Dear Friends,

Greetings in the name of our Lord, Jesus!!There is no truth to the rumor that we have forgotten how

to write. With being home on furlough we were really busyand rushed. We do apologize for the length of time that haspassed since we last spoke.

We returned to Scotland on May 12th. The temperature inChicago when we left was about 88 degrees. When we landed inGlasgow at 10:00 a.m., the temperature was about 41 degrees.HOME SWEET HOME!! We had snow showers for the first eightdays that we were home, and it has rained most of the othereleven days.

We returned to a real touchy situation concerning ourhouse. The young woman who was house sitting for us was notgiven a "Notice to Quit", which is required by law when one'slease is up. Therefore she was legally entitled to remain inthe house for another six months, which would have left ushomeless. But once again God worked it out that she wouldfind a nice little cottage to rent that fit her needs, andshe moved in about a week ago. She is doing well, and wehave our house almost back to normal (define normal).

The dogs were over-joyed to have us back, as were thefolks at Forres Christian Church. The congregation remainedfairly stable while we were gone. We did lose seven of theyoung people that were coming, but we gained a young couplewho came from the London area. Their names are Murray andSamantha Gillies. They came to us on the recommendation of aRoyal Air Force couple that left us to be transferred toLondon. Murray is in the Air Force and is stationed atKinloss, which is four miles from Forres. They live inForres. We are certainly pleased to have Murray and Sam, and

would ask for your prayers for us and them as they serve withus. Pray also for the safe delivery of their first childwhich is due any day.

There are some exciting things coming up. While we wereon furlough) Good News Productions helped us to set up avideo library of doctrinally sound tapes. One of theproblems here is finding teaching materials that are worthteaching. We have for some time now been importing ourSunday School material from College Press. We are proud tohave these resources- to share with the folks here. I amtrying to set up a way to share these tapes with thedenominational churches in the area in hopes of making adifference in their outlook. Please pray for this endeavor.

We are also looking toward our Holiday Bible Club time.Once again it will be held over "Tattle Holiday" in October.October sounds a long way off, but it will be here before weknow it. Coming before that is our Christian Service Camp.Camp will be held the week of July 11th. We are looking forbetween nineteen and twenty five children from Forres andBuckle. Robert is Dean this year, and I will be teaching andbeing a dorm dad. The theme this year will be "Family". Ifthere are any of you who would be able and willing to helpsponsor some of these children, it would be very greatlyappreciated. The cost per child to feed and house them forthe seven days is fifty Pounds per child. That's about$80.00 per child in American money. The five children fromthe Forres Church that want to go are from families which donot have the funds to send them. If you can help out, pleasesend the funds to Mark Dace, marked for "Camp Fund" (*).

We are trying to sit down and evaluate our time in theStates, and to write thank-you notes. I wanted to wait untilwe returned home to send out personal thank-you*s. I do,however, want to thank everyone who kept us in their homes, fed us, and gave us funds to make our furlough possible. Aspecial thank-you to Brother Seth Wilson for the loan of avehicle for the time we were home; and to the First ChristianChurch, in Michigan City, Indiana, for the use of theirhospitality apartment while we were in the area. It wouldhave been a long walk without the Chinook, and a cold stayoutside. As close as I can figure, we drove almost 12,000miles and flew over 7,000 miles, not including the flight toand from Scotland. We also spoke about seventy five timesbetween Jeanne and I during furlough. We were very tired bythe time we got home. We are feeling better now, and gettingback in the swing of things.

Page 3: Henckel Jim Jeanne 1993 Scotland

We have had a major problem with our car since wereturned. The timing belt broke on Sunday night (May 30).When the belt broke it caused some damage to the valve train, bending five valves and breaking two valve lifters. What amess! The repair will be in the neighborhood of $500.00.Also, the lawn mower was destroyed and the washing machinegave up the ghost while we were gone, and both have had to bereplaced to the tune of $700.00. Please pray for us thatnothing else goes wrong for awhile. I know God wants ushere, but I think Satan is mad that we returned.

