The needs of poor families in the United States are great: 45% of children live in low-income families who have trouble securing even the most basic necessities for daily life. Even worse, 22% of all children in the United States live in families with incomes

below the federal poverty level—$23,550 a year for a family of four. But throughout 2015, K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers and the fashion, home and children’s industries have helped these families and other people affected by disasters, here in the United States and around the world.

Thanks to the generosity of the fashion, home and children’s industries, 2015 was a year of great impact for K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers and the communities we support. In addition to helping foster hope and dignity among people in need, we also took significant steps to plan our future and grow a stronger organization.

A strong asset in moving us forward in 2015 has been our President and CEO Lisa Gurwitch, who assumed her position in January 2015. Lisa brings extensive nonprofit experience to the organization and, together with our board of directors, is implementing a strong plan for our future. Throughout her first year with K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers she has visited more than 20 different community nonprofit partners. Under her leadership in 2015 we made great progress towards meeting our goals:

• We finished integrating our two former organizations and developed roadmapsfor a successful 2016.

• More than 400 companies donated over $135 million of useful product that was distributed to nearly 600 community-based nonprofit partners. Learn more about donating product here.

• We successfully raised revenues of $3.1 million and finished the year with abalanced budget. Learn more about cash donations here.

• Working with our donors and community partners we were able to share thestory of how we help people with donations of new merchandise. Our messagewas carried through significant coverage in print, broadcast and digital media.

Click here to listen to an interview with Lisa Gurwitch about how our organization wasformed, and how we overcome challenges every day to help people in need.

In addition to the important achievements listed on page 1, K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers also helped many, many people affected by natural disasters and the challenge of daily poverty throughout 2015. The following examples show how we use new merchandise to help people in need.

Funded by sales of the BOBS from Skechers line of footwear, the Skechers shoe company manufactures specially-made kids’ shoes and donates them to K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers for distribution. In 2015 we distributed nearly 1.8 million pairs of children’s shoes. Working with Skechers’ community retail partners, we held 15 distribution events where children decorated their new shoes. Watch a distribution video here.

K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers partnered with Charming Charlie, the nationwide retailer of women’s accessories, who donated $3.8 million worth of beautiful merchandise for women in need. The donations from 300 stores were kept locally in the communities they serve and distributed through 170 local nonprofits supporting women’s empowerment.

In 2015, retailer Men’s Wearhouse provided over $6  million of suits, shirts, ties and dress shoes to K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers. One local nonprofit benefiting from the donation is H.E.R.O.E.S. Care, which helps active and veteran armed service members and their families. One note from a veteran read: “Thank you so much for doing this. It is great to see organizations helping veterans like myself to find employment with suits!”Watch a short video about our work with H.E.R.O.E.S.Care here.

To make donating excess product as simple as possible, K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers matches local nonprofits with national chain store locations in their communities. In 2015, these programs collected a total of $21.7  million in merchandise. The community partners pick up donations 4–6 times a year from nearly 3,200 local Carter’s, Gymboree, Osh Kosh B’gosh and Toys “R” Us/Babies “R” Us stores.Click here to learn how these donations allow the local nonprofits to help people in need.

On April 25, 2015 a 7.8 magnitude earthquake shattered the lives of the people of Nepal. The earthquake killed over 8,000 people and injured more than 21,000. We called upon the industry to provide help and worked with our international partners to deliver much needed supplies to the survivors trying to rebuild their lives. Thanks to Aden+Anais, BOBS from Skechers, Eddie Bauer, Gerber Childrenswear and Mamiye Brothers.Read more about our response to Nepal here.

Books can do more than provide children with knowledge and adventure. Books also give them hope and help build their dreams. Scholastic Book Fairs donated over 320,000 books worth $1.2 million to K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers, and we distributed them to children who have faced poverty and tragedy in Florida, Georgia Michigan and Tennessee.

Our annual Warm Coats & Warm Hearts Drive with Burlington Stores and Good Morning America generated $3.7 million in coat donations for charities across the country; 300 local nonprofits were paired to pick up coat donations at 525 Burlington Stores throughout the 11-week program, collecting over 158,000 coats in communities nationwide. Watch the Good Morning America coverage here.

K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers helped put shoes on children’s feet thanks to the support of Santander Bank. As an incentive for shareholders to use web-based proxy voting, Santander Shareholder Relations donated $1 for every vote that was cast online. The bank’s ultimate donation of $25,000 covered the domestic distribution of 250,000 pairs of children’s shoes, donated by Skechers. The program efficiently leveraged product and cash donations to help children across the U.S. in 2015.

Many families raising small children face challenges obtaining safe and durable juvenile products, such as cribs, high chairs and other items. Our donor Baby Trend helped ease the burden by providing over 9,000 strollers and car seats worth $1 million to help parents. This donation helped thousands of parents keep their children safe.

“This is about giving more than a new couch, clothes or even a present under the tree, this is about giving hope, and I couldn’t be more proud.”

~ Columbia, SC Mayor Steve Benjamin

To help families affected by the historic South Carolina floods K.I.D.S/Fashion Delivers collected $1.9 million of product. Donations included new bedding, toys, furniture and clothing from familiar brands Aeropostale, CHF Industries, Franco Manufacturing, Gap, Gerber Childrenswear, IKEA, Kimlor Mills, Lady Antebellum’s Heartland home goods, Melissa & Doug, Toys “R” Us, and much more.

Watch the WACH FOX57 coverage here.Click here read about the “Bring It Home” campaign.Watch a video of our flood response here.

The Toy Industry Foundation is the charitable arm of the trade group, the Toy Industry Association, and K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers has partnered with the foundation for years to bring the joy of play to children in need. Through collections of product at trade shows and donations from their member companies, the Toy Industry Foundation provided us with over $9 million of toys and games to help children nationwide.

Over 700 guests came together on November 4, 2015 at the American Museum of Natural History in NYC, helping us raise $1.8 million at our Annual Gala. We honored three industry leaders: Stuart M. Brister of Wells Fargo Capital Finance, Dow Famulak of Global Brands Group, and Shikshya Foundation Nepal with its Co-Founder Prabal Gurung, the renowned fashion designer. It was a wonderful celebration of our industries and the work we do to alleviate poverty and provide disaster relief.Read the WWD story here.

Our 2015 Women of Inspiration Luncheon generated over $350,000 to support our mission of providing useful, new merchandise to people in need. The luncheon celebrated two honorees: Laura Pomerantz from the real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield, and Cindy Levitt from the retailer Hot Topic. The crowd of 350 heard a first-person account from Christina Atkins, a client of our nonprofit partner Bottomless Closet. The new suit she received inspired her job search. The luncheon was hosted by two-time Tony Award winning actress and singer, Christine Ebersole, who also gave a special performance of the song “New Moon.”Read the WWD story here.
