Sister Barbara, Served American Red CrossSister Mary of the Assumption, 96

Irene Kollar, DRE at Scarsdale ParishSister Patricia, Principal in Philippines

Sister Barbara Connolly, G.N.S.H., who served with the American Red Cross in Manhattan for nine years, died April 1 in White Plains. She was 79.

Sister Barbara was at the American Red Cross as director of the family respite center, 1987-1994, and project coordinator for the emergency family shelter, 1985-1987. She also served in Queens and Brooklyn.

Born in Queens, she entered the

Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart in 1957 and made final vows in 1963. She earned a master’s degree from Ford-ham University.

Her sister, Patricia Connolly, G.N.S.H., survives her.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated April 6 in the Redeemer Sisters’ Cha-pel, Huntingdon Valley, Pa. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Ben-salem, Pa.

Sister Mary of the Assumption Don-nelly, O.S.S., who served for 71 years with the Religious of the Blessed Sac-rament and of Our Lady for 71 years, died Feb. 20 at Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry. She was 96.

She prayed daily in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, at 4 a.m. and again at 4 p.m., in Blessed Sacrament Mon-astery in Scarsdale. She helped by

baking altar breads, cooking, sewing and assisting with the sick.

Born in Buffalo, she entered the Re-ligious of the Blessed Sacrament and of Our Lady in 1948 and professed fi-nal vows in 1953.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 25 at Sacred Heart Church, Yonkers. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cem-etery, Hawthorne.

Irene Kollar, director of religious education and pastoral associate at Our Lady of Fatima in Scarsdale for 21 years, died March 14. She was 74.

Ms. Kollar served at Our Lady of Fati-ma, 1994-2015, where she was a pioneer in creating programs for children on the autism spectrum. She and the people of the parish were awarded the March 1999 Religious Education Excellence Award from the National Association of Parish Catechetical Directors. The parish was cited for a close relationship between the parish school and religious educa-

tion program, an emphasis on children learning by doing and a program for children with special needs.

A registered nurse, Ms. Kollar earli-er served in parish ministry for many years at Sacred Heart, Dobbs Ferry.

Her four children, Adam, Suk Hee, Glenn and Sheila, and nine grandchil-dren survive her. Her husband, Dea-con John “Jack” Kollar, died last year.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated March 18 at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson.

Sister Patricia Ann Maher, M.M., who was a principal and a teacher in the Phil-ippines, died March 27 at Maryknoll Sis-ters Center in Ossining. She was 92.

Sister Patricia served as an elemen-tary school teacher and later as an el-ementary and high school principal in the Philippines, from 1954 to 1968. She tutored college students in conversa-tional English in Bolivia, 1998-2002, and Bangladesh, 1993-1997, and was involved in young adult ministry and pastoral work in Central America (El Salvador, Nicaragua and Panama), 1974-1979.

She did volunteer work at a prison and a hospital in Virginia before her retirement in 2008.

Born in Harrisburg, she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1947 and made fi-nal vows in 1953. She held a bachelor’s degree in education from Maryknoll Teachers College. She was formerly known as Sister M. Joseph Aileen.

A Funeral Mass was offered April 2 at Annunciation Chapel at Maryknoll Sisters Center. Burial was in the sis-ters’ cemetery.
