What might be a good topic for you to research that is related to
My Forbidden Face reading?
• Afghanistan, women's rights, Islam, Islamic culture, American foreign policy in Afghanistan, Taliban, Pennies for Peace, etc.
Here is an idea for a topic?
• Pennies for Peace, a program of the 501(c)3 non-profit organization, Central Asia Institute, was founded by Greg Mortenson. Greg is the co-founder and executive director of Central Asia Institute, and co-author of the #1 NY Times Best-seller, Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace…One School At A Time.
So what topic do I think would be great for you to do?
• I think Pennies for Peace will be a great topic for you to research.
• It fits the criteria. It relates to “My Forbidden Face” which is one of the requirements.
• It will be easy to find resources.• It also is a topic that relates to high school
since high school students can get involved.
Slide 1
• So on Slide 1• You need to put your name• The date• 9.4.2• The topic of your I-search –
Pennies For PeaceAnd include a graphic related to this
What do I know aboutPennies for Peace?
• This is the information that you will put on
Slide 2• I know that this is a program to help areas in
need.• I know that schools can join.
Questions to ResearchThis is the info for Slide 3
• Step 2: Generate Questions• The next thing you need to do is make a list of questions you
have about your topic--questions you want badly, even desperately, to have answered.
THIS LIST OF QUESTIONS WILL GO IN YOUR POWERPOINT PRESENTATION, SO DON'T LOSE THEM!
• These will be the things that you research and answer in your PowerPoint.
What would l like to know about Pennies for Peace
• How did this organization and initiative get started?• What countries and areas does this Pennies for
Peace serve?• How does this program help others? In other words
how does it offer help and assistance?• How does someone here in America get started
helping with this organization?• How does Pennies for Peace help the students here
in America?
How to find your sources?• start with Google and find AT LEAST THREE reliable sources of information on
your topic where you can collect the information you need to answer your questions.
*A good rule for making sure your sources are reliable is to check the ending of the source...
.edu
.gov
.org
...are USUALLY very safe, reliable sources of information.• You will need this for your bibliography slide on your powerpoint presentation.
Here are some possible sources to use to find the answers to your questions:
• http://www.penniesforpeace.org/• http://www.swvatoday.com/news/article/pen
nies_for_peace/8626/• http://www.threecupsoftea.com/how-to-help
/pennies-for-peace/
• These are three good sites to use. Feel free to use these sources if you like this topic.
Now you need to create a slide for each of your 3 sources.
• These 3 slides will be slides 4. 5. and 6.• At the top of the slide you should put the name
of the website.• Then list a question that you can answer from
that site.• And then answer the question.• Repeat questions and answers for all that relate
to this source.• Include a related graphic.
So what do you look for?
• You answer the questions that you wrote earlier in this process.
• KEEP TRACK OF WHERE YOU FIND YOUR INFORMATION. That means you need to know which website gave you what information.
Slide 7- Reflect on Your New Knowledge
• Here is where you reflect upon the entire research experience- not only what you got out of it, not only what you've learned- but HOW this search has changed your life, in other words what you got out of this experience3.
For your PowerPoint presentation, you will only BRIEFLY elaborate on your search experience.
Slide 8 of Your Project
• Here you will explain how Pennies for Peace relates to “My Forbidden Face.”
Slide 9 of Your PowerPoint
• Please list all of your web sites.• And then you are done with the project.• Save it and then submit it as 9.4.2.
So 9.4.2 in review• Find a topic that relates to My Forbidden Face• What do you know about it?• What do you want to know about it?• Find 3 sources that will answer your questions.• Make slides that answer your questions.• Reflect on the research process and how you are changed by it.• Explain the connection between Pennies for Peace and My
Forbidden Face• Make a slide that lists all 3 sources.• Sumbit it.
So Good Luck
• Look for a topic that you would like to know more about - Something that interests you.
• Write what you know about the topic and what you would like to know about it.
• Find at least 3 sources that can answer your questions.
• Make a slide for each source. And on that slide answer the questions that are answered in that source.
• Feel free to use Pennies For Peace as your topic!
