Did YouKnow????

Burr Ridge Garden Club Ghourd Bird Houses

I can't believe it is July. Just for the record I think I

say that every year. July is always a celebratory

month at my house. I was born in July. I got married

in July. I found out that I was going to be a grand-

mother for the first time in July. So just the month

itself brings a smile to my face. I find myself remi-

niscing about the many happy July's I have spent.

Many were spent watching my boys play baseball and

my daughter play softball. Now I play with my grand-

daughters. I took my granddaughters to the pool yes-

terday and my ever inquisitive Mady questioned why I

had funny marks on my legs (varicose veins) so I told

her they were old lady legs. Quickly she responded

"why do you have old lady legs?" I told her I had

earned every mark on my way to being an old lady.

She just looked at me funny - and I thought of all the

July's that I had spent earning those marks. Isn't it

fun that the month starts off with a big fireworks dis-

play for my month of celebration. Hope you find

something to celebrate. It is often the little things

that are the most special - like spending a couple of

hours at the pool with my granddaughters. That is my

kind of celebration!

HISTORY EXAM - Don't look at the answers until AFTER you take the test!!!!How much do you really remember about what went on in your life?

Should I Really Join Facebook? When I bought my Blackberry, I thoughtabout the 30-year business I ran with 1800employees, all without a cell phone that playsmusic, takes videos, pictures and communi-cates with Facebook and Twitter. I signed upunder duress for Twitter and Facebook, so myseven kids, their spouses, my 13 grand kidsand 2 great grand kids could communicatewith me in the modern way. I figured I couldhandle something as simple as Twitter withonly 140 characters of space. My phone wasbeeping every three minutes with the detailsof everything except the bowel movements ofthe entire next generation.

I am not ready to live like this. I keep mycell phone in the garage in my golf bag.

The kids bought me a GPS for my last birth-day because they say I get lost every now andthen going over to the grocery store or library.I keep that in a box under my tool bench withthe Blue tooth [it's red] phone I am supposedto use when I drive. I wore it once and was

standing in line at Barnes and Noble talkingto my wife and everyone in the nearest 50yards was glaring at me. I had to take my hear-ing aid out to use it, and I got a little loud. Imean the GPS looked pretty smart on mydash board, but the lady inside that gadget wasthe most annoying, rudest person I had runinto in a long time. Every 10 minutes, shewould sarcastically say, "Re-calc-u-lating."You would think that she could be nicer. Itwas like she could barely tolerate me. Shewould let go with a deep sigh and then tell meto make a U-turn at the next light. Then if Imade a right turn instead. Well, it was not agood relationship.

When I get really lost now, I call my wifeand tell her the name of the cross streets andwhile she is starting to develop the same toneas Gypsy, the GPS lady, at least she loves me.

To be perfectly frank, I am still trying tolearn how to use the cordless phones in ourhouse. We have had them for 4 years, but Istill haven't figured out how I lose three

phones all at once and have to run around dig-ging under chair cushions, checking bath-rooms, and the dirty laundry baskets when thephone rings.

The world is just getting too complex forme. They even mess me up every time I go tothe grocery store. You would think they couldsettle on something themselves but this sud-den "Paper or Plastic?" every time I check outjust knocks me for a loop. I bought some ofthose cloth reusable bags to avoid lookingconfused, but I never remember to take themwith me. Now I toss it back to them. Whenthey ask me, "Paper or plastic?" I just say,"Doesn't matter to me. I am bi-sacksual."Then it's their turn to stare at me with a blanklook.

I was recently asked if I tweet. I answered,No, but I do fart a lot."

We senior citizens don't need any more gadg-ets. The TV remote and the garage door re-mote are about all we can handle.
