Megalithic SiteB a r w a d i h P u n k h a r iB a r k a g a o n , H a z a r i b a g h
The Barwadhi Punkree megalithic site and its environs are
covered with Iron-slag remains. Iron-slag is found to
underlie almost all old habitation sites thoughout the
Karanpura vally, and present village of this vally are
definitely continuation of pre-historic dwelling or
settlement sites. Megalithic sites being in proximity of
iron-slag sites it is assumed that the iron smelters while
taking advantage of the iron-ore available in the hill ranges
(Mahudi, Sati and Satpahar ranges) and the flanks of the rift
valley (Aswa pahar, and Hudwa ranges) built dwelling
sites in old megalithic sites

Stone circle - This is located in Bhainpur
village (Lat- 23 33′ Long- 85 36′) of
Ramgarh district. This circle is made up
of some vertical and many horizontal
granite stones. This was made by
MUNDA tribe as a tribal burial site. On
the basis of the study of artifacts , it is
believed that circle was constructed
around 600 B.C.
Sun Wheel - This monument is made
inside the stone circle of Bhainpur
village. It is a sun wheel, which
represents the sun, and its four
quadrants – the four seasonal cycles of
the year.
Menhir - A few meters away from the
stone circle of Bhainpur village is a
“menhir”. The purpose of this stone is to
mark the boundary of the village. This
was the Mundari custom of making their
villages in ancient times.

Ichak Group of TemplesI C H A K ( H A Z A R I B A G H )
The 'HO' tribals used to pray the nature,
fire & they were the biggest worshipers
of Shiv Lingas. We find at many places
along the subernrekha river the
habitation of this primitive tribe and Shiv
Lingas installed at these places, Delbera
is one of the important sites which has
three shivlingas placed at intervals and
one of the old structure of the temple
having one of the Shiv Lingas can be
seen here which requires urgent
conservation and beautification.
The remains of a larger temple
construction can been seen around this
small temple which people says has
been destroyed with time. A scientific
clearance of the area surrounding the
small temple may give us some good
region
Extremely significant local historical
implication, since the temple dates
basck to the creation of the small village
of Ichak, into the Capital of the Ramgarh
Raja sometime quite soon after 1772 and by about 8 years
predates the formation of the district headquarters at Hazaribagh
town nearby, at which the Ramgarh Batallion was then stationed.
As stated here is a complex of temples around it and the area
covers a few acres with a wall around it.

ChatraI T K H O R I
Itkhori, a block headquarter within Chatra district. Itkhori lies north of Hazaribagh, about 16 kms west of Chouparan to be more precise. It is a wonderful place with abundance of historic reminiscences and a r c h a e o l o g i c a l r e m n a n t s demonstrating a breathtaking saga of religious tolerance and cultural unity. More than 1200 years ago the great Pala and Gupta emperors looked out from the terrace of the
magnificent Maa Bhadrakali temple complex built during 9th Century. The workmanship of the images and statues indicate a highly developed heritage of skills in the finer arts. And if wonders were to follow wonders, the Shiva-linga in the adjacent temple has no less than 1008 'lingams' carved into its surface. Images of 104 Bodhisattvas and 4 principal Buddhas are sculpted on each side of a 'stupa'-like structure. Close by is a stone slab with foot-impressions on its surface - believed to be that of Sheetalnath, the 10th Tirthankara of the Jain religion.
Pandra Group of Temples, Nirsa, Dhanbad
It is also known as Baba Kapilaeshwar
Dham/Pandra group of temples are in
slight curvilinear 'Sikhra' in Bengal style
with horizontal tier system with slightly
evolved Raths in Pancharatha whereas
the Mukhmandapa has flat roof with
ornamental piller & multiple curvilinear
arches.
These temples are built of stone in 12-13
centuries A.D . It is related to the
Mahabharta period when Pandavas had
spent some time here.
The temple structure, made of stones,
has been plastered and white washed by
the locals changing the basic texture of
the structure. It is desired that immediate
conservation and restoration works may
be carried out to take out the original
structure

A part of Doisa Nagar, it is situated in

HOLILMUGHAL ERA'S WELLOVERHEAD WATER TANK
MAINA BIBI's TOMB
MINT/TAKSAL
Geographically on one side of the Rajmahal River Ganges
is flowing and on the other side it is surrounded by mighty
mountain ranges. It had gone through many ups and
downs in its very existence. Its past had been embedded
with glory and now the region is lying in oblivion. Its
history dates back to mid 15th century.
It is also believed that Rajput clan lead by Raja Udai Singh
had also their presence in this area, when King Shashank
had shifted his capital from Gaur in Malda (West Bengal)
to Rajmahal. Udai nala (now Udhawa Nala) flowing eight
kilometers east of Rajmahal was the place where Lord
Clive caught Nawab Sirajjudaula while crossing the nala.
This place came into lime light during 1580 / 1595 during
Mughal regime when Emperor Akbar made Raja Man
Singh the Subedar of Bengal Region who had made
Rajmahal its headquarters. He used to control entire
Bengal, Orissa, Assam & Bihar from here.

Prabhat Roy. The most important and
impressive part of this fort is its main
gate which is said to be of Nagpuri

wide. One can find the description of
this fort in many focal songs of the
region mentioning that the torch

from the top of the Rohtasgarh Fort.

The fort is a great attraction for the
tourist visiting the Palamu forest
reserve . The fort is losing its identity
and needs to conserve & protected.
The history of the Sahebganj district is
available from the 13th Century when
Teliagarhi became the main gateway of
Muslim armies marching to and from
Bengal. During the Turkish dynasty rule
in Delhi, Malik Ikhtiaruddin-bin-
Bakhtiar Khilji marched towards Bengal
and Assam through Teliagrahi pass. He
captured Bengal and i ts king
Lakshaman Sena fled away to Cooch
Behar. In 1538, Sher Shah Suri and
Humayun came face to face for a
decisive battle near Teliagarhi.
This historic fort is lying in a dilapidated
condition losing its glorius past. Now
railway line is crossing though a portion
of the fort and the very existence of the
fort itself is at a stake.
