Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, our Music Lovers,I still remember the great stage fright, the emotions associated with the inauguration of the 2014_2015 artistic season in the new beautiful Philharmonic. Everything was unknown, mysterious and thus even more enchanting, intriguing. As Albert Einstein remarked:
‘The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.’
We moved uncertainly across the long white corridors, listened to the unusual acoustics of the concert halls, believing that our listeners would be travelling with us through various musical worlds. And these, along with the inauguration of activities in the new Philharmonic, opened up before us. As soon as music entered the white palace, we knew that it was a unique place, with its own musical history. A place which was created thanks to the bold dreams of the many exceptional people who love music.
Five years on, our Philharmonic invariably inspires, delights and is a place where imagination constantly gives us new ideas. This is a place where dreams come true, dreams of unique concerts and meetings. A place where we can stop thinking for a while and feel special because every visit or event is a unique configuration of artists, music lovers, sounds and beautiful emotions. I wish you always feel special about experiencing freedom, truth and beauty with us in the new 2019_2020 season.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
After an extremely successful anniversary season, we are somehow back to normal. I have said ‘somehow’ because our Philharmonic continues to surprise me and impress me. Forward-thinking and extremely innovative would be the right words to describe it, and I am very proud to be part of it.
Time goes by very fast. We are actually starting our fourth season together. We continue to grow. It has been a fantastic musical journey so far. As we have a lot of interesting programs and projects coming up, I cannot wait to see all of you again after a well-deserved holiday, both for our orchestra and our audience.
We continue to record the complete orchestral works by Karłowicz, and it is truly a pleasure to become more and more familiarized with this amazing composer and his music. I hope you like our programs, and I look forward to seeing you at the concerts.

B R I L L A N T E [brilliantly, effectively]
This series of concerts is distinguished by the openness and brilliance in approach of the music: across the genres of music this spectacular drawing explores the wealth and diversity of the world of music. The series includes well known pieces of music, as well as discovering sounds that in combination with the colours of the entire orchestra or of selected instruments and the energy of the outstanding performers, will appeal to a wide range of listeners.
E N E R G I C O [vigorously]
A series of concerts to feel an unbridled flow of musical energy. What is presented here is a combination of classics with popular art. This creates the chance of meeting extremely interesting personalities, phenomenal sounds and moving lyrics. Artists appearing in the series invite you to join a musical journey enriched with a refined literary layer.
E S P R E S S I V O [expressively]
These events will fill the Philharmonic space with what is truly expressive and unique. The series will present outstanding stars of Polish and international jazz scenes, and the listeners will encounter intense emotions expressed with lyrical subtlety.
G R A N D I O S O [splendidly, majestically]
Grand artistic events which will present great symphonic works to celebrate special moments in the artistic season – such as the opening night or the finale of the season. Here events referring to the history of the city are also included.
C O N C E R T S E R I E S
M I S T E R I O S O [mysteriously]
A series of chamber concerts whose programs and often intimate nature of the performances, at times involving only a few musicians, introduce a world of mysterious sonorities and musical dialogue. The events in the series are a great challenge for the performers: their true artistry is reflected in their sonic integrity, creative approach to musical narration and close personal contact with the listener.
R U B A T O
Meaning freedom in rhythmical discipline, typically in traditional music. It is also the name of a new series which focuses on artists combining folk content with innovative forms.
S O U N D L A B
Philharmonic laboratory of electronic music in Szczecin with lively communication between the musicians, the listener and the space. The unusual shape of the Szczecin Philharmonic will serve here as a form which will intersect the sound and the architectural shape, thus helping us realise that complementarity is featured in all areas of art. The series formula, which can be called an architectural sound sequence, will allow for the presentation of a wide variety of musical pieces.

Masecki is a pianist, composer and arranger. He was born in Warsaw in 1982 and is currently living in both Warsaw and Berlin. He spent his childhood in Colombia where his father uncovered the secrets of the piano for him. He was also a clarinettist. Later, in Poland, he attended the Fryderyk Chopin Music School in Warsaw and played in the Alchemist ensemble. He studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and after returning, became involved with the alternative musicians from Lado ABC. He has co-founded many formations which combine jazz improvisation with an avant-garde approach - Paristetirs, Telewizor, Papierosy, TAQ and the Trio Masecki / Rogiński / Moretti.Currently, he is considered one of the most creative and original musicians in Poland. He has an equally passionate affection for classical music as well as jazz and avant-garde, and has no aversion to pop. Not only is he the leader of the Profesjonalizm ensemble and the director of the first edition of the Warsaw Entertainment Orchestra, but also the leader of the Polonez project - a wind
instrument orchestra treating the tradition of polonaises in a perverse way. He feels equally at home performing Scott Joplin ragtime as playing Ludwig van Beethoven sonatas in muffling headphones. He records his own interpretations of Chopin and Bach works, and at the same time, with Jan Młynarski, he creates Jazz Band Młynarski-Masecki, reminiscent of the Polish orchestras of the interwar period. Marcin Masecki regularly performs, publishes, composes and engages in unconventional projects. The Marcin Masecki Jazz Trio, the artist’s latest group, includes Jerzy Rogiewicz on drums and Piotr Domagalski on double bass. They are all as thick as thieves. Jazz is in their blood. At the invitation of the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin, they will accompany - along with other musical guests - Marcin Masecki, who will appear in Szczecin with a series of concerts as the artist-in-residence of the Philharmonic during the 2019_2020 artistic season. You can expect them to be the best - a marriage of classics with avant-garde and unique experiences at the confluence of genres.