Please continue to pray for us and the work that is beingdone here. Pray for the members of Forres Christian Church, that they will catch a vision of telling others about Jesuson an every day basis. Again, thank all of you who werethere for us while we were on furlough. And also for thoseof you who are constant in your support of our work. Wecouldn't be here without you!

In His Glorious Love,

c/ TJim and Jeanne Henckel

24 August, 1993

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings in ttie name of our Lord, Jesus! It is hard to believe that we have been home only three months!

In some ways itseems that we were never gone. We have settledback into our house and routine.

Much has been going on sincewe retumed from furlough. In Julywe had our Christian service camp forthe children from Forres andBuckle churches. We had twelve in attendance, sixboys and sixgirls, along with eight staff. Robert and Idid all ofthe teaching, withthe Buckle folk doing crafts, music, recreation and cooking. Thetheme for this year's campwas "God's Family/Our Family".Everyone had a good time!

We are nowgetting our act together for our Holiday Bible Club, which will run from October 18 through the 22nd. God answersprayer in a mighty way! We were lacking people to serve In our Club, and we were even in doubt if we would have itat all thisyear, so wereally prayed for the Lord's guidance. Well, It should come as nosurprise that we received a phone call from Tina Keeter, one of ourintems from lastsummer, asking if she and a friend could come helpus for iwo months this fall. Isaid to her, "you've got to be kidding!I've been sitting here praying for someone to helpwith the HolidayBible Club!" Tina and her friend, Krista Curry, also from Joplin, willarrive on September 21st, and be with us for about two months.Praise the Lord!!

Page 6: Henckel Jim Jeanne 1993 Scotland

This past weekend, August 20th and 21st, we had our secondannual "Forres Christian Church Family Camp". We had eighteen inattendance, seven adults and eleven children, including one young

man from the Buckle Church. We played gomes, and had devotionsand prayer time around the campfire. Not to mention singing andeating (we even made smores). The weather treated us well, withonly about six minutes of rain. One of the games they play here iscalled "rounders". It is a cross between cricket and American

baseball. The best two batters in the game were the two grandmasin the church - Jeanne and Christine. They did have a slight mishapat second base, and we thought we had a broken wrist to deal with, but it was only sprained so Christine was alright.

Jeanne, however, is a mass of bruises from sliding into second.Talk about pride - trying to show up the youngsters, and actuallydoing it. It was good fun, and a wonderful day out for all of us.

I had the honor of performing a wedding on Friday afternoon,August 20, in the park in Forres. There were numerous remarksabout how different itwas compared to the ceremony that is done inthe Church of Scotland, but also how nice it was. There were aboutone hundred people in attendance, with another thirty or so watchingfrom the bridge next to the park. We were Invited to the reception;and when we arrived, I was told that I was to make my speech justbefore the bride's father made his. What a surprise!

We regret to announce that our co-worker, Robert Caudle, will bereturning to the United States permanently at the end of October. Hehas been on the field here for about seven years, and feels that hehas done all that he can here. We wish him all the best at whateverhe does back in the States, and we will really miss him here.Because of this development, we are looking for a young, marriedman to work with us here as a youth minister. We feel that the futureto evangelism here is in the youth. Jeanne and I would continue towork with the adults and general evangelism. We would also like to

Page 7: Henckel Jim Jeanne 1993 Scotland

explore the possibility of starting another work in Elgin, about twelvemiles from Forres.

Thanks to all the help we received from you folks back in theStates, we were able to purchase a Canon PC11 copier. The pricefor the copier was 1021.08 Pounds (about $1500.00). We didn'trealize how much we use a copier until we purchased this one. Thanks to all of you who gave towards this project.

