    HEPTOL KEB

    Character Sequestering agent

    Chemical character Phosphonate

    Appearance Clear, yellowish liquid

    pH-value of a10 % solution 2.5 - 3.0

    Specific weightat 20 C 1.14

Stabilities HEPTOL KEB is stable towards alkalis, acids and reducing agents inthe concentrations normally used in practice. HEPTOL KEB is stabletowards oxidizing agents except chemicals containing persulphate andchlorine.

The product is to a certain extent sensitive to frost; changes occurringat low temperatures disappear when warming and after thoroughstirring.

    Properties

HEPTOL KEB is a sequestering agent with very high binding properties towards hardening agents and heavymetals.

    At a pH-value of 10 1.0 g HEPTOL KEB binds

    71 mg Fe3+ (iron-III ions) or 98 mg Ca2+ (calcium-II ions) or 246 mg CaCO3

For softening water with 1 dH 0.074 g/l HEPTOL KEB must therefore be used.

    Application technique

    Diluting instruction

HEPTOL KEB is miscible with cold and warm water at every ratio.

    Application fields

HEPTOL KEB can be used as sequestering agent in the pretreatment and in the dyeing for continuous anddiscontinuous methods. In semi-continuous and continuous processes it is recommended to use HEPTOL KEB if there is a risk offiltration problems, e.g. on apparatuses and piece beams.

When being used in bleaching liquors, HEPTOL KEB is able to maintain silicate of soda colloidally in solutionduring the whole bleaching time. Thus, stabilizing effects are obtained which cannot be realized with silicate ofsoda only. At the same time the formation of insoluble alkaline earth silicates is avoided because of the highsequestering and dispersing capacity, so that there will not be any deposits on the fabric and on the machine.

When using HEPTOL KEB in dyeing liquors with metal containing dyestuffs, preliminary trials must be carriedout. This is necessary because HEPTOL KEB is a real chelate former; according to the type of dyestuff theproduct withdraws metal atoms from the dyestuff and thus there may be changes in shade.

    Application amounts

The application amounts depend on the content of hardening agents and on the heavy metal content. Normallyamounts of

    0.3 - 1.5 % o.f.w.

    are used.