5th True Musicians Tournament5th-8th September 2019
As every year at the beginning of September, the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin will host performers and enthusiasts of traditional music and culture. The 5th Jubilee True Musicians Tournament will be taking place from September 5-8, 2019, during which the white Philharmonic Hall will be filled with a multicoloured kaleidoscope of traditional sounds.Performers from all over Poland will compete again - both as continuators of musical traditions from the various regions of the country, as well as artists creatively using traditional repertoire. A professional jury will assess the musicians who will perform in
four categories: soloist vocalists, soloist instrumentalists, singing groups and bands, as well as dance couples during the Dance Tournament. It will be possible to listen to and watch the winners of all the categories during the final concert in the Symphony Hall. The True Musicians Tournament also has a rich accompanying program, which includes an opening concert with the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, a theatrical performance entitled ‘Brudło z Wąchabna’, workshops, and a great dance party - the House of Dance. The slogan of the second edition of MUSIC.DESIGN.FORM Festival is audioluminescence. This trail will lead us to unexpected corners of the Philharmonic. You will be surprised by sounds and unusual visualizations presented in a completely new way.
Constant reflection on the form is behind the idea of creating the MUSIC.DESIGN.FORM Festival - a festival that combines various fields of art into one unique artistic program. The form is treated as a thematic thread, bonding the music, image, architecture, design and modern technology to show that not only the artistic message is important, but also the final effect. What leads to this i.e. construction, recording, or tools used, dressed in the right form, also becomes a work of art.The first edition of the MDF festival took place in September 2018 and focused on a modern and timeless approach to design. From exhibitions of legendary and contemporary furniture, or sound site-specific installations, industry meetings, workshops and concerts with the use of 3D video mapping generated in real time, to the premiere performance of the composition written using... electric cars, we had it all. During the five festival days, the building of the Philharmonic in Szczecin was visited by several thousand people!
During the second edition of MUSIC.DESIGN.FORM Festival, a mysterious audioluminescence will guide us. Sound and light will play the main role, which we will literally treat as an artistic material, and also metaphorically as the direction of our activities.
We have invited artists, activists and animators to deal with this issue. We can expect concerts by Polish and foreign stars, premiere performances prepared for the festival, and also exhibitions, workshops and educational meetings. Our invitation has been accepted already by Laura Mvula, Marcin Masecki, Kwadrofonik, A_GIM, Oskar Zięta, Filip Springer, to name but a few.Once again, everything that happens in these several September days will be a unique opportunity to experience art using the many senses. Guests will have an opportunity to see the Philharmonic in Szczecin from a completely different angle, sometimes unknown. Being led by sound and light they will arrive in unexpected corners of the building, and will be surprised by the unusual visualizations in the white Lobby. The facade of the Philharmonic will also dynamically shine again.
The MUSIC.DESIGN.FORM Festival 2019 consists of three days filled with artistic crossroads and unforgettable musical and visual impressions. The best artists from Poland and the world will be present. It will be sound and light that take everyone into a different dimension. On September 13-15 you simply must be at the Philharmonic in Szczecin!

T H E S O C I A L C A M P A I G N – ‘ H E A R I N G G O O D S O U N D S ’
Every day we are exposed to constant acoustic stimulation: the sounds of the city, car horns, the clatter of tram wheels, and the cacophony of school breaks (sometimes compared to the start of the jet!). Over one-third of Poles live with an excessive amount of noise, yet knowledge of this subject is very low.
Noise is usually ignored, we accept it, explaining it away with civilization’s considerations. We are used to it and we stop noticing it. However, it affects our health in a negative way - it primarily destroys the sensory cells in the inner ear, which do not have the ability to renew themselves. Slowly, our hearing deteriorates, which affects the overall quality of life.Noise also has a negative effect on the nervous system, manifesting as dizziness and headache, tinnitus, sleep disorders, increased blood pressure, and tiredness. Physical and intellectual activity, the ability to concentrate, analytical and synthetic reasoning are hindered. This is also the most common reason for psychomotor hyperactivity in our youngest. Hearing impaired children were coming for visits so quickly that specialists began to include hearing loss as a civilization diseases.
The campaign ‘Hearing Good Sounds’ - carried out by the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin, together with local and national partners since 2016 - includes actions on a micro
and macro scale, whose aims are to make audiences aware that our life does not have to have a very loud soundtrack. Through workshops, conferences, educational games, events in the urban space, and above all concerts, the campaign is to inspire taking on the fight against noise. For this we can use a lot of tools: from choosing the right headphones (never earbuds!), supporting the creation and strengthening of urban and school harmony zones (places to escape from the noise), to decisions at the management level that affect a comfortable acoustic environment in educational and cultural institutions. The goal is to protect your hearing and also our environment from the effects of excessive and persistent noise.
In the next edition of the campaign Hearing Good Sounds taking place during the artistic 2019_2020 season, we will be talking about this issue in an unusual way. We will be looking for the best school harmony zones. We will invite the young and old to participate in educational and artistic events that inspire reflection on the essence of hearing in an interesting way. We will initiate discussions and a situation of knowledge exchange between experts and practitioners. Again, we also focus on the urban space and the use of architecture to create noise-free spaces. As always, we also invite you to the Philharmonic in Szczecin for concerts that are full of harmony. They will have a soothing effect on your hearing and your entire nervous system. Hear good sounds with us!