We miss all of you folks back in the States, but itsure is good tobe back home. We wishthat each and every one ofyou could comevisit with us to see not only the work, but the beauty of this place. We have had some visitors at Henckel manor since we lost wrote.Marvin Brubakerwas with us inJuly for a few days. Marvin and hiswife Charleen minister in Wisbech, England. Also in July, Ron andShiela Kelley from Sarosoto, Florida, were with us for a few days.Matthew Harris, a student from Ozark Christian College, spent mostof a week with us. Matt was inteming with Ross and Cheryl Wissmanin Sawbridgeworth, England, and came to see how we do thingsnorth of the border. We wish to extend our gratitude to those whovisited and encouraged us. We also had the opportunity to visit inInverness with Lynn and Barbara Gardner from Ozark ChristianCollege, and the folks that were with their tour. It was a wonderfulevening.

Thank youall for your love and concem for us - foryour prayersand financial support. We could not survive without you.

In His Wonderful Love,

Jim and Jeanne Henckel

Dear Supporters and Friends,

Its hard to believe that it is December already! Just a few days untilChristmas! The time is passing so quickly! I have noteven mailed my Eastercards yet and Christmas is around the comer! Do Isound excited? I hope sobecause some delightful thingsare happening here.

This may not sound like much, butwe received a phone call from one ofthelocal nursing homes in November asking us to comeand sing forone of the oldfolks birthday. You may say, "big deal". For us itis a .big deal because it is the firsttime that anybody has called and asked us to do anything. We have alwayscalledthe nursing homes to ask if we couldcome sing for Christmasor to visit. Theyhave never called us. Notonlywere we invited to sing on the 27th of November, but they asked If we were coming again thisyearfor Christmas. We are finallybeing recognized. Praise the Lord!!

Holiday Bible Clubis overfor anotheryear. Wewere blessed byfairweather, and a reasonable turn out. We had 20 first-time children, and averaged

children each day of the week. We were really pleased. So far we have pickedup one new child for Sunday School, butwe have not had the opportunity to call onall the children that attended. We also are doing some different things this year.

Page 10: Henckel Jim Jeanne 1993 Scotland

We are going to send out postcards every week inviting the children to SundaySchool, and the parents to the Sunday Service. This will be an added expense forus, but we teel that the Lord will provide if He wonts us to continue. Please prayfor this program, that we will be able to reach out in a differentway than what wehave before.

Our Holiday Bible Club was a success tor one other reason. We werehelped by Sally Glen, who did all the crafts. Sally is a non-Christian, and mother ofthe three children we baptized at the close of Holiday Bible Club last year. Wehave gone through the "Ambassador's Peace Treaty" with Saiiy, but she has notyet mode a committment to follow Jesus. However, she has become active in theactivities of the church. Please pray for Solly and her husband, Harold, that wemay lead them to Christ.

Some of the other things which we hove been thinking about tor ministryinclude;

1. A seminar on parenting.2. A seminar on the Holy Spirit.3. A "Dare to be a Daniel" after-school club.

4. A morning Bible study.

Please pray for these endeavors. Also pray that we can encourage a youngcouple to come work with us, mainly in the area of youth. Our co-worker, RobertCaudle, left over a month ago, and we feel the loss very much.

I received a phone coll from our daughter, Pam, shortly after the lastnewsletter was sent out. She was not amused that we forgot to announce the birthof our first grandson, Allen Michael Hunter, bom on July 3,1993. I don't know howwe managed to miss getting that news out to you, but we did. Anyway, Pam, wedidn't forget this time.

Since this is our last newsletter until the new year, we want to take this timeto wish you all a MERRY CHRISTMAS, and a HAPPY NEW YEAR. May Godrichly bless you in the coming year as we strive to serve Him to the glory of theFather. And thank you so much for all the prayers and financial support that you

Page 11: Henckel Jim Jeanne 1993 Scotland

all hove given us through the year. You ore all very special to Jeanne and I, andwe wish you the very best for the holidays.

In His Love,

Jim & Jeanne Henckel
