Help a child succeed!Imagine if hundreds of people in Ottawa bought tickets for a fancy $40-per-plate fundraising dinner, but the event never happened . . . Imagine instead, if all of those people stayed home and sent their money directly to support OCISO’s Multicultural Liaison Offi cer (MLO) Program in Ottawa schools – so that immigrant and refugee children and youth learn English, French, math, computers and leadership and recreational skills during the summer. The MLO Program plays a vital role in meeting the settlement and integration needs of immigrant and refugee children and their families in Ottawa schools.

This is a testimony of a student who attended the MLO summer program:“My family and I left Haiti because life was very diffi cult for us. In the summer of 2006, I took part in OCISO’s MLO summer program for immigrant youth. I felt very welcome and met new friends – we were like a family. With the help of the program counselor, teachers and students, I was able to improve my English. I loved learning and playing the different sports. I learned a lot about computers, including internet safety. Today, I am more careful and I know how to protect myself when using the internet. I wish I can join again next year.”
