Help shape the future of Dunedin transport

Ideas to improve walking and parking

Ideas to improve cycling and public transport

Ideas to improve the road network

Connecting Dunedin Connecting Dunedin is a partnership of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, Dunedin City Council and Otago Regional Council. The partners are working on the Shaping Future Dunedin Transport project to develop what the future of central city transport could look like in Dunedin.

We would like your input on ideas developed so far.

Ideas developed so farOne of our goals is to make it easier and safer for everyone to get around the central city on foot. This is particularly important around the new hospital building and between popular destinations such as the University, Railway Station, Queens Gardens and the Warehouse Precinct.

We’re also thinking about how to improve public transport choice and the cycle network, aiming to get more people moving around by bike and bus.

Ideas for how we could do this include simplifying the bus routes and filling gaps in the existing cycleway network to connect popular destinations.

Other ideas include possible changes to the current one way system, including whether it could be two way. We’re also thinking about improving Wharf Street and Thomas Burns Street so that they can handle more traffic, providing an alternative route bypassing the city centre.
