— Western States Hereford Reno Sale —

An elite set of genetics is set to sell in Reno again this year. With picks, heifers, bulls, and embryo’s all included in the offering. We’ve assembled some great options to improve your herd and share the great herds of the west.

These are exciting times in the Hereford breed and we’re seeing opportunity that we haven’t seen in years. Our breeders, junior programs and enthusiasm for all things Hereford are fueling positive energy like never before.

Join us as we wrap up another year of Hereford fun in Reno! Bring an extra kid or neighbor and show them the special bond we have as Hereford breeders.

We look forward to seeing you in Reno!

Sincerely,Scott Holt

Thanks to Mark Holt, Boehringer Ingelheim for Sale Cattle Preview Sponsorship.

— Western States Hereford Association —

For over 50 years, the WSHA has been made up of a board of directors, from all walks of life, which are appointed to the board by their perspective associations dedicated to Hereford cattle. They have spent countless hours, organizing all the aspects of the event we call Hereford Reno. Last year, we updated our entry system for both the Junior and Open shows to a computer-based system. This year, the board has worked diligently to upgrade our website, enabling us to communicate better with exhibitors, sponsors and the general public.

We’ve revamped the schedule, to accommodate our sale consignors and exhibitors — by changing a couple of events. Please note the Bull show is now on Friday, with the sale social and sale held back to back at the Livestock Events Center. Our semen, flushes and advertising auction will be held as part of the sale. Lastly, the female show will be on Saturday, giving the new owners of heifers purchased at the sale the opportunity to show them, with the silent auction and honoree presentation held to wrap up the event at the Nugget hotel and casino.

Thanks to the many participants who make “Hereford Reno” such a special event. It takes the work of our entire board and many others, to provide this venue for Hereford enthusiasts every year. Thanks to Buffy Goss and her crew for an outstanding job initiating and building the Junior Show into one of the best! Thanks to the AHA staff who help with the open show and all the activities associated with it from check-in to show programs, to helping through the show itself. Last but not least, thanks to the many generations of Hereford breeders who have made Hereford Reno one of their favorite weeks of the year!

Our board of directors’ purpose is to put on an event that our exhibitors, consignors and support personal feel they are a part of. We are dedicated to working with everyone to improve the show and sale. Any ideas, concerns or input is encouraged because without you we would not have this event. Please contact any of our board members for discussions.

Sincerely,Brian Gallagher

• Pedretti Ranches would like offer the pick of our spring calving heifers, bred to calve as 2-year-old, in March/April of 2019. (We only expose the group for 60 days, so we will calve in March or April.) We will confirm that she is pregnant, give all shots, worm, copper and selenium. His first calves are on the ground and exhibit all the promise and characteristics expected from this great young herd sire. ICC 66P 719T Bonissa 2201 has been the foundation of our Rocky Ridge Cattle donor program and produced our two top selling females. Bonissa 6356 ET was the high selling open heifer calf in the 2017 Shaw “The Ladies behind the Bull Business” sale to Larson’s Running L Ranch in Texas and Bonissa 6412 the high selling bred heifer in this year’s 2018 edition of the same sale going to Mohican West in Montana. Bonissa is very well balanced from her eye appeal to her performance and documentation to back it up, a leading daughter of the renowned Victor 719T.

• Here’s your chance to flush one of our lead off donors. 9018 was our pick in the inaugural Shaw Cattle Cow Sale. We bred her to 3-time National Champion GKB 88X Laramie B293 and 516C was the result. 9018 brought the generations of maternal strength and B293 brought the power and performance. 516C had a more than successful show career, being a many time class and division winner for Sara Harfst, but her real success happened when she went into production. Her first natural calf, sired by calving ease specialist Sensation 028X, went on to be named Oregon State Fair Champion Bull, and the 2017 Reno National Champion Bull. Her first embryo calves have hit the ground this fall and to say we are excited is an understatement. Not many 2-year-olds raise a national champion the first go around, and now she has the best set of embryo calves on the place. As many of you know we do not make a habit of offering up opportunities to flush the lead-off donors in our program… grab it while you can.

• Selling the right to flush 516C to the bull of buyer’s choice. We will guarantee six (6) embryos; anything over ten (10) embryos will be split between buyer and seller. 516C is in calf, will be ready to flush June 1, 2019.

• 6905 has been a tremendous female for us with extreme extension through her front end, a powerful hind leg and strong udder. After a very successful show career, her first calf won the Western Idaho Fair Open and Junior Shows. Her EPD profile is excellent and she has a pedigree stacked with donor cows. 27A is one of the best 10Y sons out there with tremendous rib shape, fleshing ability and again stacked with some of Ned and Jan Ward’s top donors in his pedigree. If you’re looking to add eye appeal and numbers at the same time, invest in this set of embryos. Selling 4 embryos with one (1) pregnancy guaranteed if implanted by a licensed embryologist.
