DIY (Do It Yourself) Home Improvement / Repair
A 4-H Project

Safety Very Important!
• In Note to Adults, safety discussed in a general overview of the project to include:
• Hand tool and steam iron use
• Plumbing
• Painting
• Internet usage
• Throughout the pages and tasks safety is reiterated
Project Design!
• There is a minimum of four tasks per 4-H age group.
• Junior & Senior members can do the tasks for the age group below them.
• Novice members should do all Novice = 4 tasks
• Junior members should do all Novice & Junior tasks = 8 tasks
• Senior members should do all Novice, Junior, & Seniors tasks = 12 tasks
Tools!
• A list of suggested tools all homes should have
• All tools required to accomplish the tasks in project are listed and photographed
• Additional items and possible repair kits are mentioned
• Photos of the additional items are included
The House!
• The project is divided into 4 basic rooms of the house• Living Room
• Kitchen
• Bathroom
• Bed Room
• For each room there are tasked assigned to each 4-H age group
The Living Room!
• Novice: Fill It Up - Have some small holes in the walls?
• Junior: Shut The Door - Front Door dragging or hard to close?
• Senior: Hang It Up - Have a picture or curtain rod you need to hang?
The Kitchen!
• Novice: Line It Up - Cabinet doors not aligned or dragging?
• Junior: Fix The Slide - Have a drawer that won't open properly?
• Senior: Unclog It - Sink is slow or will not drain?
The Bathroom!
• Novice: Add Some Air - Have a slow running faucet?
• Junior: Drip, Drip - Have a faucet that is dripping?
• Senior: Running Toilet - Need to catch that running toilet?
The Bed Room!
• Novice: Fluff It Up - Have dents in the carpet after moving furniture?
• Junior: Add Some Color - Are the walls dirty or drab?
• Senior: Put It Back On Track - Is that pesky closet door off the track?
Additional Activities!
• There are additional activities throughout the project:
• Find out how to fix stripped screw holes
• How certain tools work
• Visit library to look at DIY books
• Why certain tools or tasks are requested
• Also, page 51 contains additional activities for Junior & Senior members to do
