It has been the mission of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless’ Furniture Bank for the past twenty years to work to ensure that families and individuals that are extremely low-income and for others making the transition from homeless into permanent housing have a cost free option to furnish their new apartments. It is the belief of the agency that by offering assistance with the most basic of essentials that make up the fabric of a home, we are ensuring that families and individuals will have a solid foundation as they rebuild their homes and their lives.

The Furniture Bank works very similarly to the food bank concept. It solicits donations of beds, couches, chairs, tables, and other household essentials; picks them up at no charge to the donor; and distributes them free of cost to those in need. The Coalition’s Furniture Bank is one of the largest programs of its kind in the nation and in Massachusetts. The program operates from its 40,000 square foot warehouse on the North Shore. During the year, on average over $3.5 million dollars worth of furniture and household goods are collected and distributed to thousands of households making the transition out of homelessness.

How can I donate?Items Accepted by the Furniture Bank:

You are ready to sell your home... but what do you do with your furniture that you can no longer use?Your REALTOR® gives you this brochure and asks….

The Furniture Bank helps to furnish the future for thousands of formerly homeless individuals and families making their transition from homelessness to a home of their own without any cost. You can give new life to old furniture by donating it to the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. The Coalition can work with you to remove any usable furniture. All donations are fully tax-deductible.

A bed, a table, a chair, a sofa – most of us would not think that

these material elements could change a family’s life. But all of us would agree

that these elements are what make a house a home. Yet, for thousands of

extremely low-income households, these elements are completely unaffordable.

Will you help us help you by helping others?
