C o m p o s e r i n r e s i d e n C e K i l e S m i t h Praised for its emotional power, direct appeal, and strong voice, the music of Composer Kile Smith has been hailed by critics as “spectacular” and “ecstatically beautiful.” The HSO performs two new works by Kile Smith to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Helena Symphony.

i n t e r n at i o n a l ly r e n o w n e d G u e S t A r t i S t S In addition to Concertmaster Stephen Cepeda performing Brahms’s Violin Concerto, the Season includes the return of popular artists Pianist Joel Fan and Cellist Ovidiu Marinescu, along with over a dozen noted vocal soloists.

B a C H ’ s S t. M a t t h e w Pa S S i o n – r i t u A l i z e d A n d r i v e t i n G Originally premiered on Good Friday in 1727, Bach’s setting of the Gospel of St. Matthew features solo voices, children’s choir, double choir,

and a double orchestra. Never before performed in Montana, six renowned soloists join the Helena Symphony Orchestra & Chorale to bring to life this passion oratorio a week before Easter. Stylized and distilled acting gestures and symbolic lighting add value, understanding, and enjoyment of this Biblical story that contains at its epicenter a very moving human story of grief and redemption.

B e e t H o V e n ’ s N I N T H Hear the epic, timeless message of brotherhood when Beethoven’s immortal exhilarating “Ode to Joy” bursts with brooding power and kinetic energy as the Season culminates with a 60th Anniversary Celebration.

F r e e e d u c At i o n c o n c e r t S Four exciting Symphony Kids programs return for all ages along with the annual Youth Concert for fourth and fifth graders. A great way to bring music to children’s lives!
