“G reece has one of the world’s largest shipping sectors, approaching 20 per cent of the global fl eet and close to half of the tonnage

carried by European vessels. Moreover, at recent years, Greek companies specialized in manufacturing and selling marine equipment, have been of-fering quality products and services to the shipping industry.

It is also well known that the Marine Equipment industry supports the whole marine value chain and stakeholders: from the port infrastructure and operation to the ship/shore interface, shipbuilding and ship repair, through to ship operation and through life support. The marine equipment industry contributes up to 70% of the value of a ship.

Under a strong competitive environment, Greek companies that manu-facture and export marine equipment of high technological added value have decided to join their forces. In order to achieve their planning for a powerful opening and potential exporting to shipyards, they moved on to form the “Hellenic Marine Equipment Manufacturers and Exporters” cluster, HEMEXPO.

HEMEXPO involves the larger marine equipment companies in Greece and thereby strengthens the links between the industry’s leading compa-nies through sharing of market intelligence, providing a vehicle for greater cooperation with ship-owners and shipyards.

HEMEXPO member-companies derive their competitiveness through designing and producing innovative and reliable high quality products supplied for the building, conversion, maintenance of ships (seagoing and inland) and maritime structures. This includes technical services in the fi eld of engineering, installation and commissioning, and ship maintenance (in-cluding repair), with optimum after sales customer support.

We strongly believe that HEMEXPO has the effi cacy to become a world leading force in the Marine Equipment industry, being a reliable and consist-ent partner for ship-owners and shipyards, all over the world.”

T he Hellenic Marine Equipment Manufacturers & Exporters Association, HEMEXPO, is an initiative by Greek Manufacturers of Marine Equipment.

The aim of HEMEXPO is both the promotion of the marine equipment that is manufactured in Greece by Greek innovative companies, and the extro-version of the Greek Manufacturers of Marine Equipment to the worldwide market of the shipbuilding industry.

Greek companies, specialized in developing and manufacturing state-of-the-art marine equipment, all investing in innovation and aiming at extrover-sion, decided to join forces. In order to achieve their planning for a powerful opening and potential exporting to shipyards, they moved on to form this Cluster. According to the Cluster founders, perspectives for this specifi c sec-tor are huge, whilst predictions lead to a tremendously fast progress to a global prestige Cluster.

HEMEXPO member-companies operate production plants of high tech-nology in Greece, and they employ Greek engineers and scientifi c experts. They manufacture innovative, certificated by International Classes and awarded products, implementing in-house R&D, in cooperation with Greek and international universities and research facilities. They have also been awarded prizes by the Academy of Athens, the founder of Microsoft Bill

Gates, Lloyds List Awards, Seatrade, the Hellenic Federation of Industries and they have been patented by Greek and International Organizations.

HEMEXPO is aiming to a healthy promotion between its member compa-nies, targeting for fi nancial scale achievement and for member companies’ fi nancial numbers increase, in order to secure long-term competiveness and feasibility.

The strategic plan of HEMEXPO initially refers to member companies’ projection and promotion in national and international level. Member com-panies will also mutually organize training programs, whilst their commercial and R&D cooperation with each other will be strengthened. According to the same strategic planning, cooperation will also be strengthened via their mutual participation in national and European projects and infrastructure manufacturing, such as building facilities and common equipment.
