Hello Members of the Friends of the Rideau Lakes Public Library, Happy 2016 to everyone! We thought that it was time to bring you up to date with our plans. We are pleased to report that our AGM in October was a success. Two of our founding Executive members stepped down at this meeting – Joan Delaney and Carol Drake. They were both instrumental in getting us off to a very good start so a big thank you to both of them. In their stead, two new members have volunteered to be on our Executive team – Lorie Truemner and Carolyn Bresee. We all look forward to working with them. The Friends contribution in 2015 was given to the library to support the “Words on Wheels” program developed by Vicki Stevenson, Children's Librarian, as an extension of the library's previous Box of Books program. She was able to purchase 10 small, rolling totes (hence the Words on Wheels label) and fill them with theme-based books, videos, music, puzzles and puppets to delight toddlers primarily ages 2-5. Parents and caregivers may borrow any of these totes from one of the five library branches. In 2016 we will donate $1000 from our fundraising efforts to the library in support of the “Reading Rocks“ program. This program is a summer remedial reading help program offered to young children in the Township and coordinated by the Children's librarian. Here is a summary of our planned events for 2016: 1. Dewey Divas Presentation - Wednesday 11 May 2016 at the South Elmsley Municipal Complex 2. Maggie Wheeler author of “The Lost Villages” – mid-July at The Cove 3. Four Local Authors Event In Celebration of Canada's 150th Anniversary – September, Chaffey’s Lock 4. Jazz Night at The Cove – mid-November There are Friends bookmarks at your local library branch to distribute to friends and neighbours. For more information about the Friends organization or if you have any ideas for events or if you would like to volunteer with any fundraising activity, please email us at [email protected] . Hello Members of the Friends of the Rideau Lakes Public Library,

Happy 2016 to everyone! We thought that it was time to bring you up to date with our plans. We are pleased

to report that our AGM in October was a success. Two of our founding Executive members stepped down at

this meeting – Joan Delaney and Carol Drake. They were both instrumental in getting us off to a very good

start so a big thank you to both of them. In their stead, two new members have volunteered to be on our

Executive team – Lorie Truemner and Carolyn Bresee. We all look forward to working with them.

The Friends contribution in 2015 was given to the library to support the “Words on

Wheels” program developed by Vicki Stevenson, Children's Librarian, as an extension of

the library's previous Box of Books program. She was able to purchase 10 small, rolling

totes (hence the Words on Wheels label) and fill them with theme-based books, videos,

music, puzzles and puppets to delight toddlers primarily ages 2-5. Parents and

caregivers may borrow any of these totes from one of the five library branches.

In 2016 we will donate $1000 from our fundraising efforts to the library in support of the “Reading Rocks“

program. This program is a summer remedial reading help program offered to young children in the Township

and coordinated by the Children's librarian.

Here is a summary of our planned events for 2016:

1. Dewey Divas Presentation - Wednesday 11 May 2016 at the South Elmsley Municipal Complex

2. Maggie Wheeler author of “The Lost Villages” – mid-July at The Cove

3. Four Local Authors Event In Celebration of Canada's 150th Anniversary – September,

Chaffey’s Lock

4. Jazz Night at The Cove – mid-November

There are Friends bookmarks at your local library branch to distribute to friends and neighbours. For more

information about the Friends organization or if you have any ideas for events or if you would like to volunteer

with any fundraising activity, please email us at [email protected].
